Agreed! And this one doesn't require changing out parts. It's something most people are scared of, but is actually one of the easiest to diagnose. (usually)

Haha I have the same problem with my Sidekick, I have been thinking it’s probably the aftermarket stereo the previous owner installed, I’m definitely going to look into this more. Thanks for the video 👍

Buddy of mine had this problem and couldn't figure it out so he bought a harbor freight solar panel with the 12v end and it trickle charges your battery. Or a positive terminal on/off? Obviously fixing the issue and finding the problem is the best solution but these are some hillbilly fixes. Great videos again man. I hate mice I am going to setup some traps inside mine just in case

I had someone tell yesterday me that simple green is really good at keeping mice away and to just mist some where they might nest and on the wiring a couple times a year and they’ll stay away. It actually sounds like it might work. I’m going to try it.

It’s an aftermarket from the 90’s, so I assume it’s just a diode or maybe the internal battery shorted. I’ll probably just swap it with another if I can find where I put my box of stereo crap. I think I actually have the same exact one.

My tracker had the same issue. PO switched the remote and power.

It happens. This one had something wrong with it. But I just so happened to have an almost identical one because I’m a pack rat. 😂

Liquid electrical tape to repair rodent tooth marks... brush on two to three coats.

So I just connected my tester and it’s a solid light. Does that mean something is still pulling energy from the battery?

yes. If you hooked it up like I did and it's lit up something is draining it. I start by disconnecting the stereo. If that doesn't turn it off, next is the alternator, if that's not it, your just going to have to start pulling fuses until it goes out and figure out what that fuse is powering.

No idea why everyone thinks you need a multimeter for this, an old fashioned test light (not led) is fine.

It's unclear from the video exactly how you hooked up the test light. It looks like the battery positive cable is still hooked to the battery, and the test light is hooked between the battery and the negative cable?

You can do it either way. I find it’s easier on the negative side and you don’t have to worry about the loose positive cable accidentally touching the body and arcing. But either way the current will have to travel through the light which will cause it to light up if something is drawing

So if its lighted up fully it means its good? And if it flashes means u got a draw ..correct? Ive been havin thus issue and have gone tru 2 batteries 😂..time to fix it

It should be off. If it’s lighted it means something is drawing. If it’s flashing, then that might make it easier to find, but something is doing that.

It's a very easy task to at least figure out what it is. Hopefully the fix is easy too....

@@DeathTollRacing I knew about the test light and elimination process but I did not know about the blinking being a capacitor and don't think I would have considered checking the alternator. Thanks a lot, very helpful info. Maybe that will be tomorrow's project, it would be nice to stop disconnecting the battery all the time.

PS I need to get a CUCV. I've always liked those, and have had disturbingly good luck with 6.2 diesels.

@@DeathTollRacing i've had mine for over 10 years. Got it with 56k for $2300. Threw in a 700r4 monster transmission and a lockright in the front and have been loving it ever since. It still only has 85k on it. I wish it had more power (they are gutless, like 120hp and even less torque) but then the fuel prices jump up and I'm thankful for the 20mpg 1+ ton truck. I picked up a spare from a friend a couple of years ago that's just sitting in my pasture. Haven't needed anything off it yet.

@@sweet65mustang I think you’ve done well with it. Yes they are gutless. My orange blazer was originally a 6.2 and it was still running good at over 400k when I swapped in a ramjet 350 and a 5 speed. I miss the 6.2 at times.
