I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use kzfaq.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

I’ve used the sthil 4-mix and echo professional tools for 15years. Never had a problem with either brand. The 4-mix warms up way faster than the 2-strokes and the low end grunt is awesome for weedeating. The valves aren’t hard to adjust AT ALL but I like both, they are both quality machines.

What did you mean by "low end grunt" on the 4-mix Stihl engine? The 4-mix engine is difficult to feather the throttle. It likes to be run at maximum throttle only.

Got the 3020T about 3 weeks ago and loving it! It's a beast of a string trimmer. Also got the brush cutter conversion kit for whenever I need it as well. The stihl autocut 25-2 head holds 25-30 feet of string vs the 12-15 feet of string that the speedfeed 400 holds. I have a echo srm280t and a stihl km130r and I always see myself going to my stihl over my echo.

I just bought a Stihl FS91R a couple of weeks back and I'm loving the extra torque that comes with the 4-mix engine. It eats through stuff that used to take me an age even with my FS94. All my guys love it now lol I did find that with the Stihl speed feed head and guard on though I could hardly get any line out so with it off it runs 10x better because I can actually run a normal length of line

@@CopperCreekCuts I would agree with that but you shouldn't need to do it that often. My dealer said once a year maybe but it really isn't that big of a deal. I've had my BR700 for a large portion of this year now and haven't had a single issue with it. If your running a busy lawn service week round you might need your valves adjusted once every 100 hours and its something your dealer should be able to do in no time at all just when you take it in for its regular service.

Great video brad I've seen a lot of them now. You make good points about the Echo advantages and cheaper price point as well. People seem to be happy enough with Echo build quality. I recently bought a Stihl kombi 131 and I like it but it costs over 100 bucks more than the srm3020 (attachment version). I also recently got an echo 8010 blower and I love it. Lately.. I started getting more serious and taking my landscaping from a weekend thing to full time. I still have all my electric stuff and I like it but.. .when I'm string trimming the weeds down in a big lot on a hot day I need my gas string trimmer. My Milwaukee 18 volt string trimmer overheats every time under heavy use on a hot day. It takes maybe 15-20 minutes for that thing to overheat on a 90 degree+ day , just like you showed with the Ego backpack battery unit overheating while use on a hot day in your other video. I have an Ego backpack blower and I use it all the time for small jobs but its obviously very weak compared to the echo 8010 gas blower and I'm glad I have the 8010 ready to go for next fall. Please excuse my rant and thanks for the videos man!

I used to have an FS90R and when I adjusted the valves with the proper feeler gauge it would start hard and have poor throttle response. For some reason if I adjusted them at .008" it would always start first pull and have wicked throttle response. It would also seemingly never stay in carb adjustment for very long. That was a low hour residential machine, glad I sold that POS. That pretty much sums up my experience with every Stihl product I've ever owned. Hard starting, and constant carb adjustments...

You literally have to buy an 111 or a 131 to run real blades for brush cutting..I really wish echo had more dealers around the Ohio valley because I’d have went with the echo all day. I own a lot of stihl equipment and have no real issues other than how they get you on the little things like mentioned above. My old man has ran an echo for ten years and the thing is a monster, no issues AT ALL. one of the old grey ones.

The Stihl 4mix run great for the first one or two years after that they start running like crap after the second valve adjustments they never run right again I have echos 266T 280T that are over 6 years old and never have major issues like Stihl another problem we have with Stihl are the timing gears go bad and also melt cuz they are plastic and it cost over $100 to replace and fix echos all you have to replace every two to three years is there carbs which it's only $40 bucks to replace if you do it yourself and on echos you don't have to spend a ton of money buying fully synthetic oil like 4mix requires just regular echo oil or Stihl orange bottle oil which is a lot cheaper echo is the way to go me and my pops have been using echos for more then 30 years.

Yeah 4 mix/ 4 stroke hybrid are high maintenance compared to 2 stroke trimmer plus 4 mix spin on bumper with auto cut 25-2 slower too you have to keep hitting full throttle I can explain it more if you wanna me too. I got rid of my fs110r and got KM131r. I hope km131r will last me more than 3 years. Plus got speedfeed 450 to help km131r spin faster so I don’t have to hit full throttle no more just 1/4 to half throttle that it. 4 stroke/ 4 mix/4 stroke hybrid engine itself have more movement parts which mean more potential to failure compared to 2 stroke counterpart. Only reason I got it cause of fuel economy/efficiency... 4 stroke use wide throttle and bottom end torque instead of narrower throttle and use midrange to high end torque like 2 cycle. That why 2 stroke spin head bumper faster. BTW I am die hard 2 stroke fan.
@MattsRageFitGarage
@MattsRageFitGarage 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I got my grandfathers old FS90R which is about 12 years old now and I have a heck of a time keeping it running right. For some reason if I set the valves with the Stihl feeler gauge at .004" the acceleration sucks and it has no mid range power it just bogs out. If I double the valve clearance it accelerates really well and runs a lot better and starts easier. It's just a residential use machine that probably doesn't even have 50 hours on it and its been through 2 carbs, 2 ignition modules, several spark plugs, fuel lines and all the other common stuff. Not too impressed with the reliability of this thing, although it does run nice when running right. I'm tempted to sell the damn thing and buy a Echo SRM 266 or 2620 to replace it. Never had any issues out of my Echos other than old fuel lines and regular tune ups. My SH85 blower also gives nothing but troubles. Can't ever keep that thing running right and its next to new mechanically. I bought a PB-580T because of that thing. I regret selling my PB250 and SRM230, should have sold this Stihl shit and kept my tried and true machines. Oh well, I know better now.

