If the government is so concerned with our safety then build better and safer bike Lanes for electric bikes electric scooters add regular bikes we don't need any more regulations we need safer bike Lanes we shouldn't have to go out and get a license and registration just to ride an electric bike riding a bike it's about freedom riding a bike is a right not a privilege I just hope the government doesn't ruin it for us

Been a while since I’ve checked in. We are battling stage 4 cancer & boy this is tough on us 🥹 I’m in California and basic laws / common sense are easily followed. We both got our Safety certificates through California CHP safety course. This will be required if an accident occurs. Very simple & common sense of rules of the road will easily answer the 3 questions at the end of the videos. Registration & Insurance will be next but I’ve heard insurance companies are trying to figure out policies. Either way it’s just a money grab from the government. I sure hope we beat this cancer so we can enjoy our E-bikes again. Life sure is precious & we should never take it for granted.

Hi Richard, I’m in the UK and we have tough laws. No bikes on the footpaths, it’s illegal😭 E scooters are illegal and confiscated on sight. If you are on the road with a E scooter and are stopped you get 6 points on your driving licence. I’d love one🤷 E bikes are limited to 15.5 mph , after that the motor cuts out, this is the reason I won’t buy one because, I ride faster than that on our flat fenland. People here demonise E bikes, scooters, skateboards etc and yet, I see them as a great alternative to electric wheelchairs for example for less able people. I'm going to get out ahead of these crazy laws and register my next build as a moped. Don't have any issues currently, but it could be a matter of time. I don't have very good politicians in my area.

Bend OR hadan almost adult killed by a car. They have placed restrictions on ebikes. Not the cars,how is restricting the victims going to protect them from cars?

I hope Amanda is doing well. I live in Illinoyed. Gov. jbp loves taxes, so he will regulate and tax e-bikes, while promoting weed, EVS... and worse. Should be local. I think a minimum age limit is needed and I agree with speed limits on paths because they are narrow, and have strollers and dogs. The speed limit should also apply to the spandex riders because they ride for speed.

Sarasota is in a very strict area for Florida plus having an HOA , It could get bad for you ,I'm in Lake County they would never do it here, there's lots of golf carts here too....

In Illinois you have to ride bikes on the road. No sidewalk riding. Also, must be 16 yrs old and above to ride anything with a motor. This even includes lawn mowers!

There is not a problem here, so no new laws are being introduced. The best thing to do would be for the local police to talk to the person who is ripping around causing the issue rather than put restrictions on everyone else. My local trails are posted at 15 mph although there is no enforcement and regular road bikes go faster than that. I don’t think there would be an enforcement effort unless there was a problem where people got hurt. My understanding is the person who died was not wearing a helmet. I don’t know if they are required wherever they were because sometimes helmet laws get about as political as gun laws. In my area my county doesn’t require helmets, but the larger county south of here does. My opinion is that it would be nice for a lot of things to be the same everywhere instead of 50 states and 5000 counties all doing their own thing, but I understand that that particular issue goes all the way back to the founding. I will just avoid spending time or money in places that would restrict or ban my e-bike. I normally ride 10-15mph on my bike. If I wanted to go fast, I would ride my motorcycle

In Daytona beach ( volusia county) on the beach you can only ride e-bikes on the beach where vehicles are allowed. you can not ride them where non driving areas are however regular bikes are allowed. I still see them in areas they are not allowed. I’m not sure how enforcement is but I also don’t think people that go in the areas that you not allowed to are causing any issues that I have heard.

In Europe, Belgium specifically we have "bike lanes" for all bicycles on almost every road, with 2 classes of ebikes. first class anyone can ride but it has to have a top speed of 25km/h or 15mph. The other class you have to register the bike, (you even get a cute number plate) You have to be 16+ and have a minimum of a scooter license, and you have to wear a helmet. With a top speed of 45km/h or 28mph. Being a cyclist myself and a car/motorcycle user. I would say these regulations are needed. I will even say the faster class is a menace on the road and shouldn't be there. When you have to share the road with a cyclist and one of them is faster than the other, it makes it very difficult to judge the speed when turning into a road, the bicycles have priority here and if you assume they are on a slow class, sadly being wrong can lead to them being right next to you a lot faster than you expect and accidents are often hard to avoid. Leads to disruption in traffic because you just can`t assume, its better to always wait for them....

