This is about Crepis japonica, aka Crepis Youngia, a common lawn weed with worldwide distribution. It is my third video about this species and filmed nearly 14 years to the day from the original in 2008.

Like anything in nature, I'm horrible at recognizing/distinguishing plants. You've made it easy for me. Thanks.

Thank you so much for this video. I moved to southern Alabama from Inverness, Florida last winter. I am finding so many edible weeds on this land we bought, with an old farmhouse. I have found chickweed, purslane, cleavers and curly dock, so far, and There is a TON of this plant around the house. I tentatively identified it, and wanted to try it. Your video made me sure I have the right plant, and more excited than ever to “eat the weeds!”

I didn't know chickweed was edible by humans. My cat loves it.

Yes, youngia was first. He was a wonderkind, the crepis name was added about 40 years later.

Here in Oregon's Willamette Valley, we have the Crepis setosa (the bristly hawksbeard). It's one of my favorites to eat. The greens are so mild, like lettuce, and they stay tasty later in the spring/early summer season than other wild greens of that time. I prefer it's taste to many varieties of garden lettuce.

I see it a lot. The plants in that family are so frustrating to correctly identify. They all vary in their leaf shapes.

Hello Dean,very informative/critical videos! I'd like to go on the forum on your website but it shows that it's insecure/ that others can potentially access my personal information from there..I've already been hacked once before and definitely not looking to take a known risk.I'm hoping you're able to make the site secure! I clicked on a couple of things on this notice where it said to ask the person running the site to make it secure. Hoping your able to,but either way great videos!

The website is secure. I had it secured earlier in the month.

Is there another plant similar to it that could be dangerous to eat? Or is it safe to identify for a beginner?

Can you make a tincture out of the leaves?
@rbm61842 жыл бұрын
I would not want to confuse it with a Tasselflower. Haha. Tasselflower does not have a basil rosette but it does have leaves on the stem that this does not. If I am not sure of my ability to identify it correctly or previously familiar with it I leave it alone. Thanks for sharing.

Audio during the talk is not there, only the intro music.
@EatTheWeeds2 жыл бұрын
It might be a setting on your end especially if you have sophisticated equipment.
@chieftechnicalwizard2 жыл бұрын
I think I narrowed it down to the time when you're in front of your background. The audio works for the time when you're in the field and in the intro music but when you're actually sitting at your background it's just hissing, FYI. Keep up the good work I love these videos!
@EatTheWeeds2 жыл бұрын
@@chieftechnicalwizard When I am in front of the background I am using a new stereo mic and a sender receiver to the camera. I can hear it all with not problem and no hissing.

Check to make sure you are using both left and right audio output. Sometimes that can solve similar issues
