I really love Part 2 of this video. Funny, I just noticed a comment from someone who prefers speaking on the videos. I am the opposite, I love the music and that you just do the pour and don't spend inordinate time mixing and waffling like a lot of the videos do.

@OlgaSoby
@OlgaSoby 5 жыл бұрын
I know, unfortunately, I didn't have that part filmed. For this feather, I had some leftover paint in the cup from the previous pour. And for that previous pour, I had paint layered in the cup, and this is how it ended up separated. I'll make sure to film everything for future videos ;)

@@OlgaSoby I have put off trying out acrylic pours but don't know why. I know I can't do a feather on my first attempt but am sure with some practice and knowledge that I can one day soon. Thanks for the insperation.
@OlgaSoby
@OlgaSoby 5 жыл бұрын
Honestly, Chuck, I think that it has to come from within. I mean the desire to create. And it is important to leave all of your expectations aside. That is the only right way to do the art, especially such an intuitive type of it as pouring. It's trite, but it's true. Sometimes I'm trying to push myself to do a certain pour or certain painting, and it never works out. And sometimes I let it all go, put some inspiring music on, and let the ideas flow. I'm not saying that you don't need to learn and to practice, because you definitely do. But it's important to enjoy what you are doing. PS most definitely you can do the feather! Maybe it wouldn't be perfect on the first attempt, but a couple more tries and you'll master it!

Hi, beautiful work. What kind - make of varnish do you prefer to use to finish your work? Thanks
@OlgaSoby
@OlgaSoby 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jana, thank you so much! When it comes to pouring, I prefer aerosol spray varnish, because pour art is so smooth, and all the brush strokes or "imperfections" are very noticeable, and I don't want any of those. Spray varnish is super easy to use. I prefer Krylon Spay varnish which is cheaper, or Windsor&Newton spray varnish, which is more expensive, but a little bit nicer. Both in gloss. And when I finish regular paintings, I use regular varnish, my favorite one is Gloss Medium&Varnish by Liquitex, which is a nice 2-in-1 product (here is my little review of it - smartartmaterials.com/liquitex-gloss-medium-and-varnish). Cheers

I use feathers when I paint. I ruffle the quills up and then touch them in the paint I’m using. Then I drag them on the canvas. That is one technique. I think I will try pouring a feather and try my technique with a feather. I like your feather and I hope you try my technique.

Newbie (1st day binging on these videos) .... what causes the cells to open? Beautifully done by the way.
@OlgaSoby
@OlgaSoby 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Creation of cells is a process of "movement" in the layers of paint where the paint on top separates and allows colors underneath to show through (usually in round shapes). Any type of silicone helps to enhance this process. Some techniques, eg swipe, are also focused on the creation of cells. Hope this helps :)

@OlgaSoby

Hi Kees, I mix acrylic paint with Floetrol (as a pouring medium) - 1 part of Paint to 3 parts of Floetrol. Also I add a little bit (few drops) of hair serum with dimethicone to one or two colors for cells. You can use a pure dimethicone instead, or a silicone.

Hi Umme! Thank you for your comment! If you are just planning to paint with a brush, then just acrylic paint + a little bit of water would be fine. But if you want to pour the paint (like on this video) you need to add a pouring medium to the paint to increase the flow and make it more runny. If you don't have Floetrol in your country, try to use a glue instead

Thank you, Amber! It was white paint with 3 parts of Floetrol and a little bit of distilled water to make it runnier (for easy coverage)

Hello, I really admire your work! I'm from Brazil and I'm really enjoying this fluid painting technique, I'm curious and not an artist. I would love to know what you put on the screen to prepare it, a white liquid, which most artists do, as I do not understand I have this doubt, could you guide me? Thank you!

Hi Marcia, the white paint that I poured on the canvas first is a mixture of Acrylic Paint and Floetrol that I use as a pouring medium. I understand that there are many questions about this type of art, start with checking out this article smartartmaterials.com/acrylic-paint-pouring-supplies/ and you are welcome to join our Facebook group if you are going to have any more question facebook.com/groups/smartartmaterials/

Where can I purchase the hair serum? Can I use a Medium to add to my acrylic paint to achieve the same effects.
@OlgaSoby
@OlgaSoby 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandra, I order hair serum, just like most of my art supplies, on Amazon - amzn.to/2LXtlr0 . So hair serum is needed to enhance the production of beautiful cells (due to its main ingredient Dimethicone) and Pouting Medium is needed to increase the flow of the paint and make it runnier. So they work for 2 different durposes. I'm explaining about Pouring Medium in this article - smartartmaterials.com/acrylic-pouring-medium and about the rest of the art supplies for pouting here - smartartmaterials.com/acrylic-paint-pouring-supplies
