Scottie! Another great project and tutorial video! I am still wrapping my brain around this technique and that random squiggles are good things, not mistakes. Lol. Thanks CJ! Yea you can get some cheap watercolour sets in officeworks that actually work really well if you just want to test watercolour out. ‘Koh-I-Noor’ in those black round plastic discs which are pretty good for super beginners 😊

One of the reasons I've shyed away from urban sketching is the boring "real life" color palette. You tend to use much brighter, not necessarily realistic, colors and I LOVE it!! How do you decide the more vibrant color palette?

Glad you liked the colors! I just try and keep the watercolors really light so you can still see the line work. With the violet shadows it just happens nicely! 😊

Great tutorial thankyou! I'm trying to work my way through all your tutorials, as I've only recently 'discovered' you. I think your technique is 'less is more'. I need to learn this, as I usually overdo the watercolour. Just one question... why were you using a waterbrush, without using it as a waterbrush? (i.e. you used a pot of water, rather than the reservoir in the brush) 🤔

that’s great! with the water brush, Yes if I was outdoors I won’t be using a jar of water. I would just brush it on a paper towel. It just saved water. I don’t actually use it anymore in tutorials but I used to like it because I could squeeze the pen and add water as I stroked the watercolor on the paper. Now I have better quality brushes that hold more water so I stopped using the water brush pen.

Sometimes I choose a subject, and then I discover that it is way too hard for me. If you are looking for viewer suggestions, I propose a tutorial about choosing subjects and evaluating what makes them tricky.

thanks, no, I haven’t tried any of the watercolour pens, but they sound interesting
