As a beekeeper, may i suggest that you add raw honey to cooled down recipes. By staying 110 F and below, you won't be killing off all the good nutrition. That would also include hot teas, oatmeal, etc. 😊

So does this mean if I bake with honey I'm killing off the good stuff? 😢 I like to sweeten baked goods with honey instead of sugar
@jeanmuehlfelt7942

@silverdreamss93 I generally don't bake with it because of the high temps. Added tip: Honey also has a lower glycemic load than sugar but still needs limited use by diabetics.

@tenafleming7199 zi would. Not all good properties die under lower heat. I would try it. It's always better than sugar.

I weaned my toddler off snacks also. And if he is hungry before a meal is ready, I give him grapes, muester cheese, bananas or peanuts. I bought a board made of olive wood, where I keep his peanuts on so he may enjoy them. He has become better at eating as I gave up on snacks. It's nice to see someone who does this also.

Something I keep on hand in the freezer pretty much all the time is snicker bar inspired stuff dates. I take fresh pitted medjool dates and stuff them with homemade peanut butter or almond butter. Then I melt a little dark chocolate with coconut oil. I will either dip the stuffed dates into the chocolate or drizzle the chocolate over the date, and then sprinkle with a Redmonds course salt. Sometimes I’ll sprinkle some shredded coconut too. They are so easy to make and definitely a more wholesome option for a sweet snack or dessert.

I’m still a ‘kid’ myself, and although my siblings scoff processed snacks down their throats, i can’t bear to eat them. it has such a detrimental effect on their health and on the environment. everything now seems to be wrapped in plastic and it pains me to see party sized chip bags being inhaled by them. Now that i’m taking responsibility for what i put in my body, i have been making lunches and dinners (occasionally) for myself using organic ingredients, and it always fills me up, and my occasional nut/musli bar is a nice treat. yes, i never get to sit with my sisters as i eat my self made dinner at the table alone as my siblings sit in bed mindlessly scrolling while eating instant ramen, sometimes they eat my food and compliment me. i’ve been needing snack ideas that i can make over the weekend that i can bring to school, and all of these are perfect and so easy to make!! thank you so much for your hard work, and i can see how much your family cares for each other. it so heartwarming, i wish that someday, that will be my family.

Same thought above! Way to add them into it and enjoy the moments of letting them help too. Great job making some fun snacks for them and thanks for some great tips and ideas for snacks! Especially making the eggs ahead like that.. better than a bag of chips they could grab for sure! I've caught myself not buying as many "snacks" because they seem to snack too much. (Don't mind me as I go research better snacks to make for them to have throughout the day) Anyway, you're doing a great job & an awesome Momma! 💜
@Lucinda_Jackson
@Lucinda_Jackson 2 ай бұрын
You just showed up randomly in my feed today and I consider it a lucky thing. I'm subbing, but to be honest, I'm not sure how often I'll actually watch since your content isn't really my thing. (68, live alone and grandkids are a thousand miles away, don't live on a homestead, can't grow my own food though I do some herbs and cherry tomatoes) But I was so impressed with you and your approach to snacking. I agree if you teach your children to eat their three nutritionally sound meals per day, there shouldn't really be any need for snacks except very occasionally and as a special treat. I'm thrilled to say my daughter feels the same way and gets quite indignant about how people feed poison into their children. I think she has it right when she says it's yet another way for parents to simply not interact and "deal" with their children. If their children want attention, rather than stopping to attend to that real need or redirecting them into a healthy activity, these moms respond with, "Would you like a snack?" Or "Grab a snack and play on your tablet!" which encourages two unhealthy behaviors - using food to solve problems that aren't hunger and inactivity. I like your approach - getting the kids involved. As adults, we feel like things taste better if someone else fixes them for us, but kids feel the opposite. They LOVE food they've had a hand in creating even if it's marginal! 😂 Sorry - I'm rambling! I wish I could blame it on my age, but I've been a rambler my whole life! 😊❤

Kids generally need snacks. They have much smaller stomachs so they need to eat more frequently. Even I can’t function on 3 meals a day. I eat smaller meals and need a snack in between. And no, I don’t eat packaged snacks.
@Lucinda_Jackson
@Lucinda_Jackson 2 ай бұрын
@@AandM8 Kids don't need snacks. Especially today's typical kid who gets very little exercise or outdoor time and spends his time with scree screens. This is why we have an obesity epidemic in our country and why children are a fast-growing subset of that obesity problem. Former RN here.
@AandM8
@AandM8 2 ай бұрын
@@Lucinda_Jackson I have never heard of this assumption. As a mom to a 1 year old who’s never been on screens and is outside no less then 2-3 times a day, he grazes ALL day. I have 6 younger siblings and several nieces I watched grow up. They were all outside a lot and they all preferred to graze on food throughout the day. Not a one of them is obese in the slightest. I don’t know one toddler that’s ever just not grazed. It’s totally natural. Personally, the thing I hated most about school was not being allowed to graze. The hours between meals was way too long for me. At least for my toddler, I won’t be restricting food from him. He’s allowed to eat whenever he wants. Of course, we don’t have packaged snacks and he loves fruits and veggies 🤷🏻‍♀️
@AandM8
@AandM8 2 ай бұрын
@@Lucinda_Jackson oh I totally agree if a kid is sedentary all day, they shouldn’t be grazing on chips all day. But I don’t think restricting food is the way to go. I think the kinds of foods that are offered are far more important coupled with more outdoor time.

