Pros: Sunnier than Monteverde, CR, more luxurious than La Fortuna, CR. Cons: fewer hikes and lacks guides for eco tourism. There is no significant state support for parks outside downtown. Hostels lack the social pub dynamics of CR hostels. Solo travelers should stick to beach hostels in Panama. In CR, inland hostels are more fun.

Just spent time here in February. Weather is good, little windy sometimes. My problem with this town is that it is an auto town, not a compact walking town. Tours to waterfall or volcano require car or or van transport. In town there is a parque biblioteca which is worth a visit. Beach towns are 3-5 hour van trips away. There are more hostels here than you find on line, don't know why they don't seem to advertise. Best wishes.
