Come along as Corie and I pick blueberries and make jam. We love to eat the blueberries that grow here in the Appalachian Mountains as we pick them off the bushes and we love to put them up for winter eating too!
Here's the simple recipe:
8 1/2 cups blueberries
3 cups sugar
4 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Place all ingredients in large sauce pot. Bring mixture to a boil while stirring. Reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes. While mixture cooks crush blueberries gently to your preference. Pour into hot jars and seal. Remember most jellies/jams take up to 48 hours to fully set up.

My sister canned blueberry jam last year. I baked some of hers _into_ my biscuits. It started me down a whole road of baking fruit preserves into my biscuits rather than spreading them on top afterward. What I like about it is some of it bubbles out and caramelizes and gives it a new taste and texture. I almost never make them plain any longer!

@@jadadpowers3098 prepare as usual, but just before before cutting them out, spread the preserves in a layer on top of the uncut dough (you may have to loosen the preserves by mixing in some lemon juice if too thick to spread easily). Do a letter fold and flatten again and then cut the biscuits. Hope you like!

Blueberries are one of my favourite fruits! I love to eat them by the handful! When I was growing up, we had rural cottage. Across the lake was a peninsula that could only be accessed by boat. It was always covered in blueberries in August! I think I ate more than I picked. Thank you Tipper and Corie!😊🇨🇦

My favorite jelly is muscadine. I live in Soddy Daisy TN. Right next to a creek and there's lots of muscadines here. I've also made elderberry jelly. So hard to gather those but when they are cooking they smell just like concord grapes which I have also made. It's great that your children are learning how to do all those things.

About 30 yrs. ago my wife's friends invited us (+ 3 kids🙂) to come and pick as many blueberries as we could free of charge near the end of season. Several long rows of giant bushes and literally every kitchen pan and container available we accepted. It was good fun and exciting for me as I had never seen such large cultivated plants, only ankle high wild plants where we actually had to allow bears their take from the car. In this case it was the farmer/rancher's horse as their house was a rental on his land. There were four horses as I recall,a mare and her grown foal, and two males. They were quite nice and tame and shared the bounty with us. I am a bit wary around horses especially larger males as I was once thrown/stripped off a horse spooked by a dog running through the bushes and brambles. I got hurt. And I used to help a friend care for his family horses/stalls and one very large male showed you who was boss and I refused to be in his proximity. Same here as the very large male kept seeking me out and pushed me away from picking and lightly biting me. It was funny to everyone including me. They had to remove him from the area just in case he became too aggressive. I felt out of place then as it was his home and I was intruding. But,we did fill every container to the brim and ate all the while picking.👍 🙂✌️❤

Four years back I picked 17 gallons of blueberries from 4 bushes. The next year 12, then 8. This year only 5. The berries are big, plump and sweet, but less each year. I’m sure it’s the heat and lack of rain. Neighbors who have farmed in this area their entire lives could not make a garden this year. Tomatoes, peas, corn just burned up. Most didn’t make any blueberries but say they have plenty of figs and muscadines. You all are truly blessed. Blueberry jam looks amazing and I’m making that chocolate blueberry candy.

We are thankful for each and every little drop of rain we have gotten. I just want to say that we love each and every one of you in the Appalachia region and our thoughts and prayers are with you all. My favorite topping and my favorite muffin is blueberry. Tipper, I think I have gained 20 lbs watching these Feasts videos that You make!!!! I won’t eat store bought jelly- only home made or none. Pear & Fig Preserves have been some of my favorites. I get home made jelly and about everything else from a farm in the East Hall area of Hall County GA. Jamore Farms and The Echols family started late 50’s or before as just getting by farm. Jimmy’s dad loved peaches and planted maybe 50 trees early 60’s and sold them at a roadside stand. Everyone said he wouldn’t make it because too far North, on North side of the freeze line. He kept planting many verities and over 1000 trees. Late 70’s, three springs in a row had late killing freeze, almost wiped him out but the bank went with another year- and he was blessed with bummer crop- paid all loans off and started planting all fruit trees. He and children became one of the first Agri Businesses in the world. Farm to Family, pick your own, or eat what they cook and can, all vegetables, melons, pumpkin, apples, fried pies, cakes, one of the 1st corn Mazes. They have tourists in buses from all over the World. They are located on highway GA 365, almost in Habersham County, North of Gainesville, 15 mile. Blessings for Yall 🙏🏻

Blueberry is one of my favorites! I love it on dutch baby(oven pancake). Although different recipes, I make mine simple no pectin too. I even prefer it a little syrupy. Thanks again.

