The CD thing didn't work because only DVDs are made up of two halves. You can see at 12:50 that "his dad's CD collection" are all writable DVDs

There are dual-layer CDs and single-layer DVDs. Regardless, It should work with single-layer disks as well. Disks are made of two main parts, a foil that is the storage medium and resin that keeps the foil in place. Remove the foil from any disk and it should work. If you're a pedantic nerd like me check out Technology Connections they cover it really well.

The reason why will and James’ last tictiok didn’t work is because in the video you can the exact time it jump cuts to a elephant toothpaste video, you can tell it’s elephant toothpaste because 1. It changes colour 2. At the very end you can see steam coming of it 3. Coke and mentos do fizz the not to extend that the video shows and that’s why WILL AND JAMES SHOULD GET SECOND CHANCE
