Easy Mixed Media Art: Textured Backgrounds

In this video, I show two methods for creating textured backgrounds using old paper and ephemera. I also discuss my thought process for the reasons behind choosing certain materials. I hope it gets you thinking about your own art and the choices you make in creating.

I keep my paper towels that I’ve done like you did and use them in my collages as well… great tutorial

Thanks, Pam! I got some great ideas from both types of backgrounds. I like the idea of laying down a textural structure like that. It will help me use up more of the stuff I am constantly collecting LOL. Thrift stores, teacher discards, free boxes...how is a person supposed to resist??? 😂 Funny you mentioned text in other languages, I bought a few magazines at the thrift store a while back because the pictures grabbed me...didn't notice until I got home that they were all in German. 😂 This is the power of art for me...I am typically (in career and in life) so word/language-communication focused, so for me to choose something and not even notice the words is a pretty miraculous thing in my world. Art-communication is becoming a language my brain can converse in...love it!

Oh Lianne, it's good to hear I am not alone in gathering all manner of ephemera-type stuff to use in my art. I agree it is hard to resist and unfortunately, I can't use everything but it is nice to have a variety to choose from.
