WARNING! Do not remove plastic surround. Removing this will make the hand needles move and fall off whilst removing battery and now I'm left with both watch hands fallen off making it impossible to put back on again. What was initially cheap and easy fix has now cost me alot. Hope you read this comment first before making same mistake as me.

I used a wooden ladle to close it. Put the watch (glass down) on the carpet. Put the handle of the ladle on it and press with your full weight on both ends. Worked for me in a few seconds!

For everyone of you who can't put the back together. Don't try your thumbs, it just doesn't work and you risk breaking the glass. Instead, you should put it face down on a thick piece of cloth on a table, and push it with a the rubber handle from something (pliers worked for me) - and just push away. Hold it in with your fingers towards the watch stem, then push it with the rubber handle on the side where you previously put the knife to open it.

I got the cover to close back up. For anyone that wants to keep their thumbs, you can try plier or vise-grip type tools. Make sure to use a block or other materials between the tool and the watch to prevent damage to the watch.

Thanks for the video - wonderfull without irritating music. I appreciate amateurs repairing their stuff - I do the same, but have a few comments to your procedures. 1) Newer use a (rusty) kitchen or pocket knife to open your watch. Big risk of scratching, the blade is far too thick. Buy a back deckel opener, cheap on the web. Prefer the narrow ones, they can lift the back easily. 2) Easiest way to remove old cell is to pinch it out with a pointet big needle. Observe direction, not to bend the tiny lock. 3) Don't touch the new cell with your fingers. Sweat and salts might move to the insulating area and make a leakage of current, depleating the cell prematurely. Wipe it with alcohol cloth / tissue before installing it with a tweezer. 4) Good to clean the contact area with a cotton swap as you do (a little alcohol (or Vodka) will do), and then apply a THIN coat of silicon grease to the rubber sealing to ease closing the back and maintain water repellency. Off course a damaged o-ring need replacement. 5) Place the watch with the glass facing a rubber mat, silicone mat, or just a simple piece of carton. Place the back on top of the watch. Find a piece of somthing flat to put on top of the cover. I use a thin piece of wood. Press the back onto the watch. If difficult, LIGHT tapping with a small hammer on top of the wood block can help, but be sure it is not tilted. (my next tool will be a watch back press). 6) Most cheap cells are alcaline. Cheap but not the worlds best, if possibly buy a silver-oxide cell. They have longer lifetime, longer shelf life and a more flat decharging curve compared to the alcaline ones. I applied some grease before assembling the back piece and then used pliers (with the soft end against a table) and it popped in right away. I had huge problems before applying the grease, went at it for at least 1 hour. Hope it helps!

Right guys, I coulkd not get the back on this watch for love nor money!, Its very very hard, someone on here(sorry I forgot where I saw your helpful post) advise this: Use a rolling pin, (UK) the thing you roll our pasty with. Put your watch on a hard firm surface protecting the glass face obviously. Line up the back with the winder cut out, roll over the back with the rolling pin Voila, worked for me.

Hi there, the hands fell off the face of the watch when I was doing this, any ideas on how to repair it?

Take the back off is easy. But putting it back on is another story. I had to bring it to a shop to put it back on ( special clamp tool). Still cheaper than getting the whole battery change done at the shop. Was quoted 30 for the batter change and 10 on top for the service fee. In this case I changed the battery for $2.50 and only the service fee to put back on the back.

I got the back cover back on mine by lightly applying vaseline to the edges of the watch interior with a qtip and then using the narrow edge of a wooden spoon to press it down.

Greetings! Thanks for the video. I went to a watchmaker for him to replace my Daniel Wellington's battery but he left a tiny scratch besides the battery section. Is it normal for something like that to happened in this kind of watches? Should I be angry or it is something to be expected?

To close the back, I used a used envelope, double wrapped around the watch and carefully used two pliers till it snapped into place

to anyone having troubles closing it: I put it on a thick carpet and stood on it. Try it with your big toe first and if this is not enough then with your heel and start to apply pressure gently. (Maybe hold on to a table and then let go slowly.) It worked for me. But please don´t blame me if anyones watch breaks. (I just feel like the metal should always give in before the glass breaks.)

to put the cap back on i used a piece of wood something like a jenga piece. put the watch glass down on the table and pushed with my whole body weight with the piece of wood on the cap.

i used *an* hammer, (thanks Jeremy Clarkson) and some wood to get the lid back on. Worked like magic

Oupsi, be careful that the plate with the battery doesn't lift even 1mm, the minute hand on mine has just fallen and is loose in the watch!... hahaha

No clue how this guy managed to do this. You likely won’t be able to snap the watch back together afterwards-way too difficult and you will risk denting the backing if you try too hard. That is what happened to me. I just had to go to a watch shop and they fixed it for me using a special tool.

I tried all of these until I watched a different video. Try this. Place a cloth on top of a table or countertop. Then place the watch facedown on the cloth. Take a quarter and place it on the back of the watch. Then take the handle of a wooden spoon and press down on top of the quarter. The quarter helps to make sure you are placing equal pressure on the backplate. This worked for me. I hope this helps! Why why why wouldn't they make the tool it comes with for switching bands small enough to fit under the clasp in the back? Cannot find a tool that will open this darn thing. It broke my utility knife.

Good video but maybe come up with a safer way to handle the watch and knife. I can imagine some unlucky person slicing their thumb with that manoeuvre

Never would imagine a simple looking watch like this would have a back cover that is bitch to put back. Managed to close the back cover by press it against an edge of a table after multiple tries. Nice looking watch but a very poorly designed back cover.
