This Whiskey and Cigar Butler is an easy project for any novice woodworker and a great gift idea too. As we all know, a good Whiskey and a fine cigar are a match made in heaven. And having a place for them is pure joy. For that reason, I decided to make a whiskey and cigar butler with a basic design that is over a century old. It’s a place for your whiskey to keep condensation off the fine furniture and a spot for your cigar so it won’t roll off or burn the table. But this project takes it a step further by up-cycling old bourbon barrel staves and hoops into a useful, attractive, and highly functional whiskey and cigar butler.

Javier - great to hear you are giving it a shot. Just be careful when plowing the cigar groove. Do it in a couple of passes.

Giving me a great idea. Maybe drill a couple holes in the end grain to let some of the aroma out.

Now that might be a great idea! I saved a bucket of shavings from the drilling process because it smelled so good. Maybe finish it then drill the glass depression and leave it raw.

@@30minutewoodshop just finished this product. Definitely wish I had a router table. I had to use the dado stack in my table saw. I haven't started sending yet. I think I'll go palm sander and go 80 up to 220. I think I'll take a laser to it and throw the Marine Corps logo on the band

Thx - the 3" or 90mm bit creates the pocket that the glass sets in.

Thanks, great idea! What are the dimensions for the length? By the way, a jig saw works great to cut these and seems safer that a miter saw.

9-1/2 inches long seems to work best. And I'll have to try the jigsaw, thanks for the tip.

Did you stain the metal strips?

No, I just dusted them off with 320 grit lightly and hit them with a couple coats of Poly. Though that is a great idea for some other sections of the barrel bands that have heavier rust - thanks!

I used 3/4" Carpet tacks. They look just like the old style cut nails and hold really well in the White Oak.
