If you remove everything. You'll eventually gain the wieght back. Your craving will be so bad that you'll give into. That's the reason why many patients regain weight.

@victoriahollister6875 you are correct. I wouldn't say it's a fix but I'll say if people get it, they need to change their mindset around food

I had the Roux-en-Y bypass 8.5 years ago when I was in my late 50’s. It took me 2 full years to go from 440 to my goal weight of 210. Six months after reaching my goal weight I dropped an additional 10 pounds through skin reduction surgery. I have maintained my weight at 200 for the last 6 years. I’m part of the small percentage of bypass patients who have lost 100% of their excess weight and have not gained any weight back. I’m only commenting because of the title of this video. I’m not a medical professional or any kind of medical expert but I am an expert on being overweight having been fat most of my adult life. In my opinion if you think you can eat whatever you want after weight loss surgery then you shouldn’t have the surgery. I could be wrong but I think the vast majority of obese people are just like me. The reason we are fat is due to two things. We eat to relieve stress and we are carbaholics. We are addicted to refined sugar and carb rich highly processed foods. Gastric bypass is an extreme step to take in your life. It should change the way you eat for the rest of your life. It’s worth it when you realize being morbidly obese will almost always cause you to die prematurely. So do whatever you can to get the stress out of your life (I had to change to a less stressful job) and I would suggest you do as I have done and give up any food that has refined sugar FOREVER!!! That means no candy or pop or ice cream or processed foods since they almost always have sugar or high fructose corn syrup as a main ingredient. If you are like me you can’t just eat one cookie or one small sliver of cheesecake. If you eat the first spoonful of Ben & Jerry’s cherry garcia you don’t stop till the pint is empty. You don’t eat just one donut, you buy half a dozen and eat them all. I think you will find it takes much less willpower to give up sweets completely than it does to just eat a small amount with meals. Good luck to any of you who are contemplating gastric bypass.

We would suggest avoiding syrup unless it is a sugar free syrup. Syrup has a lot of sugar and is easy to consume more than the recommended serving size

Awesome for you but I fully disagree , I also have had decades of dieting and exercise and am now in a great place 18 months post rny I'm 56 and excited about where I am , the reason I disagree is I never had to eat lots to be obese nor did I ever have food addictions or eat junk food regularly , I was just fat right from about 3 years old , it's not an input output problem it's a processing problem
@Itdoesntmatterr
@Itdoesntmatterr 10 ай бұрын
Yeah I disagree with you too. All wls is is long term portion control, that’s it. And to the contrary all carbs are not bad just like all fat is not bad. Your body needs carbs, fats, and proteins for a reason. It’s not that you have to forever give everything you like prior to surgery but the surgery is just a tool to help you learn to eat in moderation just like with everything else. A person could eat all the healthy food they want and still gain weight. Too much of anything is not good for you and that’s with anything in life. A lot of times once people lose a lot of weight they don’t even wanna eat as much sweets as they used to but even if you do every now and then it’s okay. Any diet or surgery has better long term success when the individual learns to eat in moderation. Good for you that you totally cut out all sweets, but the sweets themselves did not make you overweight but the fact that you couldn’t control yourself from eating them. You were eating the whole box of cookies instead of telling yourself I’m gonna just eat one and that’s okay that’s what happens to a lot of people. And some people are overweight actually hate sweets so who are you talking about saying ‘we’? Just because that is why you’re overweight doesn’t mean that’s why everyone else is. Some people are overweight due to hormones or medication. Nonetheless, congratulations on your journey and I’m not saying what you’re saying is wrong per se but people also have different experiences and can handle food and sweets differently.

I can't understand why someone would go thru surgery to return to old eating habits that got them obese in the 1st place. I had VSG at age 65 and for me, it was a tool to completely reset my health. I will be on a low carb, no sugar plant-based diet for the rest of my life with a daily calorie intake of 1200.

This might be a dumb question but, in the subject of protein. Is it not beneficial to attempt to “plug that pouch” with a protein shake? I mean am I thinking about this wrong when it comes to protein shakes? Or will it simply just go straight through? Same question for soups? Are those another thing I should stay away from after lap-band? I’m not looking for medical advice just general information for that specific situation. Thanks 🙏🏻

This is the newest video on the subject I could find on KZfaq. It's difficult to find information for people who have bariatric surgery to repair esophagus problems and not for weight loss. So, even though the surgery is successful for GERD problems, how does the person who didn't have the surgery to lose weight avoid getting overly slim? You have to have enough calories for weight gain and you need some carbs to do that.

I had the sleeve July of last year and my life has changed a lot. I have hunger pains often at night. Surgery helped me to be more fertile. I regained my self esteem although I’m not at my goal weight due to pregnancy. I don’t eat a lot and it’s been almost a year and I cannot tolerate sugar fast food and carbonated drinks. There’s not many foods tht I can eat tht won’t cause the dumping syndrome. It’s hard to not be able to enjoy foods anymore but i finally got 5 years of weight off me and I plan to continue to lose weight after my baby is born. I think tht you should get the surgery only if you are ready for a lifestyle change because your life changes completely.

