This Pale Ale checks both of the brewing beer "easy" options: it's easy to make and easy to drink. Using four hops but in small amounts, this came out as a balanced and enjoyable Pale Ale.
Recipe for a 5 gallon batch:
9lbs 2-row American Pale Malt
1lbs Carapils
1lbs Caramel 10
0.5oz Magnum (60 mins)
0.5oz Cascade (10 mins)
0.5oz Eldorado (10 mins)
0.5oz Amarillo (0 mins)
Wyeast 1099 Whitbread Ale yeast
0.5oz Amarillo (dry hop)
0.5oz Eldorado (dry hop)
Mash @153F for 60 mins
60 minute boil following hop schedule

Never thought about pulling the gravity throughout the mash, I always just do it for an hour and then check to see if I got close or not. Also thanks for the suggestion of using Brewer's Friend so I don't have to chill the sample down before taking a reading. I learned 2 things today!

Putting your water additions in a smaller bottle and shaking vigorously before adding to the main kettle is a genius tip for getting them mixed in properly

Nice video as always. My favorite part::Your bartender at 3:30. It reminded me of years (and years) ago when our young son loved to pour Half and Half (some call it Black and Tan) for us. He was a master! Thanks again.

Great editing. First video I've ever watched on YT on brewing after I've discovered IPAs, admittedly succumbed to some, and proctored by an interest in self brewing a delicious citrus/mango hoppy delight. Cheers.

Looks like a great recipe. I would personally dry hop with a little more to give it some more hop aromatics. Just a personal preference thing.

Thanks for the video. Couple of questions: How much water you used for the mash? Your final volume? Fermentation temperature? Final ABV?

Great video! I was wondering, if I don't want to dry hop my beer, should I use more hop at the boiling or just simply skip the dry hop? :)
@TheHomebrewChallenge
@TheHomebrewChallenge 4 жыл бұрын
If you don’t want to dry hop try throwing those hops in at flame out. Or of course you could skip entirely.

Thanks. I don't recall doing anything special with water. Just some gypsum and calcium chloride to get the pH in optimal mashing range.

Hi guys, First of all, great Video :) Could someone tell me, what is the name of this small thing swimming in the fermentor? I saw it also in another video. Does it messure the gravity of the beer during the fermentation? Thanks in Advance :)

Hello. When did you start the dry hop and for how long ? 🇨🇦
@TheHomebrewChallenge
@TheHomebrewChallenge 5 жыл бұрын
I'll typically dry hop once fermentation starts to slow down but is not quite complete. So when you are a couple of points away from FG or bubbling has slowed. I leave the hops in the fermenter til I cold crash and rack to a keg.

how do you dry hop without letting oxygen inside?
@TheHomebrewChallenge
@TheHomebrewChallenge 4 жыл бұрын
My method. Add the hops just before fermentation finishes. So any oxygen introduced should be consumed as fermentation finishes up.
