Explanation ❄ As the name suggests, loudspeaker buzz and hiss refers to the hum and hiss that can be heard from our loudspeakers. Before we have a chance to stop any kind of noise, we first need to define what it is.
Hum: Steady-state low-frequency noise (50 or 60 Hz) without significant harmonics that sounds like humming with closed lips, very similar to the low B-flat on a bass guitar.
Hiss: Similar to white noise, this is a steady-state sound, which sounds like rain on a roof or steam coming from a kettle. And many more.
Buzz: Another stable-sounding B-flat sound, which includes many higher-pitched harmonics. This usually happens when someone touches the end of the guitar cable while the guitar is plugged into a turned on guitar amp.
Hash: A pulsating, buzz-type sound that can sound like bacon frying. Sometimes it is in a stable state, while other times it will have periods of modulation, depending on the root cause.
