With that rolled up coir matting, I would think that even concrete mesh, hardware cloth, chicken wire, etc. could be used as the frame for containing the compost. Could make any size container that way too. Good luck with the strawpotatoes.

G'day from downunder. Back in the day (60 years ago, as a kid) we used old tyres to grow our potatoes, just add a tyre & fill with soil as the plant grew. At the end of season just remove the tyres one at a time to harvest & clean up. Tyres need to be drilled low for drainage. The basket and mat is a great idea!! 🇦🇺 🍺 🍺

This is fascinating I never thought to grow potatoes and strawberries in the same tower! What a huge space saver. I just started a potato tower using cattle panel and straw, I’m going to try and stick some strawberries in there too.

I can't even begin to tell you enough just how much I love your channel. I have learned so much from you and have the intention of putting some of your ideas to good use this coming season. I do have one pretty huge problem out near the garden that I would like to ask for your opinion on, and would appreciate anything that you have to say. I have an area that runs near my garden beds that does not drain well when it rains. As a matter of fact, it tends to turn into a very shallow pond of sorts, retaining four to five inches of water for days to over a week after a rain. Every Fall and Spring since we've moved in we have added soil, leaves, and used soil from our grow pots, and filled up the area as best we could. But as soon as it rains all of that just seems to soak right into the ground and disappears. I did come up with an idea that I thought would settle the gardening part of it and placed some two by fours onto cinder blocks last season with my grow bags (first time with grow bags) on top, but because of all the rain, all the nutrients just washed out of the bags and the tomato plants struggled all season, it was a lesson well learned. I love to garden, but do not own the land and therefore cannot give up and just turn it into an actual permanent pond. According to the locals, it does not usually rain as much as it has been, and they have also been struggling with their gardens and crops. I really want to do something, what are your thoughts and possible suggestions? What would you do if faced with the same predicament? Hi Dan, I love watching your videos. You actually got me started on my little backyard garden 2 years ago. I've learned so much about sheet mulching and finding free tree mulch. The first time I received my pile of tree mulch, my husband drove past our house :) LOL. I even put in a little fleur de lawn for my little dog and I love it! Thanks so much for all the great tips. This potatoe/strawberry tower is definitely going to be my next project.
