I liked this video and found it really interesting. I have heard a lot of these words before but you included some other contexts that is super useful. Your English is fantastic and you can tell that you learned it in the UK because your accent sounds so British. One thing to know that slang is always singular. We don't say "slangs".

I’ve been studying Portuguese for 9 years now and I’ve visited Brasil 18 times but I still can’t read or converse yet and I have to translate everything into English to understand. It’s terrible because I haven’t had a conversation yet and can’t understand my girlfriend even though we’ve been practicing every day for 6 years now.

@@patfromamboy And then there are people who can converse after less than a year. I can read some basic sentences and translate. I can understand all the material I’ve studied so far, but my problem is I don’t have anyone to practice with. I’ve given up a few times because of various reasons (hurricanes, Covid, life), but keep trying. I may be like you and never be able to gain fluency, but I think I can get to a point of being able to do basic things like order food at a restaurant or some basic travel knowledge. One of my “role models” is Gavin Roy. He learned Portuguese because he went to the World Cup when it was in Brazil. A Brazilian talk show had him on and he held a conversation in Portuguese. He started teaching Brazilians English. So jealous of his ability.

@@EricT3769 I started a month after the World Cup in August 2014 in Brasil but I still haven’t had a conversation yet. It’s frustrating. My son can converse and he’s never studied Portuguese. I can’t translate fast enough or understand what I hear and remember it while translating. It seems like many people can understand Portuguese words when they hear them without translating. Thanks

E ai! Thanks Maithe for a great lesson 😊 I really enjoyed learning from you. I liked the pace of your video and the examples. I've just finished watching The Circle Brazil on Netflix and fell in love with the language/accent. Have you watched it? I noticed they said 'cara' a lot actually! I'm in Australia and today we came out of a hard lockdown which lasted almost 4 months. Yayyyy. How's things for you?

Hi Ellissa! Thanks again for your comment, I love hearing back from people that watch my videos. I still haven't watched the circle Brazil but now I feel like it haha I'm happy to know that you fancy learning a bit of Portuguese, I hope my videos are helping you out. I've always wanted to visit Australia, it's on my bucket list! I spent a long time quarantined in Brazil at my parents farm (where I recorded this video), but I got a job in New Yor City and I'm living here since April. Life here is pretty much back to normal as most people are vaccinated and all bars/restaurants are very strict and only let vaccinated people in! I hope you're enjoying having your "freedom" back. I've heard Australia did an awesome job containing the spread of covid, well done you guys!

Valeu virou Tamo junto E Ai virou Qual é "coé" Ta bom virou Fechou Beleza virou é nois Cara virou menor, maluco, """"c#z@o"""" Gata/Gato virou novinha ... Claro que ainda existem casos onde essas expressões ainda são usadas, mas elas meio que não são mais "girias" porque se tornaram padrão da lingua.

Although sometimes we say "cara" when speaking to a woman, it's more of a exclamation, like "cara?!!" Like affirming or being shocked by something. e.g: "Cara, você não vai acreditar!!!" (You are not going to believe this!!!!), here the word "cara" is more of a supportive word for an exclamation that could or could not be used, saying just "Você não vai acreditar!!" Is also valid! 😅 If that isn't clear yet, just send me a message in this comment section, so I can try to explain it in a more specific way ☺️

Rapaz and Moço is like "young men" , commonly used to refer to a young adult (male) or someone younger. Is an informal way. But Moço is also used to talk with a stranger (thats is not elderly), example: There is a man selling popsicles (or whatever), and you want to know how much it is, so you can approach and ask: "Moço, quanto custa o picolé?". FYI: "Moça" is the female version of Rapaz and Moço. The pronunciation of Moça is like "mossa"

I’ve never used any of these even though I’ve been studying Portuguese for 9 years now and I’ve visited Brasil 18 times. I practice every day with my girlfriend who only speaks Portuguese and we’ve been practicing for 6 years now. My ex girlfriend spoke Portuguese and lives in Brasil. She spoke English with me because I couldn’t understand Portuguese. It’s very frustrating. I can’t read or converse yet.

Brazilian+ a tad of British accent. That's cute... and I personally think British is annoying lol. But Brazilians makes everything better 😍

@@POLSKAdoBOJU yes this is a very common language problem. Asking a question in a NON live situation is unintelligent. Instead use a greeting such as : hello, welcome to my video, thanks for your viewing etc

Not you roasting on her for no reason?? Her english is awesome! Also, the important thing to a language is not speaking everything perfectly, it's to be able to speak, and someone understand you, *THE COMMUNICATION* is the important thing, not the accent or some other superficial thing.