Yes, those can be substitutes for meat options just be sure of the carb content. Sometimes veggie "burger" will be made with quinoa and other grains. I'm in process of getting bypass. I'm 27. And I'm starting to have my doubts. I don't know if I can live everyday the rest of my life chewing each bite 15 times, eating every so often, and constantly taking vitamins and supplements. I am not big into sugars, I have 3 kids living and 2 angel babies.. and i have dealt with a lot of trauma which all put me over 300 lbs. But I've lost almost 30lbs on my own. Everything you said is the opposite of the nutrition class I had. They said no beef, no pork, no fried foods, no sugar, no sugary drinks, even with 1mg of total carbohydrates. That we can't drink except 30 mins before our meal and wait 30 mins after. Chew every bite 15 times, and that we should eat within 30 mins with no drink. That we have to exercise atleast 15-30mins a day, we have to drink so much water a day. It's just a lot and I have enough that stresses me out with my kids health problems, and my husband being gone weeks at a time for work. Then I think of how will we vacation as a family? Go to family outings, go to the carnival, etc. I just hate thinking the rest of my like with be bound by this decision I make. I have a hard time exercising because of my back and knees but I am trying to find water exercising stuff around me. On top of us purchasing other work out equipment. Ugh!!! I just... Idk what to do 😭

@JamesBaldwinLover
@JamesBaldwinLover 3 жыл бұрын
I had a vertical sleeve just 6 days ago. I sort of knew what to expect because I have 2 family members who had the gastric bypass procedure. Although there are distinct differences between the two, all bariatric procedures are designed to help you keep the weight off. But you have to follow the rules and if you don't, you will regain--not because the procedure didn't work but rather you failed to follow the rules. Before surgery, I was put on a strict liquid high protein diet where I drank the protein shakes, water, unsweetened tea, and Crystal Light. My doctor told me that losing around 30-35 pounds will help my liver become more supple and more easily handled during surgery, as it must be lifted to get to the stomach. Now post-op, I have about 2 more weeks of liquid before I can have something as simple as a soft scrambled egg. The rules are very restrictive to help you heal post-op, but just know that they are temporary. If you intend to keep your weight off once you lose it, you need to decide if you can follow these temporary rules. It's great you lost 30 pounds, however, do you have a plan to get to your goal weight if you don't have the surgery? Bariatric procedures are tools that help morbidly obese people lose and keep off weight because they've been unable to lose through diet and exercise. Really think candidly about your history of obesity and what your best options are. Try to see yourself post-op, losing the weight and continuing to lose because you're not as heavy, and you have the energy and ability to exercise. Think about what you want out of life and if having the procedure will help you get there. If your answer is yes, then enlist the support of your family and friends to help you through the difficult aspects of it. Surgery may not be for you, and there are mental health professionals you can speak with about your history with food and your present challenges. This is why a psychological evaluation is required for all bariatric surgery candidates because the procedures require changes to your manner of thinking and force you to confront risky behaviors. If you have the surgery and think you're going to be able to emotionally eat or put no thought into what or how much you eat, think again. I wish you the best. Be well.

What % of bariatric patients do you think have undiagnosed Cushing’s Syndrome or Cushing’s Disease? I bet it’s way higher than the % of the general population.

I order one. Yes, just one, and pick at the meat. I don't have room for the corn tortilla. Just chew slowly and a lot before swallowing. ☺ Great source of protein!

After weight loss surgery, your stomach will be smaller and therefore you will feel full faster. So in fact you won't want to / be able to feast on a ton of food

You can...but in super small portions spaced out over time. Example: 1 oz turkey with gravy at 9 am, 2 tbl of mashed potatoes with bacon bits at 12 pm, 1 oz of green bean casserole at 3 pm, small slice of ham at 6 pm, and 1 tbl spoon of stuffing at 9 pm. It's all about spacing and portion control and listening to your body. It lets you know when its full. :)

It depends. If you want a pint of Ben and Jerry's - you prolly shouldn't get surgery. 😀

This sounds like it kinda defeats the purpose of getting a surgery for weight loss if you still have to watch how much you eat, sounds kinda stupid to get a surgery if you still have to eat less, like doesn't that already happened when you eat less without a surgery? Don't you already lose weight when you eat that small like measurements of tablespoons? I have to eat more than just two fuckin tablespoons
@LiveHealthyMD
@LiveHealthyMD 2 жыл бұрын
The cool thing about the surgery is that it shrinks your stomach capacity. So when we talk about smaller portions, although it seems like not a lot at all you will be shocked when you eat a small meal and feel extremely full. One of the biggest challenges our patients have faced prior to having surgery is maintaining their weight loss. They will say they have tried diets and failed at them to only regain more than they originally weighed. Most often, bariatric patients have a metabolic disorder that makes it harder to lose weigh. So not only is surgery forcing you to eat less (due to a smaller stomach size) there is also a change in your anatomy and hormones that affects your hunger
