I understand the concern, but consider the one simple fact that all of the promotional material of TOTK exists in which they heavily featured the sky islands, and completely didn’t at all feature The Depths. Nintendo doesn’t want to just show us their entire hand, they want us to experience it for ourselves

I don't think the tri-rod will be zelda's only weapon since on the D-Pad, there are 3 more open slots along with the tri-rod. I'm excited to see what they are or how we'll get them
@javiervasquez625
@javiervasquez625 Ай бұрын
It is worth noting though that at no point during the trailer we ever see a sword _icon_ on either of the 3 slots leaving one wondering wether if Zelda will share any conventional means of attack from previous games or if she will have brand unique abilities which Link has never used before. If it's the latter this might only further point at Echoes of Wisdom taking a more original approach to top down gameplay never before seen in the series. All that said i'm still very much excited to find out what they are and how we'll be able to use them.

If you see the trailer in the left side you can see an interface where the staff is mapped to the right button of the d-pad. The other 3 are free. Why would they put that if Zelda is not using other weapons or items aside the staff?

@@javiervasquez625 True, but this was the first ever trailer, and Nintendo may not want to show us all their cards just yet, instead they introduce one (key) element first for us to digest. My hope for this game is that it will be mainly puzzle solving in combat, but that some type of item is introduced later on in the game so that the player has more of a choice if the puzzle solving gets tedious - like the light bow or some magic attack.

I personally find this game frustrating, as it tries to break conventions of a formula that no one had a problem with to begin with. The worst part is that this is the first new 2D Zelda game since 2013. To me, it comes off as Nintendo not really caring about the legacy that built up the franchise just in an attempt to make something innovative. It’s just like what they did with Paper Mario Color Splash or Federation Force, both good games in a vacuum, but within the context of their release were just really tone deaf releases. In my opinion, though I am not a game designer, there are ways to innovate and expand the freedom for the player in more tasteful ways than what it seems what they are doing here. Aonuma claimed that he didn’t even know how many echos were in the game, which is concerning because it seems like there won’t be nearly as much care put into the overall structure of the game and it’s various secrets and mechanic like I would see in other 2D Zelda games. Maybe I am reading too much into that, but it’s hard to tell so early.

I love Link to the Past, Link Between Worlds, Minish Cap, Twilight Princess, and all the old Zelda games. We'll always have those games, and I see Echoes of Wisdom as a chance to experience something totally new that would never be possible if they weren't willing to do something weird. If ALL we had was echoes, that would still be an interesting game, but I have a feeling we've only seen the tip of the iceberg of what they are doing with this title. Either way, It'll be slotted in my Switch in September

Or until Anouma is retired. Let's be real here, Open World Zelda with Dark Souls elements has already burnt out a LOT of people, open world games in general are starting to hit burnout. Anouma needs to realize while he may have good ideas he also needs to listen to the fanbase now and then even if it means shelving those ideas for a little while longer. There isn't a single NEW Zelda game on Switch that's a traditional Zelda game the only ones that are, are remakes.
@BirdieSenpai
@BirdieSenpai Ай бұрын
@@megaman37456 Even if Aonuma retires, I worry that Fujibayashi will take the franchise even further from its traditions. While Aonuma may believe that any desire for traditional Zelda is fueled by cranky old guys like me hating anything new, he's still the same guy who demoted himself from producer to director in order to save Twilight Princess and make it into the last fully traditional 3D Zelda game. Fujibayashi is the guy who retconned the story of the Master Sword, what Ganondorf exactly is, the nature of the royal bloodline, how the spirit of the hero operates, and how Hyrule came to be settled and later established. He's the #2 guy working on Zelda, but I fear he's still the Capcom outsider he was in 2000 with regard to Zelda's traditions. He made some games most consider classic Zelda today, like the Oracles, Four Swords, and The Minish Cap, but, for their time, they broke many series conventions and steered Zelda in a new direction, especially after Twilight Princess, once we got to Skyward Sword, and he's broken series conventions on an unprecedented level these past eight years, with or without Aonuma. It's my sincerest hope that Aonuma's eventual retirement doesn't prove that he was the hand restraining Fujibayashi from completely transforming Zelda into something it's not. I just can't see the man who played perhaps the greatest role in solidifying what 3D Zelda was through OoT, MM, TWW, and TP turning 180 degrees and being the driving force between dismantling what all four of those games established. That's not to say that either man is a bad developer or that Aonuma fell off in any way; both are fantastic developers, but their present style just isn't what I want to become the norm for my former favorite franchise.

@@BirdieSenpai Not to be critical as i'm wholeheartedly in support of much of your points but i'm fairly certain none of the key Lore points regarding the Master Sword, Ganondorf and the Royal Family have been outright retconned by the events of both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom as the two games are quite vehemently still canon to the previous games in the 3 timelines as proven by key plotpoints such as Fi still been inside the Master Sword since Skyward Sword, the new Ganondorf from TotK been a _reincarnation_ like in Four Swords Adventures and the Triforce been *inside* Zelda as her "Sealing Power" across games in the Wild duology. Just because you think Nintendo is explicitly changing the Lore to suit the supposed "new Lore" established in the Wild duology there's no evidence pointing at them doing so to suggest that's indeed what is happening.
@BirdieSenpai

