I found a rather THICC Ork Warboss on eBay that really needed help. A little tlc and we can get this guy back on the tabletop. I always love painting Orks and this is one of the better ones I've been able to work on in a while. Really good sculpting, especially in the face, and some awesome details that make this a really cool model!

As someone who runs a miniature painting workshop for mostly kids with disabilities, one of the biggest keys to retention is reassurance that making mistakes is quite fine, and it is a learning process. My first model looked WORSE than that model, and something I try to do is find things about the model that ARE good, whether its colour selection, technique, painting accuracy, or even basing.. something they can take away with them to go "hey, ive been told that this is a good example of X, even as a learner.. so I didnt waste my time". Positive reinforcement does wonders, and this entire video hammers the point home really well. Great job Casey.

I've never forgotten how, when I first went to my painting sensei's house, he took one look at the craft paints I started off using and declared "Put that s**t AWAY," in horror. Since those don't thin down properly, I remember how thick the paint went on in my first endeavors pretty well--not near as bad as this one was, but still. I still have several minis from my beginnings and I'll never strip them and repaint them because they remind me how long a way I've come as a painter in the last 14 years.

A lot of them are the reason why I even wanted to start filming in the first place, and they have been nothing but encouraging from the very beginning. I can only hope to be a reflection of the kindness that anyone has shown me in the hobby and try and encourage people to have as much fun as possible when it comes to painting minis!

The war boss seemed to be holiday flavored, like 4th of July and one layer during the strip away looked Easter. It could be because I'm partially colorblind or that the idea of this war boss was to "stomp" holidays. Therefore his banner should of been, like a flag of holiday symbols with a couple of X's and tally Mark's under him. Would make a hilarious Ork with the mind set of destroying holidays.

Hey dude……….have recently come across your channel. After watching some 40k lore vids by David Attenborough randomly. I’m 43, Bath uk 🇬🇧 and used to be a huge 40k fan. Not really thought about it apart from getting wet over a few video games and the odd book over the last 30 years. What I used to do was paint……….. when citadel inks had blue tops and I had to save a month pocket money to buy a character model and a dry brush meant to most of my mates what their mother did to them on a Sunday for being late for dinner…………….and that was a preferred punishment. I was outwardly ‘jock’ (USA - Effinism…….. def a word, if not I’m coin-op-ing it) with the biggest and more so nerd side ever………. Talk about bipolar childhood. Anyway to put it in short for, a job I sculpt plaster for buildings over 1000 years old……….. you never know where warhammer will take you but the creativity it’s brings is priceless. I’m so getting divorced as just bought a set of new new paints, and found my old tyranid collection in mothers loft. Shhhhhhhhh 🫣 I can feel a long weekend coming on…….. when the wife is out of town 😇

Love how the model turned out! Great color composition. I have one suggestion though. The universal blue shadow color suggest that the orc is in a cold environment, however his base tells another story. Maybe interesting to experiment with matching the universal shadow color to the base somehow. Something like Payne's Grey would have been suitable, or even a colder brown.

Yeah that would have worked, probably if I painted more of the armor actually blue too. I have been looking for Payne's Grey forever too, I can never seem to get my hands on it at an art store. I should just go out and get some online.

Looking at your process on this model gives me ideas. With very small changes, this Ork Boss could be turned into a steampunk-brawler. Maybe there is an army of Orcs that have repurposed some Dwarf technology for their WAAAGH!!?

This model would be perfect for something like that!

Okay but that banner is absolute fire. I don't think I could get that effect even if I tried

I have minis for my kid, he has had me strip the paint off many of them to re-paint multiple times hehe

Very cool! Love to see that :) I'm finally getting a good pile that will need to be stripped, a few that my kid wants to keep though so that's progress!

With standard acrylics his son paints better than me. If it wasn’t for Speed paint or contrast I wouldn’t be able to have the fun he’s having lol.

Lil guy did a pretty good job. I've seen much worse. It looked interesting when it was done 2 thumbs up.

Great work on that thick paint. I've found degreaser to be a revelation for plastic models.

@eBayMiniatureRescues I'm in the UK, so I tried the product 'Elbow Grease'. It's £2/litre and I'm just soaking with it. Worked a charm. I posted the progress to your FB page.
