Awesome video. I have an incoming really clean Seiko a258 with some missing segments that I took a chance on. Will be interesting to see what the board looks like. Thanks!

Thank you for another awesome vid! Its amazing how many VDW's go for a very cheap price because of a segment missing, its always a gamble though, years ago I had a couple I picked up on eBay and when they arrived on internal inspection looked like they had been on a diving expedition, totally corroded all the way through. these days my eyes let me down to even start doing restorations again so I'm getting my fix from watching your vids :-)

Haha, I know how off putting a series of unfixable watches can be, and Yes it is a gamble as maybe they have already been scavenged for parts by someone else. Thanks for the comment and I am glad the videos are entertaining.

Video looks familiar to me lol. I could tell as soon as you showed the board what the fix would be ! Liked your scope work, do you now have a holder for your phone / camera? I find I have to film mine and then rotate the footage so you get a more widescreen video . That board also looks so classic Casio! I’ve worked on a few recently and clearly when a design works they don’t really go all out to change it. Especially liked the bit at the end with the oscilloscope . Wish they were a bit cheaper to purchase as I have one watch ( think you know the one) with a segment I can’t get to work. Would be nice to know what it is, lcd or IC. Either way a replacement would be very hard to find.

Hey Michael, Yes, the fix was obvious and I kind hoped it would have been something different but I went with what fate decided. And I am still due to get a phone holder :D..been postponing it too long. The type of oscilloscope I use can be found for 60-70 GBP used on eBay, but the oscilloscope market is huge so you do have other options

Do you remove the batteries from your watches before you store them? I have the fear that the battery could leak inside the watch otherwise. But maybe it's better for the lcd display if it is kept running all the time?

Is there a standard pattern/arrangement to determine which LCD segment the pads connect to?
@VintageDigitalWatches2 жыл бұрын
No, different on all watches, in certain light under magnification you can see them.

How do you know if the zebra strip is placed back in the correct place?
@VintageDigitalWatches4 жыл бұрын
Well it is experience, but here are a few tips: - If zebra strips are different sizes note down on a piece of paper which goes where - The zebra strip will have the side that sits on the LCD smooth, and the side that sits on the circuit with some indents because of the years sitting pressed against the copper pads. Make sure you set it in in the same way.

@VintageDigitalWatches5 жыл бұрын
Rafael, I know what you mean, I also have the same thing on a watch but never decided to try and fix it. So I can't say what will work, off the bat I am thinking changing the film on the front but I can't say for sure.
