Follow our step-by-step guide to create classic chicken schnitzel and delicious vegetarian and gluten-free versions. Whether you're a fan of traditional schnitzel or looking for a new twist, we've got you covered.
👩🏼🍳 Recipe:
🟣 Prep your protein:
Chicken breast-cut in the middle to create thin slices (if not cut from the store). If you find the slices a bit too thick, pound them with a meat mallet (if you don't have one, get creative and use a small cutting board or anything flat). Dry the chicken well with a paper towel.
Tofu- get EXTRA FIRM tofu, place it on a cooling rack or a bunch of paper towels, and place a heavy pan or pan with rice/beans to press it down. Leave for 20 minutes until fairly dry. Then cut into 1/2 slices.
🟣 Prepare 3 bowls: 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 beaten egg, 1 cup breadcrumbs. For the latter, get gluten-free if that's your dietary preference.
🟣 Add spices to your breadcrumbs: 1 tsp of salt, and if you'd like another 2 Tbsp of additional spices such as Schnitz them spice blend (the link is above)• Paprika and garlic powder• Dry parsley, oregano, thyme
🟣 Place frying oil in a pan about 1/4 inch high on medium-high heat. Check with the tip of the protein- if you hear the sizzle, the oil is ready! Carefully place the chicken or tofu in the hot oil and fry for 3-4 minutes on each side.
🟣 Meanwhile, prepare a plate with paper towels and place the cooked schnitzel with a paper towel between each layer.
