This week I wanted to take a little break, so to speak. I realized that I've never painted a Stormcast Eternal model on this channel. I have lots of them, I've been sent some (Thanks Matt G.) but I still haven't painted one? Strange, because I really like Stormcast models. And this model in particular, is my personal favorite. So much character! I didn't mention it in the video, but I've got some ideas for some super cool conversions using this model. Something real nice, but I'm gonna have to go get another one lol. Soon enough i'm sure. I also put up a new shirt on the merch shelf. I thought it would be nice for people who have a hard time choosing the pronunciation of Abaddon. Honestly, I thought it would get some good laughs from people who have been watching for a while, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and thank you all for helping out the channel by purchasing merch from that shelf, it goes a long way towards ebay purchases to keep the channel going!

Gosh, that's nice. I've often thought the 'official' GW paint scheme was a bit gaudy for these guys and this suits the ethereal theme figures so much better. Watering down the nihlic oxide is a great idea and gives a great effect. I've been looking forward to a clean armour paint job for a while and this is just the job ! Thanks for posting!

Yeah that bright blue and bright yellow is a lot to look at for an entire army. Pulling it back just a little bit feels more grounded. I’m glad you like the scheme :)

Since that Goobertown-vid on color construction I've been paying much more respect to individual color choices, so seeing you work with your favourites, diluting certain colors etc. added a whole other dimension for me. Also I feel like this neat model really represents GW's new design-philosophy. Nicely done!

the nihilakx oxide was a really nice touch! Just got into mini painting through painting my war of the ring boardgame minis and also used a lot of copper so this video is very handy!

Funny you mention this--I'm in the midst of painting something pretty serious and really taking my time with my layering and such on it, and I took a break to grab something else to to bang out so I can come back to the main project fresh and inspired again. Oddly enough, the digression paint job is turning out pretty spiffy! As it happens, though, I do have a big (120mm base) project I ran out of steam with and am not wanting to return to it...I'm toying with the idea of having you finish the thing, but I lack the spare cash for that right now.

Looks amazing; the only issue I see is that the shield is so old its oxidizing but has no battle damage on it. I'd think a shield so old it's starting to rust would have had some impacts along the way.

You should look into teaching airbrush classes. Don’t see a lot of people doing that and you’re definitely good enough. Could help with your channel growth too. Another awesome video for sure!!

Man, have been a fun of your work for a long time, but only now i found this video. I'm a fun of all sigmar little boys army, but i think, that my favourite would be their priest, but their primes are really army-sellers. I agree with you about the brightness of their armour. So i make a base by mixing their over-gold paint that i got with starter set and brown hide getting over-oxidize old-copper like colour that i found majestic on them.

Thanks man! Every week is a new chance to improve :) The effect at the end is actually not too hard, I normally just put the model on a turntable and let it go, but getting a little more adventurous I decided to get varying angles and distances for shots, then changed the speed of the clips, so sometimes the speed ramps up and sometimes down, and of course trying to get those transitions to fall on a beat from the music helps sell the effect :)

The cloth/cloak texturing with the white is the stroke of genius. Where is that violet/purple sheen coming from? It's only really visible on the final shot, after you've applied the slightly shiny varnish (or whatever is going on on that rotary table - light?). Is it the Indian Shadow? The finished model showcases a really cool color combination between the pale teal/blue color and whatever that violet sheen is.

It’s Indian shadow, but there’s also a little bit of druchi violet wash on there too. I did the little pendant with that, but both those steps were super short. I didn’t include the wash because it didn’t do much to the look, it still looks like Indian shadow, of course in the final shots it’s a little shiny so it did that lol. Should have mixed up the wash a little more.

The good news is that Stormcast are practically always getting new models. I’m actually feeling the same way. I have a bunch of Stormcast sitting around and this model actually makes me want to paint them all lol.

I have 2 of those from the Stormcast Paint Set I got to get into mini painting and the #1 Mortal Realms, I love that model too. Those 3 Stormcast Eternals are very popular for conversions and people out there made some really awesome models from them. I still have some unpainted and I want to try different Stormhost color schemes on them .

@14:46 every time I see people 1000 times better than me do eyes, they always seem to creep into the "uncanny valley" for me. This is the first time I've looked at any photographed mini's eyes and said "that's actually good eyes."

I know what you mean, they can look almost too real and then it makes the whole model look off. Personally, I’m pretty bad at eyes lol, so I like to go for glowing or animal eyes. It keeps the models firmly planted in fantasy, and looks pretty cool :)

Off topic, but I need help (and for anyone else, this is a PSA): I stupid self decided to buy a Forgeworld Cerastus Knight off of eBay for $180 that was built and primed black and, after stripping off the primer in an attempt to weaken the glue, discovered that the cast quality was bad enough to make a Russian recast look great. Moreover, the guy must've used a glue that was made in Krypton as I cannot break the kit down (and he assembled it terribly in a few places). Can't return it and I don't know what to do with now.....make it a heavily rusted Zombot or try to get rid of it completely?

Interesting, I’ve been there for sure. You might be able to use some CA de activator to break down the glue, if it is in fact CA. On the other hand you can freeze it for a while and try and chip the glue off. Doing a rusted giant robot is also a very valid option, and probably what I would go for if I were in your place. Hopefully you can save it man, those are cool models.

@@eBayMiniatureRescues Unfortunately, it may be 2 stage epoxy glue as that's the only glue I'm aware of that no chemical can't break without destroying resin (castrol super degreaser can terminate 2 stage epoxy glue, but it will destroy resin), so I might as well just go with operation rust bucket. Also, the full plan for the rust bucket scheme was to try to clean some of the areas where casting failed and EMPHASIS the other defected areas (and there's plenty I can't get to) through heavy weathering and have a backstory where it's basically a Sentient Zombie Robot but still loyal to the Imperium. Now, as I binge rewatch your videos to figure myself out, I'm just debating on whether to make it a Junkyard Zombot theme (Character Yellow and Steel with blue eyes) or a Legion of the Damned theme (Magnesium and Wine Red with orange eyes).

I don't have access to Scale 75 where i am, do you have any recommendations on skin tons that look good when washed with Reik Fleshshade? I have easy access to GW/Vallejo

Both Vallejo and GW have awesome skin tones. Dwarf skin from Vallejo is one of my favorites, and Cadian fleshtone from GW is always a good go to for light skin tones. Most pink flesh tones look great with the flesh wash too, you can’t really go wrong there.

Not my favorite but still nice. I think there’s too much Oxide even for old armor. Makes you think, “This chick has never cleaned her shield? Weird for an eternal.”

For sure, this was kind of a precursor to a few other models I've been working on. I'm really trying to nail the overall oxide look, and moving into doing a concept army for stormcast or kharadron overlords. or both.
