Can confirm, in the tabletop lore, Ghorst is pretty much nobody. His brothers died from a plague, he survived, and Mannfred decided to teach him spooky magic. That's more or less it. That Ghorst ended up surpassing that conniving cueball of a man is immensely satisfying.

Still amazes me how Ghorst went from a joke of a LL, to one of the best experiences of the Vamp Counts faction, one where you aren't just surrounded against endless enemies and it's a struggle, but you are surrounded by endless enemies, but also have a good way at dealing with them for awhile.

This is the type of trash I love.

I can't quite say why, but I think Helman Ghorst is good

His start used to be stronger. He had a mortis engine which is an ethereal unit (has 70% physical damage resistance and causes fear which is an aoe morale debuff for all enemy units) that healed all friendly units in a 35m radius, and also did damage to all enemy units in a 35m radius so long as it was in combat. Because it was in helman Ghorsts faction, it also had a single free use spell that could summon more zombies temporarily.

The default battle healing cap is 60% of a unit's total hp, not 100%. A zombie can't regen 12k hp until it gets more healing cap bonuses, it can regen 7.2k

The thing about Ghorst's Zombies is that he doesn't just buff them in his own army. He buffs them *factionwide*. Yes, Zombies in his own army are going to be stronger, but you can still pull off the terrifying hordes and easily wipe 2-3 armies with just one group of smelly bois with *any* leader.

One of the hardest battles I had to play in my IE Chorf campaign was against Ghorst. It's amazing how nail biting it was to almost lose to an army of mostly zombies despite firing absurd amounts of chaos dwarf artillery and guns into them. They just don't die.

I too drive a 2006 Honda Civic, and I can confirm that I am also an ugly necromancer who every one ignores despite the fact I can easily destroy the world.

The healing cap effects were multiplicative when Ghorst was reworked, but have since been nerfed into being additive. But at the end of the day you can still end up with somewhere in the ballpark of 700 % increased healing cap. I think it's fair to say you'll very rarely need any more unless you're trying to defeat a full army with a single unit of zombies.

We now need a Counter Anti-Kleaper

A small note: because zombies tend to die in massive numbers, ghorst can get access to VC end game units by turn 10 or so. Just suicide two armies into the nearby skaven settlement and the number of dead from both sides will allow you to get terrorgeists really quickly. TG are phenomenal for lord sniping and raise dead never runs out completely. Sometimes you just need to wait a few turns to get those units again.

Usually you just make a zombie stack with a corpse cart with unholy lodestone (massive healing) and maybe another corpse cart with balefire, giving your units around it flaming and magical attacks, and 20% flame resistance. So not that different than the video, just less painful overall.

This strategy reminds me so much of the Nurgle video - clump everything into a ball, while doing big AOE damage to all nearby enemies.

My first full map completion was helman ghorst and my favourite thing was seeing how many kills the enemy get only to see you lose about 20 zombies come the end of the battle.

It's not quality that kills, quantity does. And quantity has a quality of it's own anyway.

As for the "noname character": Helman Ghorst is a named character in the "Sigmar's Blood" campaign book, which came out during WHF 8th edition. Nothing particularly amazing about him, but he IS a named special character.

The second that you said there's nobody who is more condescending than gorst my mind immediately played the vampire Coast tattered sails and my mind shot to noctilus because even when I was strength 173 that dude would be like oh you come to grovel at my feet granted I practically dominated the entire map other than the chaos wastes afterward but that's besides the point

I really like whst they did with Ghorst he became an amazing lord for zombie themed armies. I would like to see other lords get similar buffs for their themed units aswell.

A friend of mine was doing a competitive MP game. He was playing dwarves and did really good ending up as one of the last 2 survivors. The other being, of course, Gorst. He first went on the offensive, doing quite good, until the tide of zombies slowly pushes him back towards his borders. What followed was a literal TIDE of undead with a total of 75 armies of mostly zombies crashing upon his defences. Unable to win the war of atrition, he forfeited.

This feels like playing the game as the necromancer from Zombieslayer
