Thanks for sharing another great video. It's so nice to watch you experimenting, trying different options, not being afraid of making "mistakes". I feel this is the most difficult part for the ones who come from a classical background. But'd love to play so naturally and spontaneously and have fun.

I wish every song was that easy. Like other comments, it would be wonderful to see many other songs for beginners

Tony, you started out fine, going from root position triads to 7th chords, to leaving out certain left hand notes that are redundant or that don’t convey useful information. But then you launched into drop-two voicings and tritone subs of tritone subs-fairly advanced stuff-without explaining any of that. This was supposed to be for beginners.

I am just starting with jazz standards (real book). So this brief tutorial comes right in time for me. Great teaching, thank you so much! Btw. a general tutorial about the interplay between left and right hand (rhythmically) would be awesome. I see you swinging sometimes and adding 8th notes, while at other times just staying on a chord for a whole bar. It looks and sounds so light and easy, but it is hard to adapt to. So, it would be great if you could talk a bit about these techniques.

Could someone plz explain the E7 chord in the intro at 1:33? It appears he plays a flat 2 and unsure why. Thank you
@man0sticks
@man0sticks 7 ай бұрын
Don’t understand your question. Which note are you calling a flat 2? He plays a basic root position E major triad LH, and the melody is just a descending A minor scale (harmonic minor).

I think your answer actually helped clarify my misunderstanding. I thought the F was a flat 2 in the E7 but it’s a descending A minor scale. Thank you!

If you can play scales and chords then sounds like you have a good foundation. Don't give up, you'll get there!
