I heard a couple of really big Danley systems at a dance music and sound system culture festival in the UK, quite honestly as a lifelong sound system geek, the best sound I have ever witnessed. Like a giant HiFi with incredible imaging and unbelievable control over the bass. Absolutely kinetic bass but not excessively loud. I immediately thought ‘I need to setup a listening bar with these synergy horns’ then found this video!

America needs more of these 'music' joints. Why do we have to go all the way to Japan to find solace in that manner? Live music can be expensive at times, but there's usually no public place to chill to (non-dance) music outside from home for the most part. Btw, is this place still up and around since it opened? I am skeptical because we are in an age where people can't put down their gadgets, so I salute this guy for giving this a shot.

*I love the conversations.* My 1st grade room had no teachers, no students, books, pins, paper or pencils. SO HEARING others talking about things that I was never privy to where I lived because I was the MONSTER (code for: Jew) *can be like having parents warning you or making you aware of opportunities.* My father taught me to survive on earth so learning about non-violent ways of living is pretty cool :) ... I know for a fact that picking up MUSIC and POETRY (on my own as a kid) kept me from becoming a Mass Murder which I was considering by the time I was 12. btw, I made a vow to never be violent again at 16, 52 years ago. I do smoke a HELL of a LOT OF POT :) I performed (mostly zero crowds) over 3,500 paid gigs - nearly 1,000 1hr shows I wrote for Dementia and Altheimer health care facilities. ..... I don't do any drugs when I'm the road... which is why COVID has made me a POT Head again ;) lol

@@rickg8015 That's news to me. The only close patent to that kind of design to my knowledge is owned by Ralph Heinz. The patent had a world application so he could sue anyone anywhere if he had the inclination. However, he sited 25 inventions leading back to 1925...so a real gumbo of tech. The other side of that is that there are 88 'others' who have cited Heinz's invention. 3 times it's been Danley. All to say, it's not his to defend so far as I can tell.

@@pranadistribution6033 There are threads in which Tom claimed they also used key elements of his design, not just the very old Renkus Heinz ones.. It gets very murky with these types of technical things for me.. I tried posting his posts from AA and Diyaudio but it gets auto deleted here.. Anyway, I have no stake in this. I’m just an enthusiast who read Tom’s posts.

A terrific 27mins! ... and 27mins could've been spent on the Danleys alone! SH60s w/pair of SubMersives, nice rig. I've had a pair of SubMs for 10yrs... heavy use, every day. What was mentioned about putting one's head up into the horn mouth... the Synergy is so point source coherent, with near ideal phase/time domain behavior... as you approach the cabinet during playback, the coherent image of the single speaker remains all the up to the point of one's head up at the face of the horn. The Synergy places multiple drivers covering differing bandwidths into a single horn. Keeping each element's contribution into the horn with a 1/4 wavelength of one another, the energy sums so well it can essentially pass square waves. There's trick implementation of the driver/exit port loading relationship creating bandpass characteristics that limit out of band distortion products. Danley systems are showing up everywhere. I've experienced a smaller Synergy in an all day blind shootout of high performance home theater loudspeakers... they were superb in the residential scenario. Love that club. Style. Premise. Gear. Acoustics. Similar listening rooms are here in the Midwest too.... actually it's high end dining, only seats 16 at a time, vinyl rig thru tubes, into Klipsch, with full album sides played... dig the idea. Steve, how'd it sound?

Great video Steve, Eavesdrop is certainly an interesting new concept. Great to see people moving forward with brave new ideas. As audiophiles we often discuss the demise of bricks and mortar retailers, or speak of the joy we get from the people who still work hard to deliver audio retail experiences in our communities. I want to share a tragic story of a small family Hi-Fi business here in Australia that just 4 days ago was decimated by extreme flooding. The company is Living Entertainment North Coast, in a small place called Lismore, owned and operated by a young couple Nat and Renee. Last year they put everything they had into a new showroom to deliver a fantastic retail experience. This new showroom was totally wiped out last week by flood, together with $500k of stock. There is no flood insurance in many parts of Australia and Lismore is one of these areas, so Nat and Renee have lost everything. See Link to their KZfaq site and the terrible footage of what has happened to their store, livelihood and lives. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n8qTqpOfqriaZHU.html A Go Fund Me site has been set up to try and give them some way of recovering and moving forward (Link in flood video drop-down noon KZfaq). I believe that the audiophile community is made up of good people, who share a passion and come together over the thing we love. If just a few people in the community could give up the money for a cup of coffee today and pass it to Nat and Renee via the GFM site it could make a huge difference. I know there are a lot of bad things happening in the world right now, and this is only one, but as an audiophile it's one close to my heart. Btw, I have no affiliation with the store other than being a customer. Please take a moment and help if you can.

As far as "thinking too much" about room treatment to the point of being a negative to the room, that result would indicate "too much wrong thinking". There are ways to measure a room and scientifically calculate the room treatment which would give the desired result for that client while compromising a little for 'feel'.

I have thought a good deal about listening rooms and have come to the conclusion that to own and manage one would be like herding cats. However, I hope that this is a success and that the format can spread far and wide. If I ever get to go to one I hope that my catholic taste in music would be catered to, because if the music is something I actively dislike during the whole of that visit and similar is slated for the coming week, I am unlikely to ever give the joint a second thought (as I am very lazy).
