Great video. I have a 2003 SL500, where the car was working great, perfect. Then we stopped driving it for about a month and put a battery tender on it and charged the back battery. Now the driving lights don't work the drivers side headlight and turn signal light stopped working, the switch in the ac dash area will not let the ac come back on it blinks for awhile then shuts ac off, the ESP light came on-visit workshop, that cleared up with turning the wheel back left and right a few times. My headlights come on as soon as the car is started even in manual mode without switch turned on. Everything near the dash is acting up since rear battery charge. Top works perfect, windows, car starts fine and runs great, just the above mentioned problems will not go away. Both batteries are at 12.8 volts and read 14.21 volts while running. What happened???? Can you help me troubleshoot this. Thanks you.

Thanks , I have a 05 E55 AMG , the light came on and exhibited everything you just showed us . I was struggling with changing out the whole alternator , your video gave me the knowledge to just change the regulator , your very nice video helped me make the decision to DIY ! I will be back on the road for 68.00 , Mercedes quoited 719.00 for a Bosch alt 😝 can be had for less than 300 $ Thanx for the great vid !

I drive e260 w211 2005, had this problem with random flickering headlights, interior lights blinking too (odometer, dashboard lights like ac buttons, and footrests lights flickering randomly after 10 min with engine running it's kinda gone (note: ac running but flicks too like turn off and turn on randomly) ) the next 4 days the car is completely dead, can't turn the key, car can't be unlock, the trunk needs manual unlock with key and all lights is dead (footrests, trunk, everything). is it possible the battery is leaking or losing power because electrical malfunctions? did some research said that need to change the battery because the battery acts as regulator that controls voltage spikes etc, but now the problem is the car is completely dead. what is the problem in this mate? thank you.

HiI get the consumers light and radio comes on for a second and shuts off (Also srs, esp). I have a alternator fairly new about 2 years old. Main battery at rest was about 11.9-12v and 14.2 when car on. Aux battery was 13 at rest and 12.25-12.75 when car was on. Do you think voltage regulator given alternator is not that old??

Nice informative video, thanks for sharing. Sometimes, my W211 does the same funny thing. What I normally do is switch off the ignition for a few mins and turn on the car and then it disappears, lol. Anyways, I think this could be a difficult job for a novice person like me. First of all underneath the car there is a protective shield that has to be removed in order to access the regulator. Secondly, under extreme cold weather one can't do such DIY job in an open space with piles of snow lying around. So do you mind telling how much labour time + cost it would take to fix this item by any auto mechanic?

Thanks for reminding to disconnect the auxiliary battery - I would have forgotten that step. BTW, Yuasa aux battery is available at motorcycle shops for ~ $60, why pay the stealer close to $200?

wow i checked the pricing of that part and for now i just gotta bare with the convenience features limited warning every morning when i switch on my E240. it goes off just few minutes after that and it doesnt really limit my ac or radio. i think my steering doesnt come down itself but then i just press my seat memory button to let the steering come down to my preferred position

I have problems with the control too now it won't let me open the doors locks only with the spare key (that's scks) lol AC still giving the same problems like when you just to have it the radio sometimes they went off" the interior lights don't work too" and passenger seat don't move" 😤😤😤😥😥😥 anyone have an idea? lol and thanks

I got this malfunction msg for last 2 months, but never had ac lowering or radio shutting problem..instead occasionally dash shut down only .. I changed aux battery nut similar problem. I was told on a group w211 to charge..coz my daily ride was about 20km only .. so I took a ride 150km and disnt have this msg for 7 days.. but again today got message of malfunction and switch off consumables .. but when I on agterboff engine consumables available message. So what would this be .. voltage on battery shows 12+ V ..

Hey, did you get this fixed? I have the same problem with my 06 E 350. If the headlights are on too long at night or i turn on the ac, there is a power drain and all my lights come on ( brakes, power steering, etc) as the car starts the process of shutting down due to lack of power. This started happening after the alternator died and I replaced it along with a new battery. I'm out of ideas.

Hallo man. I have mercedes a180 2013. And have almost same problem. My car go crazy on wet weather, last year onn winter i have problem and also now. Problem start when i diving. Ac go shut down and radio also and after a few seconds turn on agen off... A lot of errors are printed on the display (lights turn on and off, etc.)Did you have a same problem or? I also get this message sometimes while starting up and sometimes while driving. I checked the voltage on the main battery while the message was showing the voltage was rapidly jumping from 11-15 volts, this also causes all the lights to fade in and out. Sometimes it stops if I rev my car alittle, sometimes it doesnt stop before driving a while.. Do you think I need a new regulator, the whole alternator or new battery ?

