@davesmith826
@davesmith826 12 күн бұрын
@@celtic333ful The only question you should ask yourself is whether it's true. I doubt he'd make it up and that tells you Ireland were - despite some valiant attempts to portray this as a mark of 'respect' on this forum - getting ahead of themselves. You CANNOT assume you will be in the final before you've reached the knock-outs and anyone who counts out the All Blacks is a fool. It's especially counterproductive if you've never passed the quarter finals, and when you've just clinched a tight game against an SA side that would have won had they brought their kicking boots. I say this as a half Irish, half South African. I want the Irish to win the next World Cup but they will not if they believe their own hype. For many years the All Blacks were the same - wiping the floor with all and sundry in between world cups and then wilting under the bright lights of the Webb Ellis. More than a few people in the Irish set up need to cultivate a more humble mindset. Sexton's antics after the NZ loss gives a good indication of the sense of entitlement he had. Neither the ABs nor the Boks would EVER say 'see you in the final' in a group stage game because they know better than anyone how silly it is to put the cart before the horse in knock out rugby.

I only ever heard any of the Irish players say things like “not thinking about the final, only thinking about the next game”. After the Sa v Ire game, adrenaline would have been high and banter kicks in. As for the team going around the field after and clapping, that’s showing their huge gratitude to their magnificent fans. I personally am not a fan of Zombie, much rather they stuck to Fields of Athenry, or Ireland’s Call, both v passionate songs with meaning.

Hang on - “we will get them back, if they make it”. Presuming SA were gonna make to the final as well buddy (despite what is said after about pitching up for France). Pick a lane. If NZ hadn’t brought Schmidt onboard just before the World Cup and Farrell subs Sexton off when you look knackered,Ireland were winning that game. But if my uncle had a fine set of bangers etc etc. I live in NZ by the way. As soon as NZ lost to SA the target was on Irelands back. No doubt. SA will be licking their lips for the summer. They have their perceived slight to weaponise now. And Ireland going in to the lions (Boks) den to try to prove they have a seat at the table, first up visitors too. Can’t wait!

Love the way he says Ireland were cocky to say something like see you in the final and then immediately turns around and says we’ll get them back-if they make it-which was no guarantee playing France at home Constant chatter in Ireland was could they make it out of a quarter final breaking what feels like our doomed fate and cursing the fact it was the ABs. Most people probably were similar to BOD in thinking that if (and at that we all knew, bar the normal always overconfident lads that any fan group has) we were able to make it out of the quarter final we would have a really good chance at getting through the semi and making it to a first ever final. The tour the year before was barely a comfort in saying anything more than this is a team we now know we can beat as opposed to 10 years ago feeling could we ever beat them. That Eben thinks the team would be that cocky just shows he doesn’t really get Irish people as opposed to anything about the teams he played. Cause sure as shit, them lads would’ve understood playing the Saffas again would mean going somewhere no Irish team has ever been

Great interview . Eban is a good bloke and a damn good player. Yes I believe ireland got ahead of themselves but there is nothing wrong with being confident and why wouldnt they be with the way the previous four years had unfolded for them. Interesting comment at the end when Eban is told 'you guys have done a good job over the last 8 years of being on top'. Yes two world cups however only one Rugby championships and the All blacks won the other 7 yes to be crowned world chamion is one thing but in reality it is just one tournament so hardly on top. You need to sustain the momentum to keep the title legit. The AB's have in the past had a couple of low points . The early 2000's was similar to what they have just gone through with Foster in charge. Historically though they have come back stronger and gone on a long winning streak. The introduction of Razor Robinson as coach could well be the beginning of another one of those cycles { maybe }. Will be interesting to see how his coaching style matches up to Rassie who is a class coach. Another thing to consider is how Aus are going to go with Joe scmidt in charge. Meanwhile I'm really looking forward to see the ireland SA clash. Going to be epic. I cant wait.

I have no problem with Ireland saying see you in the final. You have to be confident and think you will beat everybody especially when they had the run of wins they had. Same with Eben saying we will get them back if they get there. Same mindset but maybe a little more worried about the upcoming opponents. All Blacks played extremely well to beat Ireland in the quarters but I’d argue only SA would have beaten France that day in the Quarter finals. France played insanely well. Also you have to give SA credit for playing the hardest World Cup run to the finals and winning.

Find it very hard to believe that "12"(??!!) Irish players said this in the manner it's being interpreted. That is not the culture of this team, nor has it ever been. Irish rugby has come from very humble beginnings. Indeed, it's probably the longest "end of the beginning" experienced in sporting history! The national fear experienced before, and during, the game with NZ was very tangible. A reaction to the previous tour was expected. And experienced. A great match though.... I recall an awful lot of fuss being made about Bongi calling out "wit kant" during the game with England. Now that got of knickers twisted! As a result of the reaction, I got to learn a lot Afrikaans (and Dutch), in a very short period of time. For that I am grateful 😉 If you want to believe this interpretation as being arrogant, then so be it. In that case, Ireland is simply joining in with the significant arrogance that's been on display for a considerably long time by all of the majors in world rugby. If you can't beat them, join them....I guess.
