There are some weeks in Warhammer where things go well, and other weeks where you can sit there at the end of it all and not believe how it got this screwed up. This week I really messed up and made more than a few mistakes, things go pretty bad while rescuing a rhino for Warhammer 40k. Luckily, there was a camera pointed at me the whole time so you can hopefully learn from all of my mistakes!! That makes it all sound pretty great!
Sometimes we can get into a rut, what's important is what you're going to do to get out of it.

In your defence, the metal wraithlord and war walker used the same torso part, rotated. If you'd made one, it would be easy to assume the other uses the part in the same orientation.

Reminds me of how I put the head on backwards on my first Skitarii Vanguard. Had to take the head off with a wood saw, which scarred the chestplate. I passed it off as battle damage from a tyranid.

A lesson as important as how to use tools or apply paint - Knowing you always can back up, start over, strip or paint over, and push past a bump to finish. Its also OK to put a piece down and come back a day, a week, a month later when you can see it fresh (just don’t wait too long or it may get forgotten)

This is my favorite of your “vehicles “....there is a process that I sometimes (over 90% of the time) use in my watercolour paintings It kinda goes like this... I paint until it is pretty to others and then I will do something to break it...a huge splash or mark or wash...something that is totally wrong! Then I have to bring it back...make it whole again... Oh boy does that make it so much more...way MORE... And this is your more...you can feel and see the time and the purpose and it is fantastic. Thank you for sharing Casey.

Dude, believe me, I Get It; I've made some pretty heinous mistakes in my time painting and building, for sure--notably my marked inability to drill and pin parts at a totally straight angle and always finding this out the hard way every time. Oh, and I thought you'd be pleased to know, I scored a new Badger 105 Patriot airbrush...only to find I need a 1/8" adapter for it to fit on my compressor's hose. Ah, well, at least it's a pretty easy fix. Looking forward to playing with this beauty!

I stopped using chipping medium, I now use AK interactive weathering pencils to do the scratched paint on the edges of vehicles, you have more control and can easier use different brightness if the metal pencils to add highlights and shadows to the scratches, I also went back to the old school sponge dabbing for the chips in the armour panels, again more control and easier to vary the colour. . I found these techniques save time and mess.

If I had to hazard a guess the reason it didn't work this attempt as it worked in the past, is not enough time was given between paint layers for things to cure properly. Acrylic primers, and paints are dry to the touch in just a few minutes but can take 24hrs or more to cure. I think the problem was attempting to do to many painting effect in a single day/session. If you waited at least a day after applying the brown/black primer before applying a chipping fluid layer and light colored layer to get the chipping effect, the brown layer probably would have been cured enough to allow for the immediate oil wash. But because the primer coat wasn't cured fully it was significantly softened by the chipping fluid, and then the combination of solvents and agitation of the wash step cause sections to slough off down to bare plastic. Alternatively if you waited a day or two after chipping but before the wash you probably wouldn't have had this problem. Your hubris attempting to prime, chip and oil wash in a single session was your downfall /s ;) (I can empathize with the frustration on things not working as intended, I happy to see it all worked out in the end)

@eBayMiniatureRescues
@eBayMiniatureRescues 3 жыл бұрын
A lot of the times I don’t, because I want the enamel to stain the color underneath. But I’m also usually working with standard acrylics that are dry before putting in anything else. In this case the second go was varnished beforehand, made a huge difference! In just about every case it’s best to varnish before applying enamels and oils.

The reaction in question could be potentially because you did not apply a varnish in between the chipping and the spirits? I only say this because I didn’t hear you say it but I could be incorrect on this. Either way pretty shabby

Normally I don’t, it doesn’t really seem to matter too much as long as the paint is dry, but this time I may have been a little hasty. It was pretty ugly lol. I varnished it the second go around and it fixed the problem at least :).

8:53 your mistake is perfectly summed up right here, its a nurgle tank, and you're trying to make it look "nicer" nurgle is supposed to look fugly, sickly, corrupt, and wrong, even your chipping medium knows this XD