I bet your can runs like it's moody based on voltage high/low. Charge up main batt then enjoy super normal power!! I bet its caused by a bad ground point... at the rear SAM

I don't get that light (no light in fact) but wonder if I have a similar problem. Often when I turn on my '06 e350 I get no electrics - no gauges, no radio, no a/c, no windows but car always starts fine and can be driven. Do you think this is the voltage regulator?

Turns out mine was related to my key (go figure!). The IR transmitter (a 1 cm round tube at the end of the circuit board inside the key) had come loose from the board so sometimes it wasn't pointing right. I glued it back down to the board and voila, problem solved.

My barcode scanner, readed from box of my regulator this code 4047024590533. Google show you exact original Bosch regulator, which gives me after just 2 years same error. I suspect a consumer is drain my battery.

Most likely it's what he just changed out, or for best results have it checked out, mines just did this today but went back off, If it comes back on ima just go have it checked out so I'm not changing unnecessary parts.. because it can be a couple other things besides what this guy just replaced

it's undercharging and sometimes alternator discharges below 11.8V... caused by a bad ground. NO parts needed, just time to trace schematic

Hey I have a 2010 cls550z my battery light came on and I switched my regulator twice because the light kept coming on and frying my regulator. So I finally jus changed the whole alternator and battery and now my light doesn’t turn on anymore how ever doesn’t charge. Is there any other related issue?? I went to an MB electrician , he said your alternator has to be changed , it took me about 227 $ .. for all ... i found a clean original used one in my area .. price was like 160$ hand work was about 67$ .. al warnining red & white lamps are gone ... restarted after a while and Ok.

Hello I have a 2004 E500 and my power steering is not working and all of the electrical seems to not be working either. Today the dash lit up in red and said that my brakes were malfunctioning and when I shut the car off now it does not want to start. I do not believe it is the battery. Do you think it is the alternator or regulator or another huge headache?

I ve an issue with my W211, at time once I am travelling at high speed I get a msg that your convenient function has been stopped and this msg stays for 1 or 2 mins than it says the convenient function has been restored, like wise my head lights and glowing lights in speedometer also fluctuates. Hi I’m getting the message “Battery protection, convenient functions unavailable. I can start the car and after 2-4 minutes message is gone. But this morning I’ve noticed the car struggle a bit. When starting not a lot but noticeable.

icarsoft MBII/i980 will get rid of your SRS light after this change, or disconnect the battery for 2 minutes to reset the car. If you go with the latter you will need to do the window reset and clock/radio settings.

I had the same error, I cleaned the contacts on the two terminals of the large battery. The positive terminal was rusty

mine is similar but different, it started few weeks ago and i drive for some times then turn off my car then start the engine back and it goes off after few days it came back and i drive for few min and it goes away but now it keeps coming everyday specially when my vehicle is not used for few hours

I have a 2004 E500 4matic every morning my battery is dead it dies Within 5 or 10 minutes of me cutting the vehicle off I change both batteries and the battery control module and still having the same problem can it be the alternator because I just ordered a new one

It’s not an alternator, you have drainage on the electrical system, I have the same issue, i ve found three components stays on even when the car is off, roof unit, audio module, bottom button control.

Cierra Washington Did you find out what your issue was? My battery has gone flat 4 mornings in a row. I get the code here and there. I read on another tread it could be a “amp issue”. Apparently it causes the radio to go on and off even when the car is not running. I think my car is having this problem. Just curious if you resolved yours?

I have the oppesite problem, it give me the malfunction when i start the car, after 2 min of driving everything is working fine, and i can use the electrical stuff again. Any ideas? same problem?

I have a 2003 Mercedes E500 I changed the batteries and the alternator (which comes with a new regulator) and my car is charging when on but when I turn it off the car drains very fast and my electrical consumers is switched off at all times I’m confused what to do next any help?

Hi yesterday my mirrors stoped folding by itself while locking, I went back in the settings and the setting to fold was still on, also my parking sensors stopt working and giving me warning lights. This happend after my left side mirror was replaced can someone help please thank you.

I have the same thing since out of factory... Its caused by a bad chassis ground issue in the rear SAM telling story to main ECM that manages the smart alternator. Ni parts needed, just time!
