This is the first in my new series of easy step by step watercolor paintings for beginner artists. I have been painting and teaching watercolor for 25 years and can safely say that the most important skills to develop as a watercolor artist are the basics.
My PATREON MEMBERSHIP PAGE: www.patreon.com/user/membersh... - in addition to ad-free content you get exclusive content (new videos will be more in depth than those on my KZfaq channel), hi-resolution reference photos, photos of my finished painting, and drawing outlines where available. Other benefits are also included.
My teaching manual: Mastering Watercolors - A Practical Guide: amzn.to/3ZF2FRW
This will be a good series for anyone who has completed my free
Watercolor Class One course on KZfaq and do the exercises in each.
These exercises are what I used to put my beginner face-to-face students through, before allowing them to progress to more advanced subjects. Even now, before a student, new to watercolor, can join my online class they have to first prove they have studied and applied this beginner lessons. In this way, new students are able to more easily join my more advanced classes.
I also have a couple of watercolor painting books which I published and distribute through Amazon.
The first one, which has sold over 10,000 copies is bascially my teaching manual and is titled:
Mastering Watercolors - A Practical Guide.
The second is full of step-by-step demonstrations and is titled: Watercolor Step By Step: amzn.to/3z4YXEu
Both books are available in kindle format and paperback.
You can also find a lot of useful information on my website: www.paintingwithwatercolors.com/

So many videos do not tell you when the paint is allowed to dry before going on to the next step. For a beginner I need to know this. Your tips and explanations are excellent. I like the fact that it is in real time. I haven't tried this yet but decided to watch the entire video first. Thank you.

Thanks Joe. Your "simple" exercises are great reminder of the beauty of NOT overworking paintings. Now I have some playing with paint to do.

Very good instruction! I particularly liked how you pointed out the land- being horizontal - will be lighter/brighter than the hill / mountains - which are vertical. Horizontal objects will tend to get more light from the sky than vertical objects. That makes so much sense! Thank you! I will send this tutorial to my sisters - budding watercolor artists. They will really get a lot out of the way you that you show the water/paint ratio and how much paint to leave in your brush, the sizes of the brushes - which vary a lot, etc. Thank you and have a great day, Joe. So kind of you to take time to teach us how to paint so effortlessly. - Now, as for me, I will have a go at this myself. :) I can't wait...

Really enjoying all your videos and straightforward step by step instruction. I like your palette with big spaces to mix colours and the deep wells, can you tell me where I can get one similar?

Glad you are enjoying my videos. I designed the palette myself and printed it on a 3D printer, I do sell them. The price is $60 Australian plus postage. They take a few days to produce.

Always softly dry your brush when you finish painting and make sure it dries with a point to help it last longer.
