As a child growing up within the elite class of Nigeria at the time, my late mom used to listen to Obey’s songs. I hated the songs then because I felt it was too local. But today, I value Obey’s songs more than ever.

Akanni Dokunmu ti ku. God rest his soul. I saw him in his white Rolls Royce Bodija Estate circa early 70s Ibadan. He smiled and was driven away by his chauffeur. I stood there speechless for minutes. A remarkable presence he was.

My first recollection of any music was by Ebenezer Obey's. My dad played different tracks for different occasions. I love it especially when played during Naming Ceremonies - it was fun time and pamper time. Love the attention showered on me by all my many aunties and uncles at the Ceremonies and days after.before they all go back to their respective homes...Miss those time. Thanks Baba Obey for making those years memorable.

There is more to Cheif Commander Songs to me than just listening and enjoying music. I believe we have very much in common before coming to this world. I can't listen to his songs without tears rolling down my cheeks. I stop listening to his song during work because so many people will keep asking me if all is well with me... I can't put myself together. it breaks me to the bone marrow....

Honestly I wouldn't know who these people are but the truth is that even people from Jesus Christ clan did not like him with all the good things that He did.Don't get me wrong I am not saying that they should all like who we like but they should at least look at it from the stand point that Ebenezer Obey did not go to University and he is made a Professor, common now let's give honour to whom honour is due.Different times I always wonder what could be going on in Obey's mind when he composed a particular song. Finally what I have to tell these people that gave thumbs down is that there are just two musicians in Nigeria and even probably in the world and they are Ebenezer Obey and the rest.May he live long for us,Amen.
