In this video I give detailed instructions on how to properly calibrate the eBay or Mayflower tire changer and balancer. There is very limited information on how to do this and the customer support language barrier can be confusing and frustrating. I also go over what I think about these machines after owning them for a year!

Great video, especially for calibrating the balancer. Plain, simple and to the point. Well spoke and easy to hear. Bonus points for not wasting time telling us about crap we don't care about. Thank you.

Thank you for this. I set up my machine by your instructions, and it's working great. One tip for your viewers, when you level the machine, don't put level the top of the machine. Level the spindle instead. The plastic top of my machine was a couple of degrees misaligned from the spindle.

Good advice! I figured there was a better way to level it. Makes sense that the spindle should be the leveling point. 🤙🏻

I have the same combo package and love them. I added an air hose with a shut off valve to the tire machine so I can unhook my air hose to fill the tire without losing all the air in the machine. I did not like the tire filling hose that came with the machine. I do not have my balancer bolted down and it works fine. I do have it on a level surface and I make sure it does not wobble while in use. It is nice to be able to change my own tires. If I pick up a nail in my tire it is easy to pull the tire off, patch the tire and reinstall and balance it. For what the tire shops charge to mount and balance tires this machine pays for itself pretty quickly.

It seems to be a little glitch with these balancers. I bought the 960-680 combo a few weeks ago. I calibrated mine immediately. What I noticed was that sometimes when you spin the wheel and add the appropriate weights and then spin it again, the machine tends to want a 1/4 ounce opposite of where you placed the first weights. When that happens simply add 1/4 ounce less weight than what it initially calls for. For example, if it wants a 1.75 ounce on one side and a 1 ounce on the other side, instead use a 1.5 ounce and a .75 ounce, seems to zero out every time. But also like you said, a .25 ounce is splitting hairs, I’ve balanced thousands of tires and I would argue anything under an ounce wouldn’t be noticeable going down the road. I just like it to zero out or it annoys me lol. One immediate issue I saw with the balancer is the fact it only came with 3 cones, the biggest will not be big enough in many cases if you balance a lot of tires. Mayflower makes a fourth cone that I bought immediately but I think that one may even be too small in some rare cases. I believe you can buy other brand cones online, as long as it’s for a 36mm shaft like these machines are. Looking at the cones on your machine I’m guessing you also bought some bigger ones?
@SignMeUpDesigns
@SignMeUpDesigns 4 жыл бұрын
These actually came with all of the cones you see in the video. It appears that some come with only a few. I have used the larger cone it came with to do truck wheels on full size Chevys and Toyotas.

I’ve had the same wheel balancer now for a few years. Was skeptical when I bought them because I actually replaced two Coats machines with them. LOL they work great I’ve done over 100 tires. I have a specific smaller rim that I use to calibrate the machine so every now and then I will use that same rim and re-calibrate the machine I have the rim marked where the weights go and so far it’s recalibrated it to the same exact spot every time. Pleased with the purchase. The color was perfect my friend made me Bluepoint stickers and I put them on the front. LoL tire machine I purchased with the cheetah built into it. It works pretty damn good large tires I need a second cheetah but that goes for any large tire

My 215/45ZR-17's balanced first time with no issues. The 255/40ZR-17's however, not so much. Couldn't get anything consistent and kept chasing the weights around until I came here and read comments. I shimmed and leveled the rotor shaft....that accomplished squat. I finally subtracted 0.25 ounce from the measurements and everything locked right in. At worst, it said it needed 0.25 ounces in the location where I'd subtracted it. But I wasn't falling for that, since every time I added what it SAID to add, it then turned around and said it needed some monstrous amount of weight someplace else.

Hi, great video, thanks. I have the same machine and Iv had the same problems mainly because like you said the language barrier is awful. I finally found a video that explains how to calibrate these machines. You can find the video on you tube BC 988 tooLots china. Before you start to calibrate , the first thing you do is to input the three wheel parameters, second, you make sure there are no weights on the wheel. Third, you press c and f to start calibration and the rest is putting the calibration weight from one side to the other. I tried it this way and it’s been zeroing perfect. Try it out and see how it works for you. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

The tire changer actually broke down on us after about a year or so too. Some of the cheap, plastic air lines on the turn table broke and leaked all of the air out. My local air fitting supplier didn’t have the exact parts but I was able to make some brass fittings work to the tune of $100. It was an annoying fix since I had to totally disassemble the top of the machine but now I shouldn’t have to worry anymore.

You need to do a factory calibration. One step above that one.. I have a different model (Brite) It's been excellent, and now can balance factory 106 mm Toyota truck rims perfect. Along with most Motorcycle rims/ tires . You cannot include all the China models /clones in the same boat.. Most the time the balancers are pretty good, but the mounting of the rim on the balancer is the true problem. Getting consistent readings with these machines takes quality setup. in the area of mounting plates/cone styles/etc.. I took my larger cone, and turned it to fit the center hub, and turned it to fit the Toyota center hub, and use a cheap China adjustable finger plate. I get 2 thousands run-out out of the rim with that setup.. That is way better then most rims built anywhere in the world.. Balance out perfect, and as good or better then super high-end machines.. I did try doing the calibration without a tire on the rim.. Not a good idea, because it caused the chasing weight issue that the machine never had. Remounted the test rim, and tire.. all zero's, and easy to get there again..

@SignMeUpDesigns
@SignMeUpDesigns 3 жыл бұрын
The duck bill is metal but it does not damage wheels. You can set the depth and inward stop point so that it does not contact the wheel. I’ve done hundreds of tires and haven’t scratched a wheel yet. The clamps that hold the wheel are metal but the machine also came with plastic sleeves if you care to run them. The sleeves work for inside or outside clamping protection.

Still holding up. I had to replace some cheap air valves on the mounting machine which involved pulling the turntable. About $50 in parts locally and 3 hours of time but used all brass instead of plastic. Otherwise no issues. The balancer still fails to “zero out” on bigger wheels and tires but I haven’t had any vibrations afterwards. Would I buy again, yes if I was in the same budget. For daily use I would spend up on name brand machines. For a hobbyist like me these are worth the hassle. All things considered, I’ve only spent $50 and a little time on maintenance over 3+ years.
