Easy Grief Protection in Minecraft - Command Block Tutorial 1.20.1 Spawn / Build Protection w/ Teams

Hi everyone! Today I'm showing you how to make a super easy grief protection area in your survival world using command blocks!

Command Block Commands:
Repeat & Always Active
execute if entity @e[distance=..10] run gamemode adventure @e[gamemode=survival,distance=..10]
execute if entity @e[distance=12..15] run gamemode survival @e[gamemode=adventure,distance=12..15]
Command Block Commands (Teams):
Repeat & Always Active
execute if entity @e[distance=..10] run gamemode adventure @e[tag=!TAGNAME,gamemode=survival,distance=..10]
execute if entity @e[distance=12..15] run gamemode survival @e[gamemode=adventure,distance=12..15]
TAGNAME = Name of the tag you've given to yourself/team.

It’s made to be automatic and always on but if you’d like to put it on a on/off switch, you could. You just need to change the bottom command block to “needs redstone” and use a lever on the ground next to the bottom command block. Hope this helps!

Heyo! Yes, so if you want a larger area, you need to increase the distance numbers. Example: “distance=..50” would be about 50 blocks protected in each direction from the command block. You have to be sure to change it twice in each command block. There’s two “distance=“ in each block. You also have to be sure on the top block, you change both “distance=“ to the corresponding number. Example: “distance=52..55” change both of those and it should work. If could also depend on the server plugins. Let me know if that works!

Yeah, that is one flaw. There's also some issues if you portal or teleport within the area. I'm making a new video soon for a more advanced way to set this up that addresses some of those issues.

@@joels2494 Thanks! I haven't figured out a work around for this specific issue just yet. I'm not sure if it's possible since TNT damage is a universal gamerule. When I use this for maps, I try to always remember that when I set the areas up and leave a little room in case someone does try it. I do have a video coming out next week that addresses some of the other issues like portals and being teleported within the area.

Warps are a little weird because you need to somehow change the gamemode back if they don't leave the area. I have an idea that could work using tags but I haven't tested it out yet. I'll make a video if I get it working.

So I did exactly what you explained but it won’t put me back into survival mode, I have a range of 180 blocks because it’s a pvp arena

I’ve noticed it will have issues if the area is too big. I think it has to do with the command blocks not being loaded in

The Execute part is not usefull you can just do "gamemode adventure @e[gamemode=survival,distance..10]"

Sorry to hear, are you on Java? This unfortunately only works for Java. Also, be sure you’re in either survival or adventure mode for this to work.

@@DBKMC im am on java and i did everything you said. maybe the comand block doesnt work becouse im using a tlauncher or this doeasnt work on version 1.20.4

@@x_panmaska_x8434 Hello! I just tested it on 1.20.4 and it seems to be working for me. I don't think tlauncher would effect it. Be sure both command blocks are set to repeat and always active and on top of each other. Also, you need to be in survival or adventure for them to change, if you're testing in creative, it won't work. Hope that helps! Let me know!

@@DBKMC im using 1.20.4 and i went into survival, i used 40 blocks for entering into adventure mode and 42..45 blocks for survival, whats wrong with it? i put the 2 command blocks ontop of eachother
