You are right! A game changer. One point. I ran the script from a Putty SSH session. When I got to the part where I select software it said it could not open a desktop session. I started over using a VNC session and its command prompt feature and no problems from there. Before your script I could not get the Pi-3 to work with IC-7300. With your script - no problems. You must have spent a ton of time working on this. Thank you so much, 73.

thanks! You are correct that is won't work over a SSH connection. The menu that allows you to choose which apps you wish to install requires a display. This can either be a monitor connected to the pi or a VNC connection. Glad you got it all working with the 7300. 73, de KM4ACK

It's difficult to ignore your raspberry pi achievements, awesome work. I'm still hoping to see you connect to an HF Gateway with Pat winlink. I understand you like packet, but many people don't have that possibility. Any chance for one single video tutorial from start to finish, for PAT, your menu system, and connecting on HF? I haven't been able to get to stable PAT environment connecting to HF gateways. That's my weak point. A specific video on this would be really welcomed.
@KM4ACK

Thanks Julian. I like both ARDOP & packet and do roughly an equal amount of connections to both. I did a step by step video a while back on using ARDOP kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eL-BiLhq2puseqs.html but that was before I had written the menu system. The menu system has a great feature I think could really help you, Auto Pat. Auto Pat allows you to plug in parameters for band and distance and then automatically attempts connections to ARDOP gateways that meet those parameters. If it completes a successful connection, it will write the results to a log file so you know which station to add to your alias list. 73, de KM4ACK

Thank you so much for not only streamlining the installation, but also for explaining (and simplifying) its configuration! I tried the AmRRON scripts and felt that they left a lot unexplained and un-configured (and then, even after I ended up watching all of your Pi install videos to configure the apps that AmRRON scripts installed, I wasn't confident that my setup was configured properly). After giving up on AmRRON, I ended up re-doing my Pi install from scratch and just following your Pi install vids from start to finish again anyway. This is auto-install script is such a welcome addition to the whole process. Thank you also for addressing Pat's 'unable to get frequency from rig' error (15:05). I had been scratching my head over that since my initial AmRRON install attempt. Your attention to detail and attention to addressing possible errors that users might experience is much appreciated! 73 de KI7POL

Jason, many thanks for taking the time to script this out. I have it running on a Pi3b+, and have also tried it on a Pi2b. Rig is 857, USB sound card (not using a SoundLink nor RIGblaster), and USB Cat. One issue that I have (with both Pi units), is with PTT for "Packet" (I have not tried other modes). If I start manually ([rigctld -m 4] + [sudo direwolf -p -t 0] + [sudo kissattach /tmp/kisstnc wl2k]) each in separate tab, then my PTT works when called for. (Also to mention, that it took picking the PTT Port /Cat cable and the box checked for RTS in Flrig.) If I run #3 (Start Packet) from Pat Menu, then PTT doesn't activate. Settings in files, when it works manually, are as follows: patmenu/config file: RIGCONTROL=yes and RIG="/usr/local/bin/rigctl -m 4" (I've tried RIG="/usr/local/bin/rigctl -m 122 -r /dev/ttyUSB0 -s 4800" and get [set_mode: error = Invalid parameter].) direwolf.conf file: PTT RIG 122 /dev/ttyUSB0 (I've tried PTT RIG 2 localhost:4532, PTT RIG 4, PTT RIG 4 /dev/ttyUSB0, PTT /dev/ttyUSB0, all with/without RTS DTR in the direwolf.conf file. I get [File exists] then no joy.) Any idea what I'm missing, or what I have messed up?? Thanks in advance, and 73! K9CHU
@KM4ACK
@KM4ACK 4 жыл бұрын
take a look at the pat menu config file (~/patmenu/config) You can change the way packet is started from within that config file. Then that data is pulled into the patmenu scripts as variables. If you are familiar with bash scripts, take a look at start-pat-2m in the ~/patmenu folder. This is the script that is doing the work. 73, de KM4ACK

Helpful hint. Under the current Buster release, WiFi power management is enabled by default, which will cause the Pi to turn off WiFi after a certain amount of time...which, in turn, means if you're trying to use your headless Pi under VNC, you won't be able to connect to it. The workaround is to edit /etc/rc.local to include this line just before the "exit 0" statement: iwconfig wlan0 power off

The information with the call, UTC and local times, gridsquare, etc that was displayed on the right side of the desktop does not display on the new page under my call or the desktop of pi, either, now.
