That's Ruby Dee as the "good girl" who gives cleancut Corporal Baker the clap. As the army doctor (Wendell Corey) tells the poor soul, "You had a dirty woman!" I don't think she put this film on her resume.

What's a pro station
@RonJohn636 жыл бұрын
A station (fancy word for "place") where you pick up prophylactics.
@IratePuffin5 жыл бұрын
A prophylactic station. It was a place where the soldiers went *after* they had sex to, with the help of a doctor, wash their genitals with soap and several chemicals, including mercury chloride. There was another chemical that the doctor would literally squirt into the urethra using a syringe. It’s what they called chemical prophylaxis. Like at 14:47. The soldier would sit at a special sink that had grooves in the front for the upper thighs to rest so that the genitals could hang over the sink. The men used the chemicals in several steps and applied it to their entire groin and stomach. Soldiers were also issued a “pro-kit” which was a personal kit which included an ointment. This was important because one had to have the chemical prophylaxis within two hours of having sex.

Kitchen police?? When I had to do KP it meant “kitchen patrol.” Basically it meant you had to work in the kitchen of the chow hall. It’s not very fun. Lol I was amazed at the amount of milk a chow hall goes through in a day! Anyway, KP involves cooking, serving food, washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen, and at the end of it all if you’re unlucky, stripping and polishing the entire chow hall floor. My boots never got shiny again after doing that.

Stay away fro women?! Idk..... but I'm gonna guess homosexuality wasn't a lifestyle choice then either, & I can imagine seeing death daily, on furlough a thousand miles from home, I can picture both average women who, after a few dead buddy stories & "where we're headed, only half MAY come back.......I've never kissed a woman before. Hell, that used to be what I pictured for myself when I was 14- settling down & having a family, being someone's husband- now I wonder if I'll wake up tomorrow, nevermind where I might be in a week!" & being similarly unsure of a future herself, that girl giving in to wanting to feel alive RIGHT NOW, just as I can picture those "whores" being the only breadwinner w/ Dad & bros gone & bombs falling, so I DISAGREE STRONGLY w/ the use of "pick up girl, whore, stay AWAY from women!" as the Army sharing all they really knew about "VD", & think they figured blaming those "whore" women was an easy out!!
@pennypay16 жыл бұрын
Openly gay men weren't allowed in the military back then, which you surely know despite being young. Therefore, the military didn't deem it necessary to bring up sodomy, or butt stuff, or whatever you want to call it. Of course a percentage of the soldiers were secretly gay, and I pity them because they had few people to turn to in regards to their sexual health. And if they were habitually the receptive partner, or bottom, in gay sex, they had even more to lose due to being asymptomatic much of the time if they caught a disease.
@pennypay16 жыл бұрын
Also, no one is calling for a witch hunt on prostitutes in these VD films. They know that some soldiers will spend time with pros, and that if they're going to engage in high risk behavior they'd better take preventative measures for their health. Don't even start with the 'slut-shaming'. If I'm known as a regular in a pick-up joint or around town, I can hardly expect a man to invest in a long-term relationship with me.

I've seen this film uploaded before, and read a fair number of comments about the black soldiers (in the then-segregated outfits) getting a film with more frank narration and explicit images of genitals. There seemed to be this implication that blacks were treated as though they would be 'used to', or less fazed by, production without delicacy. In my opinion, they had the advantage. They ended up getting clearer information that removed any doubts about symptoms or the correct way to do prophylaxis.
@widowrumstrypze9705 Жыл бұрын
*prophylactics, but yes, I agree.

@@widowrumstrypze9705 Prophylactics are condoms; prophylaxis is the term the military used to refer to the washing-and-ointment application process after possible exposure to germs. The US military started integration a year later. It was substantially ahead of the rest of US society in doing so at that point - and now, for that matter. So yes, in the film made for the black soldiers, it shows black soldiers. The film made for the white soldiers shows white soldiers. You'd prefer they made a film that didn't reflect the realities of the organization *at that time*?