@@javiervasquez625 Ganondorf went from a well-intentioned fallible man to the inevitable and cyclical result of the curse by an ancient demon. The royal family went from a fallible family of fallible people to a divine family who were established by Hylia. The Master Sword went from being forged by the Sages as a just in case to being made by Hylia in preparation for a specific and cyclical threat. The hero went from someone who rose up in response to a threat to someone who was put there on purpose in response to the cycle of evil each time it would swing back around. Do you see what I'm getting at? The element of chance and humanity and fallibility were all replaced by Hylia orchestrating everything and Demise causing an endless loop of the same thing happening over and over. The Sages are no longer the makers of the Master Sword. Ganondorf is no longer someone who let his desire to help his people drive him into an obsession with power. TWW Link is no longer just a kid who happened to be at the right place at the right time to end up going on a heroic journey. The royal family us no longer a secretive family with blood on their hands as a result of selfish decisions. Now it's all Hylia and Demise. It's no longer human but divine. No longer chance but orchestration. No longer decision but cycle.

This kinda reminds me of "Just Cause 3&4". An open world game where you have to cause chaos and destruction in fun and creative ways. Letting a gas-tank crash into things and what not. And what seems fun at first... nothing beats shooting stuff and the use of grenades. Sure, it isn't this creative, but it gets the job done much quicker and more direct, since you have better control of the outcome. And in this Zelda game, the devs also want us to be creative... without giving us the Sword (machine gun, grenades). I don't know which game it was, but I watched a review about an FPS with some creative weapons and so on... and the reviewer said "Nothing beats a bullet to the head.". So it's nice to have some toys to play around with... but everything is just far inferior compared to the direct way. As soon as I watched the first trailer of this game, I was kinda excited... but the fear already hit me and you described it perfectly. Taking the direct approach away may lead to creativity, but it also leads to frustration, cause you have to rely on the unreliable.

I'll just spam Deku-Babas and ReDeads and fucking enjoy it - and obliterate Zelda's enemies with this mechanical Octorok-thingy. Honestly, I never minded the waiting against Stalfos in OoT, because the rest of the game was so good - and I have absolute faith that EoW will be the same. Also, I think that the bosses are (hopefully) just too strong to be defeated by summoning 1 or 2 monsters. So we at least will have to dodge their attacks, which in itself is sort of an active action. Also also, getting the Bow of Light would be absolutely amazing!

This might seem like a nitpick, but I'm really not a fan of the Link's Awakening artstyle being carried over to this game. When I think of Zelda, this exciting fantasy adventure with deep lore and fantastic interesting characters and a story about a chosen hero battling evil incarnate, a cutesy toy-like artstyle isn't exactly the first thing I think of. I know Nintendo has always been experimenting with Zelda's artstyle, with Skyward Sword's graphics having a watercolor look to it, Twilight Princess going for a dark, gritty, realistic approach, Breath of the Wild's oil painting-like, realistic landscapes contrasting with the cel-shaded characters, or even Wind Waker's cartoony artstyle, but if you look at Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and Breath of the Wild, they're all variations on the style that was established in Ocarina, and that will always be the definitive Zelda art style to me.

As long as the game has good puzzles like the older ones, I won't mind as much. Besides I feel like they'll definitely lean into the puzzle based situation considering it's Zelda and her triforce of Wisdom (if the triforce is even a thing at this point considering the last two games). Hopefully the story is decent too. Other than that I try to expect nothing so I'm never disappointed.........kind of like how the pokemon games have trained me to think so as of late. If the Heart Piece lying on top of a pillar in the gamebox's cover plus the many "blocked caverns" shown in the trailer are anything to go by i'm sure Nintendo is taking the same approach to exploration as in past 2.0 top down games by filling the gameworld with optional locations and collectables to avoid giving players an extremely linear experience devoid of the gameplay inmersion which most games in the series as a whole have excelled at. Given their track record in regards to extra content i'm sure there's going to be a LOT for us to accomplish aside from the main storyline so i wouldn't be worried if i were you.

My biggest worry is that we’re starting the playable Princess Zelda approach with Zelda herself in “vanilla” status. Since Princess Peach: Showtime, fans have already been discussing about the potential approach of Princess Zelda as this bad@$$ magic-wielding femme fatale having her own game in a similar fashion to her Mushroom Kingdom counterpart. Now that’s not to say it should be “Princess Zelda: Showtime”, but rather having a similar direction of having a more fleshed-out Princess Zelda (some would argue that the Zelda in BOTW & TOTK is too overrated…) with the Triforce of Wisdom in full force. Hyrule Warriors and Super Smash Bros. were the closest to observing Zelda’s magic in action. In my vision of a Zelda-only title, it should have Zelda start out with limited magic and basic abilities, but as the game progresses, Zelda learns almost every aspect of the Triforce of Wisdom to the point of being Goddess-tier. And you’re no doubt wondering which Zelda would fit the role. I was hoping her Smash Ultimate iteration would play the part. Her appearance and personality in Smash Ultimate in both gameplay and cinematics just spell… SPELLS! That’s what she supposedly is, a kung-fu wizard-type spellcaster. That’s how I would’ve wanted the approach to be. Here… she’s in… Fortnite mode… Copying objects and stacking them to overcome obstacles and using chairs to beat up carnivorous pigs… That’s not what I thought of Princess Zelda. I’m not trying to downplay Echoes, but the fact that this is the first step into playable Zelda in a mainline entry… Sora Ltd. and Bandai Namco KNEW what they were doing with Princess Zelda in Smash… but now I guess it’s their burden with what to do with their Meteor Heel stomper…
