The best thing here is, when you learn Croatian, you have already learned Bosnian and Serbian.

***** I told you Serbo-Croatian is the long Yugoslavia and now no more. Get it? And as the same Slovak-Czech long. Look, in serbian its (Januar,Februar,Mart,April,Maj,Juni,Juli,Avgust,Septembar,Oktobar,Novembar i Decembar). And in Croatian its (Siječanj,Veljača,Ožujak,Travanj,Svibanj,Lipanj,Srpanj,Kolovoz,Rujan,Listopad,Studeni i Prosinac) Now you see that is not the same Croatian and Serbian language. Do you understand?

***** Hi, could you help me translate this please? I have a series that I'm watching but there's this one episode with only Croatian subs. Ostaæeš sa mnom noæas? Umoran sam, Hurrem. Hoæu da spavam, lahku noæ! Sultano, jeste li dobro? - Nisam dobro, Nilufer. Uopšte nisam dobro. Nešto se desilo? Isabella... Koliko æe još ostati ovde? Ne znam! Zašto pitate? Nije mi se dopalo njeno ponašanje veèeras. Zašto je tako bliska sa vama? Dopada mi se kada ste ljubomorni. Ali ne shvatam razlog za vašu brigu. Ili sumnjate u moju ljubav prema vama? Ništa tako! Vjerujem vam sve... - Pomolite?! Tražim da odem u crkvu, da se ispovijedim.

Hey, that is great! Just to inform you, Croatia was not a region but a republic in Yugoslav federation and was a sovereing kingdom 700 years ago. Croatian Kingdom had big role in the defence of European territory from the invasion of the Ottoman Empire and was considered the Bulwark of Christianity.

@@sarban1653 I've been to both countries and Serbia is not even nearly close by economic standard, tourist sites or in that matter by cultural values to Croatia. People are crude and rude and most of places where I have been are filthy and overrated. I'm not trying to offend your country but it's the way I experienced it.. P.S. I googled it and found out that you were like half of century under Ottoman rule and expelled them recently and Croatia wasn't, so maybe that affected economic and cultural aspect of your country and people. Greetings.

as from polish point of view I can hear quite a lot of similarities, althou in most sentences I can hardly hear any spaces between the words, thats insane! :) Also some words are very similar but with diffrent meaning! like curu, which sounds like pl. córa (cura) - a daughter. Also in some words you may notice a strange shift, like croatian tebe (yours-you) to polish ciebie. Like if "t" turn into "tz" and got softened by "i" in polish. On overall, it sounds like a mixture of polish and russian to me :) in most cases easy to understand for a pole ;) Pozdrawiam z Polski, Grześ

it's even worse for Czech - dcera (pronounced cera) is daughter, but coura is bitch :-D I also noticed they are not pronouncin O and A on end of words phoneticaly, so it's really similar to Russian where it's really mess. But even Poles are doing that in some words like dobry where y sounds like mix of y and e to me. In Czech E is always clearly E, A always A etc...

I think some of the commenters are being overly critical of the video. This is their first crack at it, and they deserve credit and encouragement more than anything. Remember that Easy German's first episode wasn't as exciting as more recent ones-all they did was ask people on the street how they were doing and when the people responded, they thanked them and let them their way. Give Easy Croatian time, I'm sure they'll have more conversation-focused episodes soon.

Croatian is almost the same as Bulgarian with some dialect words. I understand 95%, and this is the first time I hear Croatian. I see about 5% Serbian. Interesting that it feels easier to understand than Macedonian, which is artificially made from a pure Bulgarian dialect. And Croatian is naturally developed language. Interesting where in time did the people split. As it's obvious we were one nation in the distant past.

I would love to have all Slavic languages. My native language is Polish and I really enjoy listening to Slavic languages. I wouldn't understand much without the subtitles but being able to read and having a translation to it makes me understand nearly like my own language.

hello, almost everyone here speaks very good english. croatian would be really hard for you I think cause our languages are soo different. you can always come as a tourist, and ofcourse as a worker, croatia is very open to foreigners. there is kinda a lot of east/southeast asian people living here. even my first neighbour is married to an indian-great guy :)

To sum up the differences between Serbian and Croatian, as well as their speakers, for all of you who are genuinely curious, I'll say only this: these aren't 2 languages but 3. 1: Serbian - the native language of Serbs, who all understand Croatian, respect Croatians and treat everyone in a civilized way. They rarely post comments on KZfaq. 2. Croatian - the native language of Croats, who all understand Serbian, respect Serbs and treat everyone in a civilized way. They rarely post comments on KZfaq, but you'll find some here, since it is about their native language. 3. Nationalist - the native language of Serbian and Croatian nationalists. Serbian and Croatian nationalists understand each other perfectly, since it is practically one language and foreigners, even Serbs and Croats often cannot tell the difference. This is a literary language whose literary corpus is inspired by the oral poetry of the 1990's and has its vast literary corpus in the KZfaq comment sections, with many great pieces of literature quoted under this video. I hope this makes it clearer. I warmly invite everyone to visit Serbia and Croatia and get to know their languages and cultures, and meet, for the most part, the first two categories of their inhabitants.

I'm Czech and i really like Croatian, it's really easy for me to pronounce most of the phrases. And it's REALLY similar to Czech, we say a lot of those phrases too but sometimes they mean something a bit different but the meaning is the same or it's just a synonym :Dd and of course we would type them a bit differently too. But in general, it's so similar so when i hear fluent Croatian i can understand nearly everything:)

thank you so much for your wise comment. Our first Easy German video had a damaged, overdriven sound. And at that time I was already quite experienced video maker. So please do understand: we are a community of do - it - yourself and share with your friends. We all need time to learn and to improve.

I am American; I have watched about 5 of these videos so far and they are awesome. This is such a fantastic format for language acquisition--the listening component plus the reading component together on one screen. Brilliant. I will say, however, that the English subtitles are not always 100% accurate. I would love to help edit the subtitles for you (for free) if you were interested.

It sounds very similar to Russian, it sounds sort of gutteral and "hard". But the Dalmatian dialect sounds much more musical and soft, it flows better. :)

I learned a good amount of Croatian 30 years ago as an exchange student living in Croatia. The language certainly grew on me as I learned more and more, and I'm particularly fond of the Dalmatian dialect. So my cultural experience gives me a bias towards liking the way Croatian sounds. To m, the least pleasant-sounding languages are Asian--Cambodian, Viet Namese, Mandarin, Lao, etc.