We snack very similarly to you! Gummies are some of our favorites also. If you sprinkle the gelatin over the unheated juice and let it sit for a few minutes it will bloom and when you transfer it to heat, it will dissolve into the juice perfectly and you dont have to bother with whisking it or worry about clumps forming. Makes an easy treat even easier to make!

I could def relate from the start of the video - I also like to spend an afternoon cooking to have things ready to eat for our family, and recently have started cooking hard boiled eggs in the air fryer to have on hand. 15min at 135C, followed by an ice bath 👍

Great tips. Thank you for the muffin recipe! We have been loving sourdough freezer waffles. They’re a great way to use up discard and my kids can make one themselves when they’re hungry. Yogurt with granola, sourdough crackers, carrots with homemade hummus, cottage cheese with applesauce, hard boiled eggs are also favorites. Now that my kids are older and play a lot of sports, they always want meat so I’ve been making a bag of marinated steak strips that they can cook on demand.

Thank you for all your tips! It’s been a struggle in my home because my husband is a major snacker and I am not lol. So with the children we keep lots of fruit and veggies on hand for them to snack on but I’ve been wanting to switch it up and be more intentional! Homemade granola, parfaits, and little bento boxes(especially for car trips) with boiled eggs, cheese cubes and fruit have been a win for us! I can’t wait to try the gummies and muffins you suggested!

also we make granola every week to either eat as cereal or top on yogurt. Oats and almonds chopped up and coconut flakes and some soft white wheat berries are mixed together and I add maple syrup and honey and coconut oil to hold it all together. add vanilla extract and cinnamon and a dash of salt. Bake it 350 for about 15 minutes stirring halfway. when it comes out I will mix in some raisins or cranberries and chocolate chips. so yummy and filling!

Hi, I just found your channel. We have a lot in common, I have three kids 12, 10, and 8. We homeschool, make most of our foods from scratch, such as slow cooking our meats and saving the bones for broth. I make all my breads from scratch using organic hard white wheat flour. I make a lot of quick breads for the kids breakfast such as spiced pumpkin bread, yogurt bread sticks, oven sheet pancakes, honey cornbread muffins, applesauce bread, etc. Or I will make peanut butter oat and honey balls for their breakfast or snack option. I make yeast breads as well. Once a week I make sandwich rolls about 16-20 rolls that last the entire week, I make pizza once a month using no nitrate meats and whole fat mozzarella cheese and season our own organic tomato sauce, I make other yeast breads as well and I like to to watch cooking channels (usually ones outside of the united states) that cook hand made breads from scratch to get new recipes and techniques. If we do buy prepackaged items we try to get the healthiest foods possible and buy organic and or all natural. we buy a lot of our beef from a local butcher. We are wanting to homestead soon but haven't got to that point yet since we just moved to undeveloped land a year ago and we were busy getting the land developed but Lord willing it will happen soon!

We love breakfast cookies! Oats, an egg, mashed banana or applesauce, a little bit of sweetener, some spices like cinnamon, and either dried or fresh fruit (blueberries are a favorite - I've even used frozen). Bake until golden. There are lots of recipes online. I usually wing it and add whatever we have and whatever sounds good!

It’s awesome to see moms that invite their kids into the kitchen to learn some basic cooking and baking skills. Part of why I know how to cook as a young adult is that I was always helping my mom in the kitchen. I’ve been cracking eggs since I was like three or four. I think it sucks when parents shoo their kids out of the kitchen and then are surprised when their kids grow up and don’t know how to cook. So it’s great to see you inviting your kids to help with the muffins. :)

Such a great video! A healthy snack we almost always keep on hand: I make cashew milk(so easy to make!!) and then I make individual jars of chia pudding out of that. After the pudding sets, I top them usually with frozen blueberries or frozen mango and a nut or different kind of seed. Drizzle of honey on top and they are really easy to eat any time of the day❤

I use a turkey baster to fill my gummy molds 😊 I make elderberry gummies for my grandchildren ... and for the rest of us. 😉 - Fermented carrot sticks dipped in homemade guacamole or hummus. - Leftovers (whatever the children didn't eat off their plate from the previous meal). I'm thankful all of my children now do this same thing with their children. - A smoothie - Homemade sourdough and almond butter toast - "Deviled" eggs - Egg, chicken, or salmon salad on sourdough crackers or toast. - Whatever is in the garden Im sure there are more snacks, but that's what came to mind.

I make my own granola. I love it as a snack (but I also very much love snacks) Cinnamon Oats Maple syrup Salt Quinoa Chia seeds Flax seeds Coconut oil Coconut flakes Whatever nuts I have, I put in. Ie. Almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts, pecans, hemp seeds, cashews, etc Roast 275 about 45 mins I also season and roast chickpeas. Usually I add cumin, salt, cayenne, paprika, nutritional yeast, onion powder, garlic powder and those are also pretty addicting. 😊
