This a reminder that languages are a very human things and with time you can learn anything. Dont worry about your level right now, just keep on listening EVERY DAY and STUDY what you dont know.... you will become fluent.. currently I am spanish major as a native english speaker and after 3 years of dedicated practice I feel very comfortable with the language and I almost don´t have to try to understand spanish, its like a reflex..The key is inundating yourself with spanish or whatever you want to learn.

So true. But immersion should be in subjects that are of interest - I have come across a channel about lost skills in Spain, and for the first time I actually look forward to watching videos and it matters less that I don't understand every word because I am absorbed in the context and so the brain-block that comes with frustration doesn't occur.

Sí, los español hablantes hablan muy rápido. Pero, para mí, es muy importante tener la oportunidad de escuchar la gente hablando más normal y más auténtico. Muchísimas gracias. Me gustan mucho los vídeos por la calle.

My biggest advice to understanding fast spanish, is shadowing and understanding spanish speakers chain words. Itll be typed as va a hacer but its pronounced as vaacer correct? Its because in spanish they chain words that start with the same letter or vowels together. When you do a lot of listening practice focusing on this i promise it'll help(if you're one of those whose learning a caribbean dialect you'll probably learn faster lmao)

Your channel has become my favourite for aiding me in learning Spanish. I knew from my own research that Spanish was the second most rapidly spoken language. (I wasn't surprised!) I enjoy your interviews with people on the street. You both speak clearly and at a rate easy to follow. If one of the persons you interview speaks very quickly at least I have the context and it's good practice. When Spanish speakers "swallow" words it can be confusing. I was watching a Mexican movie recently and heard what sounded like "sta-go" instead of hasta luego. :)

yes agree, but i found that learning from these videos make me much more getting use to the fast speed of spanish speaking, i keep listening over and over again for which i couldn't catch the words, and YES, the major difficulties for spanish learners is mainly because native speakers eat the words or some of the pononuciations doesn't even exist in the oral sensentce, for example i found that even Jose is now speaking very slow in this video, i still couldn't even catch the words from the subtitles showed, @ 6:57 "que te hayan dado el aleman", for me, no matter how many times i repeated, what i heard is "te yan da" el aleman, that's why if it's without subtitles, i'll never would connect these words referring to "te hayan dado", we're too focus on the grammar we learned, now i realized native speakers don't read it as what it is, it's not because of the speed, we have to get used to the way they speak, i believe it is, not sure if it's correct but still trying hard to train my brain to be more "spanish" hahaha, thanks and love the videos anyway~!

15:55 - ¡Ese truco de nuestro querido José es buenísimo! Y lo digo porque yo mismo he tenido oportunidad de comprobarlo en varias ocasiones y con diversos idiomas. Desde luego, como hispanohablante nativo, me resulta más efectivo si decido leer, por ejemplo, _"El otoño del patriarca"_ de García Márquez en catalán, rumano, ruso o sueco, que si lo hago en finlandés, turco, coreano o hebreo, pero incluso en idiomas muy distintos puede resultar útil, porque además tiene la ventaja adicional de que se trata de algo que no solo ya leíste, sino que además te gusta, te interesa.

Genial, gracias por este vídeo! Vivía unos meses en Las Palmas y al principio era muy feliz de oír una conversación en la calle en que podía entender una sola palabra. Después de seis meses era capaz de entender el contexto. Eso era un gran logro para mí! Y me ayudó entender de que necesito práctica, confianza y tiempo para mejorar. Yo personalmente no soy interesada en vídeos muy lentos, necesito escuchar a gente que habla de una manera natural, quiero aprender entender todo y realmente me encanta! It’s very true that when I hear a word I don’t understand, I stop listening to the rest of the sentence. Not on purpose but I’m trying to figure out what that word means, and meanwhile I miss out on other words. It’s a challenge but I am on the path to success anyway.

Yo trabajo como “Sales Assistant” en una empresa alemana y trabajo mucho con clientes hispanohablantes de Latinoamérica y España. Y de verdad me cuesta más trabajo entender a los Españoles que a los Mexicanos per ejemplo. Me parece que los Mexicanos hablan más relajadas y para personas que aprenden un idioma es mucho más agradable. Cuando vosotros habláis os entiendo perfectamente. Lo dificil para nosotros ingleses, en cuanto a aprender otros idiomas, es que hoy en dia todo el mundo habla ingles. A menudo la gente me responde en ingles cuando hablo español, y eso es una molestia para mi! Quiero que la gente de Europa supiera que cuando nosotros ingleses hablan español o otro lengua, tenemos ganas de practicar y mejorar nuestras destrezas. Nos faltan opportunidades de practicar nuevo lengua. La razon por la que no somos buenos en idiomas es que la gente siempre nos responden en ingles, y de verdad no tenemos ninguna necesidad de aprender otro lengua

That list you cited is empirical but to say Spanish is one of the fastest in the world is an overstatement. There are more than 7000 languages in the world and that study only took into account a few of the popular languages in developed countries (Japanese, Finnish, etc).