My mom would make jelly out of Sandhill plum. A small very tart plum which grew on Bushes in the sandhills. Some friends use to make wine out of it too that was fantastic. Dry but enough sugar to blend well. My grandma use to make jelly out of choke cherries too. A blueberry sized sour berry. I use to love it. Then the usual apple, Apricot, peach items. Apricot was difficult as it was difficult to have it get through spring without a freeze. Wish I was there to taste test for you! 😁😁 I'd do a very good job! Love Blueberry but really enjoy BlackBerry. Mmmmmm. God bless all here.

Every year, we would go up the hills and pick huckleberries (wild blueberries). They grow on smaller bushes, some not much more than knee high. It would take half the day to fill a bucket, but we had canned, jelly, and jam for almost a year.

My grandma made black raspberry jelly, I always thought it was black berry. But my sister makes jam too and she knew it was black raspberry and she sent me a jar and it tastes just like my Grandma’s. Strawberry too. 🥰.

My mouth was watering the entire video! lol I want to try these recipes (the jam & the candy), you guys make it look so easy and fun. Thank you for sharing with us! 🫐😊🍫 My Mama made plum jelly when we were young, our favorite with warm, freshly buttered, buttermilk biscuits! She also, on occasion, would make jelly from muscadine grapes. We rarely had it, but we LOVED that too! 🍇

Blackberries are my favorite. I make a really good blackberry cake . I have used strawberries or raspberries too. The cake is from scratch and has blackberries in it. The icing has a homemade blackberry syrup in it and it turns a beautiful lavender color . When I was a kids many years ago making money picking blackberries. My mother made the best cobbler I have ever eaten.

Yumm! I love anything blueberry! I got some jam from the produce market....my son has blueberry bushes and they have done pretty good....blueberries are so very good for you also ! These micro climates we have in here in the mountains are like that, one side of the hill/mountain not touched by frost, the other side a killing frost , and especially from the top to the bottom, fruit orchards experience this alot , orchard on one side of the road not touched , the other side of the road all the blooms killed....thanks tipper ,appreciate y'all....God bless

Late frost took most of our blueberries this year as well. My favorite jelly is Muscadine jelly, another one tied to family memories, from roaming the the creek banks hunting for the wild fruit and climbing the trees to shake them down for my aunt and grandmother, to then picking them at my dads house where he trained some on a trellis he made for the wild ones growing there. My aunt taught me to cut the wild twang flavor with a few apples added to the mix. I also make muscadine kompot, a mixed fruit juice I can every year from mixing whatever fruit is on hand to mix with the muscadines, stewing, straining and then canning the juice for a taste of summer come winter. My husband and I really enjoy your videos.

My wife and I made some blueberry preserves on year and it was delicious. One batch was a little runny so we put it in the fridge and use it for topping on French Toast. Larrapin'! Our favorite preserves is strawberry-rhubarb. Gail doesn't like rhubarb because of the slimy texture. However, she loves the flavor of that in jelly. She overcame the texture issue by cooking 2 cups of diced rhubarb with one cup of sugar in a separate pan till it's soft. She then puts that into a food processor and liquefies it. The recipe calls for five cups of fruit, three cups strawberries and two of rhubarb. Deduct the 1cup of sugar from the total batch's 7 cups. Our granddaughter went to Kindergarten with a peanut butter sandwich and it didn't have (grandma Gail's) Gigi's jelly on it. She took one bite and put it back in her lunchbox. That little stinker has good taste and high standards. Memories of great family time are the dearest to our hearts as we get older. Love to you guys.

My all time favorite is blackberry, with seeds or without. Last Saturday I bought a jar of Cowboy Candy Jelly, and I must say I’m in love with it. It has tiny strips of red hot peppers and jalapeños without the seeds. I can’t take it too hot, but this was perfect. Nice that you and Corie can makes these memories. Do you water bath the jams and jellies?

That sounds good Judy-Matt would like it! I do not water bath mine, that's the way Granny taught me 😀 But you certainly could for 5 to 10 minutes 😀

It amazes me how big your blueberries are down there. Up here are blueberries are smaller and the bushes only grow 3 feet tall at the most. I picked A nuff for 4 pies. I'm going out again today. Thanks for sharing your video's take CARE.