The electric bike is not here yet I have one and I have seen 5 others in a 10 mile area of my house. There much larger amounts of road bikes and mountain bike. the main highway are dangerous enough for cars. The small road are safer as car do go slower. I live 10 miles from any towns there are 3 within that distance they have to have state wide rules to cover me which could happen.

Just like several other issues, a very few that ride in a reckless manner, draw attention to all ebike riders in a negative light.

That is definitely not a city thing , they don't even bother stopping dirt bikes from riding the streets and It didn't seem like they did anything about the surrons from riding down in Miami

Haven’t been watching because you’ve been doing trikes and I could care less about them. Some ebike laws are understandable. Riding on sidewalks,etc. Exceeding speed limit in neighborhoods.Those I understand. 👍🏼💥💫🚴

how this all plays out will depend on how many people ride ebikes. if it is ubiquitous like driving a car, then there will not be bans and stupid restrictions even if some people do stupid things and die by not wearing basic safety equipment. i think we'll see kids being 'banned ' from them, since they can't vote. but I'm not a kid so i could not really care less. i think ebikes will effectively replace amish bikes. it will just take a few more years till it simply becomes impossible to refer to them separately from bicycles. non electric will be niche. i would not look at Florida as an example of what is rational and normal for government though. so am i worried about what they pass laws for? no, because i don't live anywhere near them. though I'm sure there are plenty of little towns filled with old people who make laws about anything younger people do that they don't like that we'll see pop up. young in this case seems to be anyone who still has fun.

I live in the state of Ma. When e-bikes first came out the state ban them at first with public outrage they let it pass but we do have restrictions, can’t go any faster then 20 mph, can’t ride on sidewalks and some bike paths it’s not allowed, in my city you don’t see a lot of e-bikes I do go to a bike path that do allow them, I can’t tell you how many negative comments I get, I get a lot of your not supposed to ride that here, go ride on the street like your supposed to from people on regular bikes and the walkers…i love riding my e-bike I would be devastated if it was band but unfortunately I think it’s a matter of time

You actually think people care what laws they make? Look at Miami. They race mini bikes down A1A My area just outside Orlando in the sea of houses, mini bikes, motorized bikes, and golf carts are regular modes of transportation. This is Florida. Laws are suggestions. Don't ride like an asshole and the cops will leave you alone.

Answer is simple, just like any motorized vehicle, you place age restrictions. The sidewalks here are going the other way, they are working to make them wider and more accessible for e-bikes , some even have dotted lines down the middle, the city prefers riders use them over the streets, our traffic problems are so bad, e-bikes don’t need to be on the ride, slowing traffic. And it’s safer for everyone. Bikers do need to more considerate to walkers, slow down, right of way. No different than being in a car. I even stop and pull off ahead of walkers, I want them to know they are safe. And dogs, I always stop for dog walkers. I don’t want a dog to scare off , or react to my bike. It’s not fair to the owner walking the dog, I can sense their hesitance when they see me coming. Be respectful.

I don't think a12 year old should be on an ebike .Let them learn on a regular bike. But the problem is fly by night companies are making more and more powerful ebikes to go faster and faster. I have seen people on ebikes that go 50 mph and more. This to me is not an ebike. So what is the solution? I see regulations coming that will limit what an ebike is by power and speed rather than does it have working pedals. So rumors I have heard from several political leaders are changing what is considered an ebike. 1. Ebike that would be considered the same as a bicycle would be a bike with a motor to assist and limited in power to 750 watts. There would be no throttle and the only way to ride the bike would be to pedal it. The mph would be 20. So basically a class 2 ebike that has no throttle. But would be allowed anywhere a bicycle can go. And the new name would be Assisted Bicycle 2. Electric Bicycle or electric moped would be any bike with a throttle regardless of the speed it can go or power it has. They would require registration. These bikes would be allowed on bike lanes but not on sidewalks or greenways or state park trails. The bike lanes would have a speed limit of 25 mph. If caught over the speed limit, they can be given a ticket just like a car. Also liability insurance required for any bike with a throttle plus a helmet and age restriction, I heard 16 year old being thrown around.