El problema no es la rapidez sino la falta de claridad. Mucha gente no pronuncia cuidadosamente. Se puede hablar muy rápido pero hay que pronunciar cada sílaba. En cualquier caso el inglés me parece más rápido que el español. Tuve que aprender ambos idiomas y el inglés era mucho más difícil en cuanto a entender a los hablantes nativos.

Even though Spanish seems fast, I think every language appears that way if you don’t really know it. Certain places in the U.S. speak so differently that we dont even understand each other sometimes lol. I’m from Jersey, and when I moved to Tampa I remember this guy saying a whole paragraphs worth of words to me, and when he was done I looked at him and said, “I have absolutely no clue what you just said” 😂. I say all this to say, just take it step by step my friends lol.

En cuanto al alemán, sí, es cierto que en las frases subordinadas o diferentes formas verbales colocamos el verbo al final, pero esto no significa que hace falta que la otra persona termine la frase. Internamente anticipamos como va a terminar máso menos. En caso contrario, el funcionamiento de la mente sería demasiado espeso. Si el alemán se habla considerablemente más lento es por el ductus de hablar. No se juntan tanto las palabras y la secuencia de varias consonantes seguidas, como se da más a menudo, frena la velocidad. El castellano es tán rápido porque como norma general alternan vocales y consonantes. ¡Toma una palabra como "metralleta" y mide lo rápido que se puede decir la palabra! "Maschinengewehr" tarda cuatro o cinco veces más.

Starting off, I of course knew on some level in the back of my mind that I was slow in comprehending spoken Spanish. But what *really* drove the fact home for me was hearing Pau ask a question to a young child, here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gseins-Zmtq4hJc.html. It was then that I fully appreciated where I stood: I couldn't even keep up with a three-year old!!! Al principio de mi aprendizaje, por supuesto, sabía que mi comprensión del español hablado era deficiente. Pero lo que realmente me hizo darme cuenta fue cuando oí a Pau hacer una pregunta a una niña pequeña. Ni siquiera podía seguir el ritmo de un niño de tres años! Fue entonces cuando me di cuenta de mi situación.

Tengo una teoría sobre la velocidad rápida de espanol: los hablantes tienen que apurar, porque la estructura de cada frase es tan complicado. Por ejemplo, en ingles, la frase "It's that John's wife is going to Mary's house" es, en espanol, mas larga: "Es que es la esposa de Juan está yendo a la casa de Maria."

Para mí cuanto antes me acostumbre a la lengua lo mejor es escuchar podcasts en vez de videos, porque algunos podcasts tiene la opción poner la velocidad a 0.9, 0.8, 0.7, etc, en vez de los videos en You Tube que tiene solo 0.75, 0.50 y 0.25. Así es possible aumentar gradualmente de velocidad, lo que hace mucho más facile aprender entender hablar a la vedlocidad normal. Pocket Casts tiene esa opción y lo recomiendo.

Aunque la lengua esta rapida, no es tanta. De hecho las lenguas parecen más rapida cuando no sepamos cómo hablarlos. Esto me llevaría a creer que realmente, aunque la lengua esta un poca rapida, los que estan aprendiendo no saben donde palabras empiezan y paran. Además español es una lengua con silabas bien marcado, y esto se hace parecer bien rapido pq cada siladba paras un hablante de inglés parece casi como una palabra. Mientras una lengua como frances tiene silabas super tenue que yo creo tal vez sea peor que las silabas sean bien marcado.... bien hecho con el video gracias.

My neighbour sounds like a machine gun going off when she speaks to me - in a weird castillano/galego dialect.....I have no chance of ever understanding her. I just nod and go on my way. 😂

Creo en las estadísticas que mencionaste) Pero todas estas naciones que hablan rápido son la norma. No me di cuenta que José habla rápido, o que los españoles hablan rápido, entonces esta velocidad es normal! al menos mi español es malo). pero hay gente que habla demasiado rápido. Creo que este defecto es lo mismo que la tartamudez, como las terminaciones al tragar (esto no depende de la velocidad, los que conozco que tienen este defecto hablan lento), la falta de pronunciación de las letras (creo que son diferentes en diferentes idiomas). y no está bien que esas personas no acudan a un logopeda. Evito a esas personas, conozco a varias, para mí comunicarme con ellas es estresante, tenso, cuando hablan creo que prefiero dejar de hablar, no está bien que no entiendan que esto es un gran inconveniente. No exagero!!! no puedo ser amigo de gente así, solo ve al cine donde no necesites hablar o te explotará el cerebro :)

Try getting people wherever you travel to do this🤪🤣😂 The secret is to learn to listen faster by reading in Spanish and listening to more Spanish.

Some english translations are not correct.they are not even small mistakes. One example "Cuando dicen qur es rapido ,estan en lo correcto" you or they? You transleted " when you say"

Awesome video, but it feels like the lady doesn't really speak naturally. She speaks in three word bursts and then pauses in between to try to "speak slowly". It's hard for me to understand because it's so unnatural. I understand what the guy is saying much more easily. Advice for future videos: speak naturally.
