When we just bought machine after 20+ cups and every setting possible we almost gave up ,the pressure wouldn’t come up to where it supposed to but finally tried to mess with burr grind dial to make it finer grind and it worked , perfect coffee every time

If this helps anyone in Canada, I had trouble getting into the expresso range on my Breville Barista until I used Canadian expresso coffee Kicking Horse Grizzly Claw coffee set on grind size 3 with a moderate/light tamp done. I hope this helps someone out there.

Try using freshly-roasted coffee (Verve Coffee Roasters Streetlevel espresso would be a good place to start), and don't use the single shot basket - only use the double shot. Rather than using the volume dosing for espresso brewing, get a small digital scale and brew manually with the button, brewing till you have around 25-35g out (assuming a ~17g dose). That will help your espresso brewing immensely. Good luck!

Hi, could you help me?, I´ve using the breville machine like 3 weeks for a restaurant, and 5 days ago the machine indicated "Clean me", but anyone know the procedure to clean it, so when I research how to clean it, I realized that it didnt work, and it seems like the grinder isnt placed correctly, but I check it, and it was. I dont know what to do, everything its placed correctly but it still doesnt work, what should I do??

Thanks for posting this video. I am a proud owner of this BES 870XL. It has worked flawlessly up until recently. Here is what's going on. I have found that setting the coarseness of my grind at the number 5 setting, my espressos have been coming out perfectly. Pulling the shots has been taking from between 25 seconds and 30 seconds with the pressure between 8.5 and 9.5 bars or well within the grey area. In fact I usually can keep the needle nearly dead center of the grey area the way I have everything set. Lately however, my shots have been barely coming out of the portafilter with the pressure shooting to about the second grey line outside the solid grey area on the pressure gauge. Naturally I decided to set the grind to a coarser setting and have gone all the way up to the number 9 setting with little or no noticeable difference. I then decided to do a lighter tamp which did help somewhat but only with the grind set at number 9. I then pulled the shower head out and made sure it was clean on the top and bottom sides. By the way, I am using filtered water, I regularly perform the back-flush procedure as needed as per the instructions, I replace the water filter every 2 months as per the instructions and I descale with white vinegar once per month as per the instructions. I am at a loss here. I understand ambient temperature and barometric pressure can make it necessary to adjust the grind but this all seems to have happened overnight. One would also expect that if this is weather related that the need to change the settings would fluctuate but I have had the grind set at number 9 now for a full week while doing a lighter tamp than I have been in the past. I have not changed the beans I am using either. By the way, I have just performed an advanced cleaning of the grind burs, grind fan and chute. That hasn't helped either. Could it be that for some reason my grinder just suddenly started to grind finer on it's own? Can anyone tell me what's going on here? Is this normal?

Hi Eric, sounds like the beginnings of mineral build up in the thermocoil. When was the last time you descaled your machine? You can try white vinegar diluted with water (2:1 for hard water) or a commercial descaling solution. Make sure to descale without the water tank filter in place and rinse thoroughly afterwards!

Hello, I am very interested in buying this coffee machine but after reading some comments I have the doubt. I read that after a few months the grinder fails or the coffee machine loses pressure in addition to the grinder being inaccurate. Your comment would be very helpful. It is a great purchase for me and I would bring it from a trip so I have to make sure it works correctly.

If I froth/heat/seam the milk first the machine sounds like it is going to shake itself apart when I then pull the espresso.

What were your course vs grind amount settings??? See, I can't get the pressure reading to the middle like that. A week I've owned this machine and no matter what, I can't get the needle to go past the pre-infusion stage...I have followed all the instructions from the manufacturer and how-to videos (I shouldn't have had to resort to that, this is coffee, not rocket science) and nothing. Having searched around a bit online, this seems to be a very common point of frustration with this machine, finding the sweet spot. Needless to say this $600 paperweight is going back to the store.

The freshness of the coffee plays into it too. Also, the amount of pressure you put into the tamping of the coffee. The filter size plays into it too.
