Here is a brand new H4 replacement LED bulb for motorcycles, that truly is an easy fit, going in exactly like a normal bulb. The cutoff is normal, no blinding drivers. They are only 15 watts, have all internal heatsinks and don't require anything different about your bike as far as the install. The color is a pure white, matching the running lights on most bikes. While the low beam night performance is better than most, it still misses much right in front of the bike due to only having up-firing diodes. The high beam is lacking. IF YOU DON'T RIDE MUCH AT NIGHT, this is a great vanity upgrade for about $35/pair. Get them here: amzn.to/2JreXsK
Correction, I flip flopped the explanation of which filament was high and low.

I installed a $26 LED offroad light (just one and not the set as is customary for adv bikes) from Harbor Freight under the Halogen light as an assist. I tabbed it into my brights and is pointing slightly down. The combination of the two is perfect and doesn't blind other drivers.

One useful application of this bulb is to free up wattage from the bikes charging system to allow battery charging when using heated grips and gps etc. Some bikes have very marginal spare wattage, and batteries will charge slower in winter when using accessories especially on short trips. If you have twin headlights it frees up around 100w of electricity which would go to charging battery.

TWO, 1st, thanks for the tip on phone cam exposure lock. I was not aware of that feature on my phone without having to dive deeper. 2nd, with background in Electrical Engineering I'm surprised some company hasn't come out with a 360 COB design to replicate standard filament output since the reflectors are such a huge part of lighting design. This has the potential to solve all the LED designs of filament outputs patterns. Cheers on the comprehensive review!

They did, and there are quite a number of them. Problem is - Bryan for some reason goes for cheapest solutions. Proper LED replacements for reflectors that are not designed for them require specific tech to work. Tech like extremely thin base, no more than a millimeter thick, so that distance between LEDs is identical to the width of a filament. Leds also need to be about a millimeter wide for the same reason. It needs specific reflectors on the bulb to direct light into blind spots. It needs to be powerful and efficient enough so as not to burn this rather delicate construction. Basically, if you are looking at something that is sub $100 a pair, you are better off with normal bulbs. Between 100 and 200 your mileage may vary in terms of quality of lighting, but they will provide the WOW factor to your bike from a bystander point of view and be on par with halogens in terms of brightness at the very least. Proper ones are $200+. Examples: www.headlightrevolution.com/headlight-revolution-perfectfit-led-headlights-h4-bulbs-PF1.H4_2?quantity=1 www.headlightrevolution.com/h4-2stroke-led-bulbs?quantity=1 www.headlightrevolution.com/H4-9003-Ultra-2.0_2?quantity=1 The latter has specifically designed for automotive use LEDs, is shockingly bright, and mirrors halogen light spread almost perfectly. Just make sure your bulbs and lights are properly aligned because this is easily a quadruple light output of a standard FJR1300 bulb and you would not want it hitting incoming traffic.

@@TwoWheelObsession thanks for your answer. I was researching about LED stop lights. For what I have seen in OSRAM and Philips products so far, those lights produce less lumens. So, I don't want that. I wanted something more bright that at the same time had lower Watts for my bike. Its sad, but retrofitting LED lights doesn't seem to work.

I upgraded to STEDI LED H4 copperheads, which are CANBUS compatible and have braided heatsinks. Went from 850 to 1760 lumens per lamp and to 5700K color temp. Lighting is way better, but just need to fine tune their seating to minimize some minor artifacts and sharpen the cut-offs.

I was thinking either LEDs if there are some good ones out there or just stock H4 lights and mount aux LED lights to give a different color and two extra lights for visibility by the cages wanting to turn left in front of me.

