how to prepare dried flowers:
• How to Prepare Dried F...
DIY silicone molds:
• Two Component Silicone...
Hi guys! I have had this epoxy resin at home for 7 years! I was surprised, that it was still crystal clear even after such long storage. I finally made some molds and prepared the dried flowers, so I can use the resin. It is really easy and fun, it takes almost no time and the pendants look so beautiful. I was surprised, that the resin had very little air bubbles trapped inside and it was really easy to file and buff. Lastly I applied a clear topcoat only to the upper side of the pendants, I left the backsides matt.
Try these yourself, you will be amazed, how easy it is!
Products used:
- molds for resin
- grease for molds (vaseline or cuticle oil will do as well)
- resin (any type, I used epoxy resin, type this into your searching engine and find the nearest place, which sells the resin)
- clear top coat
- nail files

I would not recommend letting children work with 2 part epoxy resin as its accidental ingestion may cause serious health issues, not to mention that it can make a huge stickz mess too. Always watch your kids

Some FAQ, since I'm getting the same questions (if you want me to answer your question, write your question in either English or German) : 1. The flowers have to be DRIED, otherwise they'll lose colour and dye the resin 2. The curing time of each kind of resin differs, always read manufacturers instructions 3. You can make dried flowers yourself very easily, I uploaded also a tutorial, the link is in the description box 4. Diffetent kinds of resin might need mold releasers (this depends also on the material of the mold). Silicone molds for resin or chocolate candies work without mold releasers

Hello, yes you can use such flower, but you need to adjust the mold for the resin a bit. My mold here are pretty shallow, so if you have something like a dried up rose, you should use a bigger mold for that.

Thank you for your tutorial! :-) I am a bit confused however. If you have to pour half the resin first, and wait for it to cure before adding the 2nd half, how do you keep the 2nd half from hardening before you can use it?... Thank you!

Does anyone know if UV resin would work equally as well? (Or even produce a similar result?) I've never really worked with resin before, but I'm very intrigued. I've got some UV resin coming soon (waiting for it to be delivered) but so far I've only seen videos of it, never actually used it or any other resin

Lauren Cheerio It should work with UV resin too. Make sure, that the UV resin does not create heat while curing, it could damage the dried flowers.

I use epoxy resin and dry flowers but after 2 weeks my flowers/plants start to turn rusty/brown. Do I have to use a protective layer of something to make the flowers last? I don't mind if the colors are not as vibrant as before...but they turn dark brown after a few weeks and I don't know what I'm doing wrong...I tried using UV resin , different flowers still they turn brown ! And yes, the flowers are completely dry , I use the fast microwave method to preserve the vibrant colors and then press them between tissue paper in a book for 3 more weeks. I tried drying them in silica gel for 2-3 weeks, same result. I tried different resin brand and the same result. I used dried flowers that were pressed for one entire year. The petals were very thin and in resin they turned translucent. After a few more weeks brown spots appeared on it. I feel like I'm skipping an important step and can't seem to be able to figure it out.

Huh, I really don't know, what the issue could be here. The flowers are definitely prepared well, so it must be the resin. Maybe you are using a bigger amount of epoxy than needed. Peter Brown channel here uploaded a video with dried rise in a resin just recently abd he figured, that in he used too much resin in the initial attempt. Even epoxy has some very light exothermic reaction when you put a big volume at once. Maybe you should try to pour one half of the resin, let it cure halfway, put the flower in and them pour the other half. Some epoxy resins must be protected from the sun for few days after curing. Some epoxy resins tend to turn yellow when you don't mix them well (pour both resin and hardener into one dish, mix, pour into a second dish, mix, let bubbles rise and pour).

Hello, I have a question and maybe you can answer me. I've been making some resin parts .. I tried with some green flowers / foliage. All were yellowing .. would you know any technique to '' keep '' their original color?
@prettydiydesigns-artisticg4286
@prettydiydesigns-artisticg4286 6 жыл бұрын
Shayda Cazaubon did you use fresh flowers (not dried or pressed)? The natural pigments of the flowers may have reacted with the resin, maybe you could use dries flowers or use a different brand or kind of resin
@ShaCazaubon
@ShaCazaubon 6 жыл бұрын
I picked the flowers and minutes later I placed them in the resin to make the pieces. What process do you use? Do you pass any material on them before putting them in the resin?
@ShaCazaubon

The tiny green foliage then turned yellow. And the flowers were losing the pigment as the days went by.
@prettydiydesigns-artisticg4286
@prettydiydesigns-artisticg4286 6 жыл бұрын
Shayda Cazaubon i put a link to a pressed dried flowers tutorial in the description box, it is simple, but takes time for the flowers to completely dry...there is also another method, place the flowers between two sheets of baking paper and press them flat with an iron on the lowest setting
@prettydiydesigns-artisticg4286
@prettydiydesigns-artisticg4286 6 жыл бұрын
Shayda Cazaubon the drying process conserves the pigments in the leaves, so the reaction between the pigment and the resin is the problem ☺

Lolita you can drill the hole and attach through a hole, or use a special glue and glue it. Or purchase molds especially for resin pendants, they have little "spikes", which leave a hole in the resin.

nahuel guzman it seems that you used a different kind of resin, not a craft type. Craft resin has much more "open time" (when it is still not cured and you can add stuff) than a non craft resin. Craft resin has also a reduced smell, it smells only, when I pour the components from the bottle
