Easy Daisy Puff (Jasmine Stitch) Blanket - Beginner Crochet Tutorial

The Jasmine stitch is fast becoming my favorite stitch! I found out it was called a Jasmine stitch shortly after making this video which is why I called it a Daisy Puff. Too late to change the video now lol.
It's super easy to get the hang of, even if you're a complete beginner, or still new to crochet. Once you do, you can breeze through this blanket and have something really special and functional to enjoy! If you're not ready to make your blanket yet, that's ok! Just watch through this tutorial and you'll be an expert even before you buy your yarn. The only stitches you need to know for this tutorial are the Chain Stitch and Single Crochet.

If you're having trouble with the flowers not being tight, don't be afraid to pull tight on the slip stitch. Before you pull the loop through, after picking up the 8th loop, give it a good tug and then pull it through the second loop. Then you'll have nice, tight flowers with no big gaps. Hope that helps someone.

I used your pattern a long time ago on a blanket my cats pulled the stitches out on but decided to come back and use it for a cardigan. I got mixed up with another lady on youtube doing the same stitch with the same colored yarn and i was thinking 'I don't ever remember it being this difficult'. Fast forward through a few minutes of searching and i found your tutorial. Thank God! You have THE BEST video for this stitch on youtube. Thank you for not over complicating things or confusing me!

Thank you! I was looking for an interesting stitch for a baby blanket. I consider myself an adventurous beginner at crochet, but it's so much easier to watch a video than follow a pattern! Once I figured out each three-part stitch makes half of a flower, it was easy to visualize and go for it. Using the Super Bulky Bernat Blanket yarn and an N hook I only have to pull through twice for each puff stitch (total of four loops on the hook instead of 8). It looks like it will take 4 or 5 skeins to make a baby blanket which is not bad at all when bulky yarn goes so fast! Great video, thanks for sharing!
@roseobsydian
@roseobsydian 3 жыл бұрын
Just some constructive feedback as I was following this tutorial: I struggled with where to put the hook for the chain of puff stitches: after searching around, I think it is in between the single crochet stitch and not the chain; it was just confusing because you didn’t specify. I wish you had specified your yarn and hook size: I had to play around and frog a few times until I got a size I wanted but I would have liked a base idea to start from. I would have liked to see how the end of your first row looked but your hand was covering it at that part of the video. It took me a minute to realize that it’s no different than the other daisy stitches but the last puff of the stitch is built into the first chain rather than a single crochet space. Overall I really liked your video and it helped teach me this stitch, thank you!

I hear ya on that! I've been watching her and a few others labeled "beginner" but even after watching and watching as well as trying and trying over and over I'm about to give up at least for now. It seems every "teacher" has a little bit different stitch with varying numbers of loops to pick up. I have found it extremely hard to keep control of all the loops when I'm trying to join them and loosing the 8th stitch when I try to pull through. This is something that will require hours and hours of practice, at least for me, as well as maybe I need to find someone who will show me in person so I can ask questions and receive personalized instructions as I go. I'm sure eventually I can master it but I have seen many comments saying this stitch uses way to much yarn and any item made will be quiet expensive. It is pretty but I'm putting this stitch on the back burner for now.

I'm attempted to use this stitch to make a carseat cover for my nieces new baby and have now taken it apart and started over MULTIPLE times because each time I get to the end of my second row I have one lone puff stitch left so I cannot complete the daisy! I pylled apart back to the 1st row of puff stitches and removed one, started again and yet again left with one lone puff stitch at the end of the second row. So making the puff stitch to the length of whatever you're wanting does NOT work! Any suggestions?

I’ve never crocheted before, but I came across your videos and decided to give it a try. What yarn & brand did you use for this blanket? Also what size needle is that? I’m hoping to get started soon.

I've been wanting to make a blanket using this stitch. I think it'd be very warm. I also think it's a yarn hog, but worth it. You're making a queen-size blanket so my question is, using the yarn in the video, (I'm guessing it's a #4 weight) how many skeins did you buy of how many ounces? I want to make it twin-size and would want to buy the yarn I'd need, you know, to have them all in the same lot number. Thank you for this awesome stitch tutorial. I know my 94 yr old mom will love it.

It is indeed a yarn hog! I’m using a medium weight yarn. It comes in 300g skeins. I’m about a third of the way done and I’ve already used 5 skeins

@@StudioCrafti Ooo Ok. This will break my record yarn used in a blanket. I used 10 Caron cakes for a blanket. 🙂 Thank you. I'll start it in two weeks when it's my turn to care for my mom.

This is a pretty stitch but not very economic! So much yarn used, it'll be expensive to make anything substantial!

You can always do, two rows of this stitch. And then two rows of maybe a half double. It'll make a nice effect.

I'm following the instructions and it's coming along quite nicely but I'm having trouble with the end of the row, when I make the plain puff. The sides aren't coming out straight like in the video. Don't know what I'm doing wrong.

How do you finish it off or swap the yarn if you run out of it?

Does it matter how many puff stitches you make as your base? Like does it have to be a multiple of three plus 1?

I was wondering the same thing, it seems like it would be important to have some sort of ratio.

I have one extra puff stitch untouched and I don't know what to do with it. I think I'm just going to hide it. LOL
