I've been wanting this amp since it came out. you're making me want it more. Tinnitus sucks. I have a weird form of it from photographing bands all through high school and college. Now at 40 when volume gets too loud it sounds like a kazoo in my right ear. Saw a Dr he said he could cut the muscle which is over acting but then I'd have zero natural protection to loud noise. So i deal with it. Back to the gear. Never saw the attenuator before that is neat. Just got a new guitar a few months ago maybe I can convince the Mrs to let me get this amp once they start showing up used at GeetarCntr. Cheers from Portland, Maine.

Regrettably ,the reverb went wonky and defective after 2 weeks. I loved that amp. GC was great about their 45 day money back guarantee. Unfortunately there wasn’t anymore in stock locally. So I’m now the proud owner of an original ‘68 drip edge Vibro Champ. I can’t believe the reliability and how good this 55 year old amp sounds. Another diamond in the rough is the old Fender Frontman series. Specifically the 25r. If you swap the speaker out for a better one, you can get some amazing sounds out of it and for pretty cheap too. I put a 10" Celestion in mine and it's just a beast. Fine for a small room. If I need bigger, I'd just mic it. I love all Fender amps though. For anybody who thinks they are too tough to suffer from hearing damage, watch the movie "Sound of Metal". You';ll rethink it. I wish I was smart enough to wear hearing protection when I was young. These days, the ringing in my ear is louder than most chainsaws. Great video by the way. Love the tones of this little gem of an amp. Especially with P-90's
@EricHaugenGuitar3 жыл бұрын
I'm terrified to watch that movie because it hits too close to home! I have significant damage at 8000hz and have been informed by my audiologist that at some point in my life I will need hearing aids. Did your ringing steadily get worse year by year, or were there events that made it jump from one level to "chainsaw" level?
@jeremythornton4333 жыл бұрын
@@EricHaugenGuitar It varies. I think it's just a thing that has worsened over time but not so much in the last several years. The "chainsaw level" is the worse than it ever gets and I've learned that if I take something like Tylenol or have coffee, it gets bad. At other times it's barely noticeable. I've been wearing hearing protection for many years now. I can't think of anything that actually caused it to get worse. I may have slightly exaggerated by using "chainsaw" as an example but I was also really trying to get people to learn and protect their hearing. It's important and it doesn't get better. I'm almost 66 now and I have friends who are in far worse shape than I m and refuse to wear protection. Not smart. I work in a very loud shop and the first thing I do is put in ear plugs or put on ear muffs. I think in some ways though I'm fortunate in that I figured it out right away. I get my ears tested every 2 years and for the last several, not much has changed. Fingers crossed! Protect your ears! It's the law and it's a good one!

I look forward each week for our time together. It makes me think about guitar a little different and I take away some good points. I think you are right about getting an attenuator for my tube amp. My band is medium loudness, but we have switched to an in-ear monitor. The QSC Touchmix 16. We no longer have to crank the amps to be at the audio level of the drummer, but I loose the crunch of the amp by being quiet. I'll look into the Webber. I don't really know what is important for an attenuator. I'm playing through a Peavey Classic 50 212.

Oooh the Peavey classic series are SOLID! At 50w, you may need the bigger version of the weber the "mass." Just like with speakers, you want the attenuator to be able to handle more than the max wattage of your amp.

LOVE IT. Can you please do a sequel with your Mustang?

Next up, you'll see this amp paired with my Vox Bobcat for a lesson on the Dorian Mode - eventually you'll see it with all my guitars :- )

The "trashy" sounds also reminds me of 'Peace Frog" by the Doors. Probably due to the G chord but still. Sounds great.

What a great demo! Interesting using an attenuator even for a 5 watt amp. Can it do Led Zep type lead sounds? Thanks again!
@EricHaugenGuitar3 жыл бұрын
Yeah! Even at 5 watts this thing had to be easily over 100db!

Have you ever tried Kingley tube preamp pedals (or other tube preamp pedals operating at actual tube voltage) going into an IR cab simulator? I have a Squire 86 from Kingsley that I run into an irdium and it sounds great for me - but I've never really played a tube amp at volume so I'm curious what you'd think of such a set up. I think it's a good option for bedroom players.

I haven't tried that setup but I'm sure it's good! There's a lot of clever options these days!

True. If you like it, it’s good.

Yes, I love a good double-cut Junior. The best ever is Tom Bukovac's.

What's that opening riff, 'the 'porpoise song' by The Monkees? I wasn't expecting that! That was a nice surprise 🥹
