Malassadas are a portuguese recipe, from the the region of the beautiful Açores I believe portuguese influence shows in many ways in the Hawaii, like the ukulele which is the same as our "cavaquinho". Love and light from Portugal! 🌼

Thank you for this great recipe! I've tried it just today and came out wonderful! Had to roll out and use a cutter though as initially - when just shaping with my hands after frying - the dough inside wouldn't cook! Then figured out had put too much dough so rolled out and it worked fine! Any advice for storage to keep them fresh?

Hi there! They’re like donuts, so treating them like so is what we recommend. But in terms of reheating, a few minutes in the over and perhaps a small dash of fresh sugar never hurt anyone lol 😁

Just returned from Oahu - I had Malasadas from Leonard's Bakery and they were 'original' with sweet and sour sugar on them. So yummy. How do you make sweet and sour sugar?

hello ... i found your channel, because i was looking for a recipe for malassadas, i know that these were taken to Haiwaii by azoreans. I' m a native of the Azores, ours are slightly different, my mother used orange juice and burning water ... the format is also different, but it is natural they have acquired a different shape over the years, but , I'm the sure they must also be delicious ..

@LivNGwiththeNGs
@LivNGwiththeNGs 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jasmine, what kind of yeast did you use? Yeast does expire so be sure to check how old your yeast is. If it doesn’t rise after an hour, I let it sit longer til it doubles in size. And instead of using a towel, cover it with cling wrap. You want to be sure cold air isn’t coming into the bowl while rising.

What if you have instant yeast ? Do we have to do anything different
@LivNGwiththeNGs
@LivNGwiththeNGs 4 жыл бұрын
My understanding is instant yeast doesn’t have to necessarily be dissolved in water to use, but it also doesn’t hurt to dissolve it.

Is there suppose to be filling in these?
@LivNGwiththeNGs
@LivNGwiththeNGs 4 жыл бұрын
I didn’t put a filling in the video, but you can easily add a filling by creating a hole with a knife and filling it with a piping bag. Easy filling can be like your favorite jam or custard!

Listen I followed this recipe exactly. With the baby malasada and they came out raw in the middle. What did I do wrong?
@MC3141592653589
@MC3141592653589 Жыл бұрын
Malasadas are supposed to be undercooked a bit. The name comes from the Portuguese words Mal-Asada which means undercooked. If it is too raw, try to insulate it while it cools down to let residual heat finish the cooking.

@@LivNGwiththeNGs Thank you for responding. After I sent you the message, I found it. Can I use bread flour instead of APF? And, the water for the yeast: 2 T + 2 t warm water. Is it 2 T cold + 2 t warm?
@LivNGwiththeNGs
@LivNGwiththeNGs 3 жыл бұрын
@@NancyMartinez-lt4sk I personally haven’t used bread flour for malasadas, but I don’t see it being a problem. Let me know how they turn out! These are super fluffy and airy so if they come out this way with bread flour, then yay! Also it’s 2 T + an additional 2 tsp warm water. All warm water.

Would you know why my malasadas came out "heavy" and "dense" ?
@LivNGwiththeNGs
@LivNGwiththeNGs 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! It could be a number of things. You did not knead it or leave it to prove for long enough or you could have killed the yeast by leaving the dough to rise in a place that was too hot.
