EASY DIY Dog Coat Refashion - making cute dog clothes from baby clothes

Here I make my little puppy Esme an adorable DIY dog coat. I refashioned it from a baby's jacket and perfect dog clothes!
This is very different from my usual refashions, but when it gets cold, you have to keep your fur babies warm! And those coats from the pet store are expensive!
I hope you enjoy my solution to making a DIY dog jacket!

Thank you for this. I had the idea to pick up a baby Carhartt jacket at the thrift store for my pup. He's 13 and has had a lot of hair loss. I left sleeves on his cus he's so dang frail. Thank you for this, truly ❤️

She. Is adorable and so good! Foster just would not stand for me. He kept rolling on his back, :). So I finally decided to watch a few videos to see how other pet parents are doing. Adjusting thrifted baby outfits is brilliant.

Oh My Word. That is Adorable. I have a Mini Beagle and she hates the cold. I made her sweaters out of Sweater Sleeves. Of course the sweaters came from 2nd hand. :D I love your construction ideas.

Oh Evelyn, She was trying to figure out what you were trying to do with her leg, then she showed you she had it! She watched you remaking her jacket as if she knew from the start that it was for her. She looked lovely in the finished jacket, and what a model! She's a real gem, Evelyn. Oh, and nice job on the jacket! ; )

I had two dachshunds for whom I had coats made. My female, who was quite thin, wore her coat all day, every day, through the winter. At night, of course, they both slept with me.

I have bought baby items for my dog as well! I typically buy sweaters that have the same look front and back so I can reverse them. Meaning, when Roger wears them, the front side is on his back. I just shorten the sleeves and he is good to go!

So glad I found your channel. I luv DIY and refashioned clothing. My brother's dog also had a haircut and needs a coat. I went to the second hand store and bought a child's rain coat with a hood. It has snaps, it will need adjusting and will put a thicker lining. Esme's such a good girl and so smart. THANK YOU

I love this and will try it, but I will have the closure on top running along her spine. It’s easier to put on, as the dog can step into it. Can’t wait to try.

I think a really good idea for a 2.0 would be finding an old wooly jumper you don't like. Put that in a hot wash until it felts and use that material to make the coat with a pattern. Reuses an old jumper that would have otherwise been thrown out, still warm and it would look very cute

Leah that is a great idea! That would be great to make more the 'cape' look (if that makes sense) so I can cut out a pattern from the felt. Thank you, I will keep that in mind!

It would have been easier just to cut the back of the coat and added a seamless seam there. I would have kept the zipper and pockets the same.

Dogs don't have roating shoulders only people do. So fasten along back so arms can go in straight. Saves your lovely doggy any discomfort ❤

Doesn't anyone else think that zippers, snaps, or velcro should be on the back? Dressing dogs isn't easy and trying to snap or zip from underneath is harder still. I would've put the zipper on the back and taken it in underneath.

Evelyn I was excited to see that you have a tutorial on making a doggie coat. I have a doggie that looks very similar to yours🙂...Im a bit concerned...I note that you are tying your doggies ears with something to make a cute look. It does look cute☺️... But.. I'm concerned that by doing this you may be cutting off the circulation of your doggies ears😧. Just a heads up🤗.... Marie🌹

I'm so confused!!!!! Insert says to trace pattern, but I'm not sure how you would do this without cutting up your pattern. Why not just cut your pattern out and put it on fabric and start cutting? Please help???? First time sewer, my grandmother was a seamstress, but passed away years ago and I truly have no one to ask.

Fits great, I don’t know about zippers with dogs that have medium to long hair wouldn’t want the hair fur to get gaunt in the zipper. Cute doggie again great fit. This is 2019 not 1940 you need to redo your eyebrows they look way out of place.
