During plants growing season it is important to feed orchids so they have enough energy to put out new flowers. This is a frugal, natural way to increase growth in your plants. I used eggshells that I saved from peeling my boiled eggs. When you see a flower spike on your orchid this is a perfect time to fertilize them.
Use this powder in small amounts about once every two weeks and be sure to monitor for signs of over-fertilization. This could look like burnt tips or white build upon the roots and leaves.

I love this! My husband is always so disappointed because our orchids never make it. Maybe we'll give it another try with your fertilizer. 😻

Yes try it. The long cold season triggers flower initiation. When the spike dies and rots in the middle that is calcium deficiency. I also add epsom salt to my water sprayer and that seems to help. I'm definitely no expert but I have managed to get growth on these and I am excited! I will probably do an update video and show my other very orchids that I have managed to wean back from my neglect. Btw, thanks for watching and commenting!

hey thanks! I am happy that you enjoyed the vids! & my spice jar, with this recycling issue going on I try to reuse what I can. I'm not even sure why I purchased a small plastic one in the first place. Maybe I knew I would need it. 😊

Oh my goodness, I wish I had saw this video last year when my orchid started failing. It was my first one and I was devastated when it died. But, great video, very very informative! I wonder if eggshell powder would help out my vegetable garden?? I usually just bury the shells.

Great advise and your orchids look great but I was stunned to see you use a mid century modern Braun grinder to do it. I have all colors of those Braun grinders as they are collectibles and are not for daily use. Eek😫

boldsoulsister Really!? Is is bad to use? I found it at a yard sale and it works great. I’m surprised at how strong the mother is.

@@VanzHumbleHome Yeah, its a great grinder but again a collectible and was at one point an installation at MOMA. You should clean it up and keep for display. You can kind a cheap one at any thrift store to do the egg shell grinding. @@tashalawson2028 Thanks! lol, The value for me is that it works great and I do still use it. I looked up what I would resell it for but it has a broken lid and I think I may break even if I were to purchase a new one and sell and ship this one. Plus, I have a feeling thing were made with better quality back in the day I would probably have to dish out more money to match the quality of this one or get into a cycle of replacing cheapies. I'm sticking with this oldie but goodie. Thanks for your support!