Thank you for the video! But I believe you've got the halogen filaments mixed up. There are indeed two of them. However: the "open" one (without a shroud underneath it) is the high beam. It's designed to throw light all around the reflector bucket. This light is reflected forwards - both upwards and downwards - so that you'll light up both up and down the road ahead. The filament with a shroud under it is the low beam. It's designed to only throw light upwards into the reflector bucket. The light gets REFLECTED downwards toward the road surface. This means you won't be blinding oncoming traffic.

absolutely correct, the filaments are the other way round, if the night shots were showing a sign on the led side (left), the halogen would also not shine as bright, a great presentation but not toally correct, sorry fella.

Would be nice if some of the better aftermarket companies started making retrofit reflector housings specifically designed for LEDs. I personally use Phillips Race Visions on my bike, a bit brighter than the silverstars and about as white as a halogen can get without looking blue. They work great at night, I suspect like the silverstars they won't last.

I got my hopes up for a minute there. Like you, I ride an FJR, and I do ride a lot at night. I wonder why they can't put low beam diodes on both sides of the bulb to balance that out the way it's supposed to be, and give the light closer to the front end of the bike. Perhaps a geometry thing or the thickness of the bulb itself, I have no idea. Any thoughts on that?

Something I feel you forgot to mention, which I thought you were when you began to speak about day riding, is the road presence and safety aspect. LED bulds are great at catching motorists attention during day light hours, especially if you're running two lights parallel to one another (running two lights across a centre line over a single centre or offset improves the ability to judge the distance and speed of a vehicle approaching you). Apart from that however great review. I noticed someone below me mentioned the Yamaha Tracer 900GT. Having been provided one by my local dealer as a loan bike, for 48 hours this past weekend whilst my '17 09 was in for it's service (24.5k miles from new :D) I can say it's a fantastic bike (besides the windshield). Do you not have a local dealership you could strike up a deal with which will allow you to regularly test bikes?

On the test did you take into account that the housing on the left and right of the light should be different. I.e. because you didnt swap out the bulbs for each reflector housing it's hard to tell what each one is suppossed to do. For example a rhd car would have a left light that is angled higher and right light angled lower and vice versa for lhd so not to blind oncoming drivers but illuminate pedestrians. I do agree though the lower half isnt as good.

I really think it's a basis of how you aim. The downfall is you can't adjust each light like a car which can help. I currently use silver stars and my issue is being I say I run aux lights to maximize my depth and foreground. I use 45° spread on my aux to maximize my areas I can't see and they adjust individually to help aid the blindspots. Open reflection housing is much better to be seen than projector headlights that are more effective in isolation of light area. So in my mind, you like the spread of light in reflection but, led doesn't. You get brighter light on reflection but more isolated, so to combat that I use aux led lights that are smaller and still effective in seeing blind spots. Yet still being led I can see brighter of all areas.I can point them not to blind drivers. Also if I chose LEDs like you have. Then much more brighter combined and the aux lights are not blinding when positioned correctly.

Side note, the only thing I would recommend is repeating this test with the bike in the exact same position with the bulbs reversed to get a completely accurate review. Now I don't know on your bike, and because mine is an older CBX550F and has a single headlight, if the angle of the light and reflectors are slightly different on each side. I know on cars in North America, the right side is designed to shoot light farther and in a more spread out beam toward the right side of the car. This is to light up the road side and give you a better chance of seeing something on the side, or an animal coming out of the tree line at a greater distance. The left side is generally more focused in front of the car you give you good light, but to not completely blind on coming traffic. I don't know if they do that on bikes with twin lights or not, but it i would be worth repeating the experiment a second time real quick with them reversed just to see.

I've been hesitant to get LED bulbs for my Super Tenere. Unlike the FRJ1300 (and some others) there aren't convenient remote adjusters for the beam. I have to struggle with a small ratchet and it's always adjust, road test and repeat. Even when I think I have them set where I'm not blinding incoming traffic, yet high enough to be safe riding at night...I still get flashed a lot. Sounds like these LEDs might be worth a try, though.

These bulbs are way too blue! So even in the area where the light does hit, your eye resolves so little details, that you might as well be using a D-cell flashlight instead. Untill there's a 4700K LED on the market, don't even bother.