Keep your eyes peeled for dealer days on both brands. You can save significant money. Echo does their fleet sale day and stihl has dealer days. Check with your local dealers for when it is. I got my Stihl equipment for around 20 dollars more than a comparable Echo. I’ve found the 4-Mix to be more reliable in my experience. I took the time to learn how to adjust valves. Only had to adjust an older pole pruner and it was 4 years of daily use on it before it needed the adjustment. Your mileage may vary

Bump feeding isn't that hard with the U handles. Set your harness back a little closer to the engine and pull the handles back to get comfortable. Then the balance is more biased towards the cutter head and you don't have to wave it about like you're trying to snap it in half to make it feed! It's much easier to pull the handles to lift it and then let it drop than it is to try to push it downwards against the weight of the engine. It should feed just with it's own weight from around 12" off the ground.

But if something does happen we just drive 10 minutes to Walden Power Equipment and get it fixed either the same day or the next day. The equipment is over 6 years old at this point, some even older. ECHO is a high up brand, I've used them before, I have nothing against the brand, but in my opinion STIHL is a little better.

Bill Rayland, yes they are but try moving the harness clip first, you just have to move them forward or back if you want the bars themselves adjusted. If you want the whole thing, set it flat on the ground keep the bars straight and loosen the screws on the bottom and move up or back a little bit. You may have to adjust all of them.

Unless the ACE store did some funny stuff, the shoulder strap is what comes with the 111. The salesman said stepping up to the 131 got the better harness, but I wanted the 111 because the engine displacement matches closer to the 3020. Anyway, they didn't have any 111s in stock, so they had to order some. They gave me the box and everything in it, and the shoulder strap is all I got!

I have used both Echo and Stihl equipment. The review was nicely done; however, wouldn't the correct comparison be the FS 131 and the SRM 3020? The FS 111 competes with the SRM 2620 in price and specs. I am very glad you did compare the big two brands used in my area.
@CopperCreekCuts
@CopperCreekCuts 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, and great question! I guess it is all open to interpretation on if you are going by price or engine size. The FS131 has a 36.3CC engine and clocks in at $430, where the FS111 is 31.4 cc at $400 and the 3020U is 30.5 cc $450.00.
@nsatoday
@nsatoday 6 жыл бұрын
In my area the FS 131 can be had for around $400.00 and I was looking at the power outputs as well as street prices in my area. The engine size is a good point, but in my mind the fuel economy of the 4-mix's levels that for me. I look at Dealer support, Power, and price. In that order. I enjoy your videos a lot. I would also be interested in seeing some red max comparisons too.
@nsatoday

The FS 111R is rated by Stihl @1.4HP, the 131 @1.9. and I believe the SRM 2620 is rated @1.35HP and the SRM 3020 @1.8HP. I have no idea what the 3020's street price would be because they aren't available in my area yet. I can tell you I bought an FS 111R for $359.00 in May or June and a SRM 280s for approximately the same money when I purchased a ZT mower last year
@CopperCreekCuts
@CopperCreekCuts 6 жыл бұрын
@@nsatoday See? It is tricky! Do you go by HP? If so the 131 is the mark to compare to. Engine class? Then you have to back down to the 111. Also, as a disclaimer, the "u" handle brushcutters will always be an extra $30-$50 bucks than the regular handle trimmers in the line up, and I am basing my numbers off them.

Yes, power and price. I can get Stihl and Echo below MSRP. I've found them to be comparable on price. when I priced the FS 111R and the 2620 they were about a 30 dollar spread if I remember correctly. thats close enough to me that the cost difference was negligible.

I only did maintenenence worked in 100 degree weather. It was used heavily. I see landscape trucks with older echo equipment my advice for owning 2 stroke trimmers run 40.1 instead of 50.1 and use good quality trimmer line. Husqvarna also makes the 535LST at 2.15hp (vs. 2.3hp on the 240R) and is a whole 2 1/2 lbs lighter for barely any noticeable performance change. To each their own though.
