In case it's helpful, I'm from the UK and I've been learning Polish for around 2.5 years now. I can understand everything in these videos, watch movies, read books and speak about any topic (although I make lots of grammatical errors!). I'm terrible at writing though. I studied on average 4 hours a day, but that's only: Reading, Watching, Listening to Podcasts, Talking to Polish family members, and making flashcards (3-10 new words a day). Another 2-3 years and I feel like I'd be at a C2 level, but that's just a guess!

Sounds impressive! Congrats 💪 But of course we recommend practice writing as well 😉 Next time, just try to write any comments you leave on our channel in Polish (despite all the grammatical mistakes) - that's already a tiny bit of weekly practice if you start doing it regularly 🙂

I am from Spain and I've been studying Russian for years. Watching this video and some others I can tell that would help me because I managed to figure out the meaning of many words and sometimes even some random sentence. I love Polish literature very very much (and art in general, so much creativity over there!), and for some reason in many places I've lived I've known many Polish people with which I got along very well. But I always thought it would be way too hard to learn Polish, even more than Russian. Now I've decided to start learning, and this channel looks perfect (and encouraging). In general I like slavic cultures and languages, and although I was more into Russian, the crazy situation with that country made me look more towards Poland, mostly now that for me it is easier to travel and live there. The big variety of "atmospheres" and the nature of Poland is a big plus too. Thank you!

We lived with my grandparents until I was 5. My grandmother who was born in Poznań spoke to me in Polish..I answered her in English. We communicated well. I still remember many Polish words, and sometimes the Polish words for milk, bread, tea etc. pop into my head. I love Polish movies with subtitles to test myself.

I'm from Russia and I've never voted putin. I'm against this awful war, I'm in shame and l mourn. I also understand why people in Poland hate Russians, yet not everyone Russian wants war, and not everyone Russian condones everything Sovet Union made with Poles and Poland. I like Poland and I hope someday I'll speak fluently Polish!

@@user-ev1yi6jo9l the thing we hate is that Russia took our lands destorying our country for 123 years and never gave the lands back, and never said "sorry for that, Poland". It's one of the two countries that started the WW2 and never got punished for that, so the horrible imperial mentality survived. Of course, now on these lands there are Belarus, Ukraine and that's fine. But as you see - it's not fine for Russia. All we want is to feel safe but Russia does not want to accept this.

I'm curious how fast all the Ukrainian refugees are picking up the language? It's coming up on the 1 year anniversary of the invasion and I was thinking about this the other day. I guess it would be immersion learning since they would be interacting with Poles every day in their jobs and in public. That would probably make learning faster. Poland has done a great thing by taking in so many refugees and welcoming them so warmly during such a terrible time. Much love & respect from Seattle, Washington USA 👍 🇵🇱/🇺🇦/🇺🇸

I’m am American who’s been living in Poland with my husband for 15 months now. Here’s a brief overview of the language: - 3 genders (masculine, feminine, neuter) - 7 cases (nominative, accusative, genitive, instrumental, dative, locative, and vocative) - 3 tenses (past, present, future) - 2 aspects (perfect and imperfect) - 3 moods (indicative - statements, imperative - commands, and conditionals) It’s no wonder this is such a difficult, complicated, and yet beautiful language to learn. All of these factors are constantly rotating in your head as you speak the language, as you learn to think a different way (conveying a certain context to your listener) and always making sure the verbs and adjectives match the same gender as the noun. I’m nowhere near fluent but I’m happy I can at least now follow along with conversations.

I'd say the stereotype that she mentions about noun declensions being the most difficult part of Polish grammar is pretty correct. While there is a system behind the endings, it's a fairly complicated one, with a lot of things you just need to know. Also, beyond the cases, genders, and count, the endings also depend on how the word itself ends, so the endings multiply out even more. Saying "it's easy to learn" is just wrong. Something easy to learn in Polish grammar would be verb endings. Learning the noun endings is much more difficult than that. The only thing that might be harder than noun endings are verb forms for aspect, but that does not make learning noun endings easy.

First and biggest error in thinking. You're all speaking POLISH. People who want to learn Polish who just speak English or a non Slavic language are not impressed. Any Polish person can speak Polish. It's your audience of NON SPEAKING Polish that you are trying to reach. Plus, you do not learn a language in months, to speak well it takes YEARS. Anyone who speaks several languages knows this.
