I learned a "panic" response to being hungry from being raised in a alcoholic/narcissistic home because my mother wouldn't eat whenever she was drinking, so if she wasn't hungry she felt I didn't deserve to eat or just forgot that she needed to feed me. A therapist once said it could be that the starvation of me was a punishment for having a need and that by starving me it may cause me to die and therefore let her off the hook of having to take care of me at all.

My two sisters and I were all body shamed at a young age. We all knew that to challenge our mother would result in comments that were even more wounding. This makes it so hard to stand up for yourself.... To then be criticised by mother for NOT standing up for yourself 🤔
