Hi, I was wondering what the measurements of the triangle should be when I'm sizing the inner circle down a bit to fit on my head. The diameter of my inner circle is 17 centimeters so I guess the base of the triangle should also be shorter than yours, right? 😅
@Nightskylullaby
@Nightskylullaby 4 жыл бұрын
What I always do is make sure the bottom of the triangle is the same length as your head measurment. the inner circle can be the same, or a little bit bigger. if it's bigger you can make little folds to make the brim a bit more flowy and give more shape to it.

@Nightskylullaby
@Nightskylullaby 4 жыл бұрын
I used 1.5 mm thick synthetic felt you can also find it as craft felt. I'm sure you can also use other types of felt too. the most important thing with picking out the fabric is that it isn't too thick. When it's too thin you can always add another layer for the brim.

If you want a bigger hat can you double the measurements? I want a really big brim for my hat but keep the inside the same. Will it mess up the hat as a whole?
@Nightskylullaby
@Nightskylullaby 5 жыл бұрын
If you don't change the measurments of the inner circle it's fine. :) You might want to add an extra layer of felt or interfacing if youre going to make a really big brim. Just to make it a bit stronger or it might flop in your face. ^-^
@freyaguppy
@freyaguppy 2 жыл бұрын
I’m in the middle of making this and the brim turned out great! I just have a question, in your sketch of the pattern, the triangle you drew looked kind of like an isosceles, but the one you cut out looked like a right triangle. Is the height of the triangle 50cm or was the hypotenuse (the diagonal edge) 50cm?
@Nightskylullaby
@Nightskylullaby 2 жыл бұрын
The pattern I made is an isosceles. I think it looks like an right triangle because of the angle of the camera. When you unfold the piece of fabric after cutting the pattern it will have a bit of a point in the middle of the bottom. of course it depends on the measurements but if you use the same as I did the height of the triangle will be 46 cm and the diagonal edge 50 cm. Hope I explained it well, English is my second language so explaining all the technical stuff can be a bit tricky. If not feel free to ask me more questions ^-^
@freyaguppy
@freyaguppy 2 жыл бұрын
@@Nightskylullaby thanks for the reply! I wish I had seen this before I decided to just go ahead with the project. I made it using a right triangle, which ended up being a bit wonky, but I was able to cut off the excess and sew it on and it turned out pretty good! I’m very happy with the result.

Just a question, I have kinda a big head... Do you think the measurements you gave will suit for my head?
@Nightskylullaby
@Nightskylullaby 2 жыл бұрын
The measurements I used fit most people. It also fits me when I am wearing a wig. If you're not sure you just have to measure the circumference of your head and calculate whats the radius. You need the radius to cut out the inner circle of the brim. the bottom of the piece you use for the top of the hat is the circumference of your head. Hope I explained it clear enough!

Late question, can I make the top longer? And the button of the top needs to be dubbel the length of the bottom part hole?
@Nightskylullaby
@Nightskylullaby 4 жыл бұрын
You can easily make the top longer, just keep in mind that you keep the bottom of the pattern the same. otherwise it won't fit the circle. for the bottom of the top part needs to be the same length as the inner circle of the brim for it to fit well. you can just measure around your head to get the right measurments.

I couldn't get the measurements you had right... could not figure it out, I normally work in inches and I converted your centimeters into inches (using the actual measurements I needed) but the measurements were off, so instead I restarted but this time used centimeters... and still for the love of GOD, I couldn't get it right.... so over this. 😤🤪

These measurments are for a L size and thats around 60 - 64 cm I believe. I made it this size to wear with a wig but if you dont, and your head size is smaller, you just have to devide your measurment by 2 and then thats the bottom of the triangle pattern. The diameter of the circle you cut out of the brim part is 1/3 of your measurment.
