Thanks for a great tutorial! I’ve never quite seen lilacs done this way, but it makes sense. I have a lot of trouble with Canson XL though so will likely use my 100% cotton paper. I always feel like Canson is fighting me. I do love this flower though and miss it so much. I grew up in the northern climes where lilacs just made spring so special with their color and scent. Now I live in the southern climes. We don’t have lilacs here in Florida 😢

Ha, ha! I guess I like to do things differently! 😉😊 100% cotton is definitely a higher quality choice, so I’m glad that works better for you! (I tend to go through so much watercolor paper that the higher quality paper can tend to be a little rough on my pocket book, 🥲 so, Canson has become my fall back!) I think lilacs are among the BEST smelling flowers out there! I’m sorry to hear you no longer have them to brighten up your springtime. Thanks so much for watching Rita! I truly enjoyed your comment! Silly question what kind of watercolor paper? Mine is not spreading as yours does

That’s not a silly question at all! I’m glad you asked! ☺️ Look for paper that is at least 140 lb. I really like the Canson watercolor pads. They usually have sheets that tear out easily and they are not too expensive either. You can find them on Amazon if you type in “canson xl watercolor paper 140 lb.” (That is the paper I used for that particular painting too.)

I had my paper, paints and brushes all ready, after a long time of not painting at all, the only thing I sorely needed was some inspiration, and I found you! After two macular holes I am now visually impaired, so have been a bit scared to test my watercolour skills…🫣 You have no idea how much you helped me take a few faltering steps (on my paper😉) again today, and I have ended up with a painting I am very proud of, thank you SO much❣️
