So true, and true of positive mental commentary too. It's just added stuff, without purpose. At 64, I find myself speaking less and less, as there's not really much that needs saying. I don't know if my husband appreciates this or not...I haven't asked. 🦋

Amazing! How true is his description of human behavior... If we can only "snap out" of the binding grip of the ego, and the desire to want things to be different than they actually ARE... we find infinite bliss and freedom in the here and now :) Yes, easier said than done... but the door to true happiness is here nevertheless...

He makes the spiritual journey in an unconventional but entertaining way. Some may buy it, some may criticise it, but it makes sense and works for me. I have no selective preference to any particular teacher or master but just anyone who can lead us to connect with our deeper self, the divine, the presence, Buddha nature, primordial awareness, god, or whatever term and name u may call it. I pray that may all come to realize the ultimate nature of one's own soul or consciousness. The formless beyond concepts which is our basic fundamental nature.

Due to circumstances my husband and self had to move into a house we didn't like. We started non stop complaining and even stayed up late to fit it all in and we both ended up with serious illness. Trying to reverse this now but just at beginning and often lapse. Be warned!!
@vlolalaniel4 жыл бұрын
Jean Smyth years ago, Edgar Cayce was helping a woman heal from her pains. Before she left, he told her that in order for the illness to leave her body, she needed to not complain for 24 hours. I tried it myself and it is not possible because the mind is complaining without our consent. We can only catch these thoughts faster each time and choose peace instead. ☺️

I work with people who struggle with identity and self esteem issues to the point where their day to day life experiences cause them a lot of pain. They have suffered for years with emotional pain. They struggle to trust others, and are full of self loathing. I feel that this video is, in some way, mocking them, and also other people who are so full of self reproach that even the slightest remark towards them about the way they do things causes them distress. Not everybody can laugh at the way they experience life. Not everything is an anecdote. If you can laugh at yourself in certain situations it can be a good thing. It can make you see that we are mostly ruled by our ego. This doesn't mean that when we handle a situation in a way that causes us deep distress then we should just try and laugh it off. There are reasons why we react the way we do. You can't just dismiss these reasons! You can't just stop letting thinking ruin the present moment. Surely it is all about self love. Knowing that you are doing the best you can in each situation. Being kind to yourself. I really don't like this clip of Eckhart. I don't find mocking people ( like the person giving somebody a lift in their car in the clip ) funny. Is this what you would call skillful communication? I know that if anybody reads my comment, and if they are fans of Eckhart, they will probably jump to his defense. All I ask is that you try and put yourself in somebody else's shoes. It is not nice if you have been subject to being mocked or belittled all your life and you watch a clip by such a respected man as Eckhart and he is mocking the way a person suffers in silence because he or she doesn't feel like they can express themselves in the moment. Being present is truly a wonderful thing. It is elusive though. Yes, you can use techniques to try and be present. For me, these techniques rarely work. Please let us not mock others. Suffering is not the opportunity to try to be funny or anecdotal.
@RezzhulGames4 жыл бұрын
Dear friend, if I you are willing to let me point out that You are unfortunately, missing the whole point of this video. What he is laughing about is the ego and the illusions that ego produces, and how in some cases they take complete control over us when in fact they are nothing but illusions in form of thoughts created by the very same ego to protect itself and strengthen its own identity. It has nothing to do with mocking anyone or putting someone down, the examples were purely used as a pointer to similar behavior that can make us suffer and not enjoy the present moment as it is. Best of luck to you and may the light follow wherever you go.
@simondo10274 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind reply. As I said in my comment, a fan of Eckhart would probably jump in to defend him, and you did just that. That is your prerogative and I respect that. But why do you assume that i am missing the point of the video? I know exactly what point Eckhart is illustrating. I know that it is about the illusions of the ego. I did imply this in my comment, or maybe it is you missing my point. Either way I still feel that Eckhart is mocking the person in the clip( that person being me, you, anybody ). Have you ever felt the pain of being mocked? If you truly have, you would know that it is very painful. So it is ok to just say " I am mocking you, I am mocking your ego"? The effect is just the same. I don't hear Eckhart saying " be kind to yourself". I feel that is all about loving and accepting yourself. Some people have been mocked and put down all of their childhood. If you have ever read or watched anything on Buddhism then you are reminded of the ego on many occasions. It becomes apparent that the ego is not really who we are on a deep level. It is a "role" that has been thrust upon us. A suit that we faithfully wear. Anyone who follows Eckhart is reminded of the ego, the illusion that this is who we are. The people who I work with and support are also aware that their pain is based on illusion. The problem being that knowing it and feeling different by knowing it are two totally different things. You can't willingly change how you feel consciously. You can only try looking at things from a different perspective, and then hoping that organically your feelings may change. Before Eckhart became, I guess, enlightened he was in a lot of emotional pain. It was excruciating for him. Do you think if he heard somebody telling a story in the same mocking tone that he does in the clip that he would laugh? That he would say " Oh, this is just my ego" ? He would want to hear words of kindness and consideration. I really don't think he would of found these words useful, nor would anybody who is in pain. It is usually when you are in pain that you look for inspiration from books or videos on youtube. When I go in work tomorrow and see people suffering with lots of emotional hurt do you think it would help them if I said " This is only your ego talking, it is not you, don't believe your thoughts!" ? People's pain is real. Telling them that is all an illusion of their egos doesn't help. It is not something to be laughed at or turned into a stand up routine. It is all about respect and sensitivity. I do hope you read this comment without prejudice. Wishing you inner peace.

@@simondo1027ah yes... working towards breaking the illusion of ego is the main path, as you noted some people are on the very beginning some are on its very end. A great reply indeed. And if I may notice and if you are willing enough to openly view this without juding it - seems to me that you are very emotionally involved with things mentioned above, maybe it's because of your line of work or your past. Perhaps something to guide your presence to? Thank you my friend

Thinking is the active part of our Consciousness, We are Eternal, and our Consciousness too. If it was possible to stop thinking, the Eternal Life would never have existed. It was a emotionel crisis that provocated his Glimse, and he is still confused. We are the Eternal Here and Now, (the only 'steady point' in existence) our thoughts is Motion, and without there would not be any Life.

Can you explain how the present moment or concsiousness as you say bring benifits to one's life?
@teddytibbs20324 жыл бұрын
You see the way you feel anxious when you have an incoming project, think about work, or feel anxiety when facing anything that you are tasked to face in in the future, being present eliminates all that. You feel a certain peace and enjoy moments more. Like standing walking through the streets with headphones on, and enjoying the vibrance of people walking by, the music..its euphoria... But most important, you become at peace with your imperfections. There are times you mess up, feel angry, but you become self-aware and go back to being present without being harsh on yourself
@zain40193 жыл бұрын
As you become aware that you are conscious, and consciously see, hear, taste, touch, smell, be within your body, and consciously think when necessary, you deepen into the space of aware presence. If you do so for some time, you will notice that indeed, all there is to the world is awareness. Nothing else is real. There is only awareness. All is awareness, or God. We are one and the same - exactly the same being - all people, all the universe.

But isn't that the problem with casinos (or anywhere else where time appears to be nullified)? You stop "thinking"; you're always in the "present moment" - but then you run out of money. Even if you won all the time - would you want to live there forever?
@kiosuke814 жыл бұрын
Tolled is talking about being fully present and mindful, consciousness without thoughts, not mindless and mechanical, not conscious of what's happening (like when you're drunk, for example), and you lose your money without even realizing it. Please try to read The power of know to understand it mental and then start to practice being fully conscious without thoughts so you can experience it and REALLY understand it! :)
